Back to school!

August 26, the holiday season is almost over, people have started coming back to work, there goes my tranquility at the office! Traffic has gotten worse too... But it's probably nothing compared to next Monday ;) Anyway the press conference season will also start soon, so here is one photo I took at the occasion of the launch of new products. They rented a loft for the occasion and I thought the setting of the room would make a good photo - taken from above (I took it at the end of the conference, when they started clearing the room). It's not a black and white photo, although it may look like one...

  1. Arg, it looks like a classroom...But nice perspective!
I kind of miss it actually. One entire month left for University.

  2. Back to the daily grind, the rat race, the insanity. And then, of course, there's the grown-ups.

I love the patterns, with the single human figure. Regimentation, conformity, enormity. Bless you, Eric.

  3. That's what you call Guille-power! GF!

  4. I can imagine the workers, quietly seated, noting all the things that the speaker said... Even when you got a job you have to be attentive. Does it stop one day!? I thought that after school it was finished... LOL

Eric, you bring you camera at work? You're definitely camera addict.

  5. Thanks! I was here in the right time. I was just lucky. Hehe. :p

  6. I like the simplicity of the stark white chairs and the one black book. Did you plant that book there Eric??? :)

  7. Hey, Eric, you left your notebook on that chair!

Back to school can be a little sad, but I remember it differently. There was some excitement in the air when you started the new year. We got a brand new set of books, some with that nice new smell. Sometimes, new clothes. And there was the smell of the rain, and the smell of the dirt in the yard in front of our building after it had rained. As a kid, I really did like that period of time, when Paris comes back alive.

  8. Eric, I like the simplicity of these chairs. It reminds me of my teaching philosophy..."KEEP IT SIMPLE STU..DENTS!" [I know what you thought I was going to say ;-0]I can visualize myself sitting in one of these beauties at a faculty meeting as the minutes drone on and on. Then in true Walter Mitty fashion I drift away. My youthful little brain kicks in, and it turns to a wintery landscape. I suddenly visualize turning a few of these artistic wonders into sleds. Chop off the legs and wax the bottoms, and hey you're good to hit the snowy slopes. [Did I just say wax and bottoms? erph?] Then one of my colleague smacks me back to reality with a black notebook. KERPOCKETAH POCKETAH!

  9. I like the soft gray carpet, and how the missing left foot of the woman collecting chairs is actually at the top right behind another chair! How did you do that Eric?

GF Guille you're such a night owl! And Coltrane I love your Walter Mitty story of the sleds.

  10. I love the seemingly black and white attribute of this photo. For a moment I thought I left my moleskine on the chair?!

Guille, congratulations on your being GF :)

    Coltrane_lives, I'm impressed!

  11. PDP class is in session. And what will you teach us today, Prof. Eric?

  12. lovely visual display. I like how there is half a person setting up the chairs inside the frame.

  13. Love the angle, Eric. I always looked forward to school as well...many new books available to read!! May you all enjoy the beginning of a "new year"!

Coltrane~~ LOVE Walter Mitty. You got the noise just right! (But you forgot, 'Go, Pierce Amboy High'! That part always makes me laugh. Aw, shucks, now I have to watch that movie again!)

  14. Cool chairs!

At least this time you took the picture from above and not laying down on the floor :)

  15. Eric, the photo is definitly more interesting than it would have been at ground level.

    Coltrane, nice visuals!

  16. Nice perspective Eric. At first I thought this was going to be an ultra-modern church, until I read the headline.

Congrats on GF Guille. You must have been waiting behind your computer for this.

And Soosha, quit flirting with Coltrane! I remember when you used to have a crush on me! ;-)

  17. Ouais, Guille—you rock! (Comment on dit ca en Francais??)
Great shot, Eric—and I'm pretty sure that's my moleskine on the chair.
Coltrane -- thanks so much for the Walter Mitty riff!
(I have half a book in my head; working title: Mrs. Mitty. Go figure.)
BTW, call me a geek, but I loved la rentree a l'ecole.

  18. Cool photo. Love that there's a notebook, or perhaps a moleskine, on one of the chairs. Just need a nice fluid pen and you can take notes "graphically" when the meeting gets boring...

  19. Great composition of the shot. My kids are back to school...it is bittersweet seeing the baby off on his first day.

  20. I had a feeling when clicking on this that today's photo would be a Wow shot, and it is. My first thought was that Someone would be proud, but I couldn't remember who. The photo is reminiscent of the work of a famous photographer but the name's not coming to me. Can anyone help?

Anyway, nice work, Eric. You have an unfailing eye. You find things others don't see.

  21. Michael is right, it looks like a church too, with a Bbible left on a chair. Yes, I was waiting behind my computer, refreshing, refreshing, refreshing... ;)

Monica, are u back for real?!

Alexa, in young brat slang, 'you rock' is 'tu déchires'! LOL
An other translation probably exists but it's to early to think about, and I'm leaving to work...

    Have a nice day!

  22. Love Love Love this photo Eric. And the little black book is so effective. You must have gone to art college because the book is off center.

  23. I see a series - you have done several "chairs" photos.

  24. It's back to school for me too. :-(

My summer break is over and I didn't feel like I did anything fun or productive.

Oh well, there's always NEXT summer.

  25. Yes, me too, i think the book is the best bit. My guess is that you took the pic, then stopped, thought "No...wait a sec..." and rushed down again to plant it. You're so clever, Eric.

M et Mme Benaut have now left me and are in London at the moment, visiting another blogger. You can chart their tour at my blog, with links always to the next bit in their travels (their blog tour must go down in DP history as Eric is the catalyst who made all these friendships!) Soon they will be zooming over to you in Paris, Eric and Michael! You will love them, as i did.

  26. Michael, is it really considered flirting if I haven't got a chance in heck? I think you really mean leave the poor man alone!

  27. The party seems to have slowed a bit here. Come on PDPers, wake up!!! ;oP Look, I'm even doing my Cousin It impression for you!

  28. Visually intriguing, this room. Did you sit in one of the chairs? They look as if they are designed to look sharp, but would be very uncomfortable. What were the new products being introduced, by the way?

  29. Nice pattern of the ivory chairs and the soft gray carpet.

Wonderful blog. I'm here visiting by way of David's Digital Art. I want to visit Paris someday...and this is the next best thing! ;)

  30. Ah, Tomate's thoughts were mine as well, and Coletrane, I really enjoyed your comments!
Eric, when I first glanced this image I experienced a bit of an optical illusion: the notebook appeared to be a hole in the seat bottom, crating negative space.
We just visited my daughter's school, turning in a request for class changes, the school I work at begins in a week, and I start back to school in three weeks. Ah, autumn.
And, no Guille, it never stops. . .just ask Eric, one of the most hardworking among us! One is doomed to be attentive for the rest of life on the job, and triple attentive during parenting years. But, their is room for lots of creativity and friendship that can go with the accomplishments along the way, as Eric proves everyday.

  31. Cousin IT -- I think that woke everyone up. Very cute Soosha.

I flirt with Coltrane too. He's just too charming for me to resist. And then I also flirt with Michael, Eric, and etc. You remember him, right?

What u said was really nice. I guess that Eric and the PDPers will appreciate it. I do.

  33. etc? Sure I remember him!

Yeah, I think Michael's just jealous that I don't flirt with him anymore. ...much! I've never flirted with Eric much because I kinda consider him lynn's "territory!" But yes, the gentlemen that visit PDP are very charmant.

  34. Lynn hasn't been around much lately. I say Eric is fair game.

  35. Non, non, Michael. Soosha and I are good. That's the whole point. ;)

  36. Carrie, I'm sure you're very good, too!

    Good night!

  37. Interesting shot. I like that the one chair is rebelling by not sitting straight in the line, and that one chair has a book on it. They stand out.
