Metal!
It's August 1st, the heart of the summer! It's very very hot in Paris at the moment (currently 90 in my apartment!) and it's even worse in the Metro where there is no air conditioning. But that is not the reason why I'm showing you this rolling sidewalk that they installed at the Montparnasse metro station, but because today is a theme day and the theme is... metal!
As usual, there are many participants (183)in this theme day throughout the City daily Photo community and you should pay them a visit. Either one by one (see links below), or click here to view thumbnails for all participants.

Wow this reminds me of running through the metro to catch the last train to the suburbs in 1985! Such speed!
ReplyDeleteAnd Montparnasse is the metro station I used to get to my train. They didn't have these cool metal walkways then. Bummer it's so hot there. I'll send some SF fog your way to cool things off!
ReplyDeleteVery cool image - gives the sense of speedy sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteEric, how low can you go? You've been spending a lot of time hovering at ground level. I've been watching the temperature rise in Paris, a good time to be out of town. We're experiencing our first 90+ weather here in Chicago, but at least it's humid.
ReplyDeleteEric! Over the last 3 days you've given us the perfect motion trifecta.
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed and very proud to be a PDP fan!
90 degres, you mean...celcius?! ;)
ReplyDeleteI guess it's the rolling sidewalk which goes from line 12 or 4 to line 13, you know, the one which NEVER works! You were lucky. But obviously, contrary to Katie, you were not running.
Katie,GF!
Katie is today's queen for a day! Salutations to today's GF. : )
ReplyDeleteIts a crown that flies round the world -- isn't that cool! : ))
Great metal photo Eric -- sounds painfully hot in the metro. And, yes, this is also a very, very low shot on a moving object -- are you putting yourself in harm's way for us Eric, or do you have some kind of do-hicky that lets you see thru the lens as you put the camera down at your feet!!??
Great choice for theme day!!!!
ReplyDeletehere it is still 23h30, so you guys will have to wait... hehehe!!!
HAPPY THEME DAY!!!
You've been very experimental lately, Eric, to good effect. This shot gives the feeling of forward motion and even sideways motion. It looks cool, not hot.
ReplyDeleteYou're having a heat wave. Muggy, too, I'll bet.
It captured how hot the day is. I could feel the crowd, and heard the noise when they walked on this metallic side walk. Great picture for theme day!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that the woman in black is trying to lose weight or something. With that heavy coat in 90º weather she's carrying around her a portable sauna.
ReplyDeletePetrea I agree that all this metal makes the photo look cold rather than hot. And like Tall Gary, I think the people on the walkway are wearing a lot of clothing for such a hot day!
ReplyDeleteGuille are you tempted to take a dip in the canal since it’s so hot?
Carrie getting the GF was a total fluke! The new photo was there on my first visit - I didn't even refresh!
Motion seems to be the overall theme this week: Le Tour, the motorcycle, people walking on the Pont des Arts, and the metal sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteThe last time I was in Paris in August, it was so hot that people were swimming in the fountain at the Louvre and the airline tried to get volunteers to not fly in order to reduce the plane's weight.
Katie, congratulations on the GF! What will you add to the crown?
Hmmm... this picture is making me nervous. Laying down on the ground to take a picture is probably OK in most cases, like WHEN THE GROUND IS NOT MOVING but when you're dealing with a mechanical floor, I don't know... better be careful, Eric! We don't want an assident or something.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if we could bottle up that fog and send it out, we'd be richer than Bill Gates.
ReplyDeleteGreat sense of movement in your photo. Really like it. Don't comment much but do pop in every so often.
ReplyDeleteTomate we should get together for lunch and work on the SF Bottled Fog idea!
ReplyDeleteHey Lupine Lady! Welcome to the PDP comments section. I know you've been looking at photos but haven't commented before. I'm sure the group will welcome you, especially when they find out we're related! I think I'll add a few of your beautiful lupines to the GF crown before I pass it on.
Holy smokes! I just figured out (by enlarging the image) that a man is walking right over Eric's poor, vulnerable, prostrate frame in an apparent mad stampede forward! The PDP injured rib tally just keeps going up.
ReplyDeleteIt does portray a real sense of urgency. I have been enjoying your experimental shots. As a photographer
ReplyDeleteI'm always interested in seeing how others show the most mundane image in
an exciting way. This is white hot metal.
Great photo. The angle and the blurred effect make it a very original shot for theme day :)
ReplyDeleteLove Babooshka's comment.
ReplyDeleteVery cool photos lately, Eric! Thanks for sharing your new look with us!!
ReplyDeletePS. Hope cooler temps are on the way for you soon! (It's gorgeous here in Northern Michigan!)
Katie no problem. E-mail anytime. Short notice works for me too.
ReplyDeleteIt is hot here as well ... I like your photo and I'll be interested to see how many theme day photos have a similar perspective (close to the metal subject).
ReplyDeleteHot metal, hot weather, and hot day. Interesting photo.
ReplyDeleteI remember taking the metro in Paris. I thought it was interested that they had rubber wheels, which kept it quite quiet.
ReplyDeleteThe ones in Singapore has metal wheels.
Have a very good start to August!
Happy Theme Day Eric!
Great photo Eric, love the movement and the metal.
ReplyDeleteSuperb representation!
ReplyDeletekatie: I don't care—you won it fair & square! Are you adding anything besides lupines to the crown?
ReplyDeleteEric - OMG! I said yesterday that I love this angle, and may I just say it again?? This photo is really amazing when you blow it up. And I always love the B&W. Very original choice for the theme, too. What more can I say -- you're my digital hero. 8~)
I like the textures you have captured. I am also enjoying all the other daily photos metal pics too! Good choice Eric.
ReplyDeleteTres belle, Eric! I like the low angle, the perspective created by the lines on the floor, and the black and white tone. Happy Theme Day!
ReplyDeleteexcellent shot eric! I love it.
ReplyDeleteA rolling sidewalk! Trippy, eh? :-) Good shot in that trippy kinda way.
ReplyDeleteLovely sense of movement
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! I can feel the heat. We have it too. Ozone levels high, and reduced vitesse on the autoroutes of the Alpes-Maritimes.
ReplyDeletehi, eric...long time no see...hehehe
ReplyDeleteHeavy metal!
ReplyDeleteBeau thème du mois et belle photo.
ReplyDeleteHot metal - métal brûlant.
90 (F) in your apartment, ça a dû être l'enfer, je te plains!
Tapis roulant, amène-moi un ... ventilo. :)
Corinne, très poétique!
ReplyDeleteKatie, I'm in Provence where the temperature reached 37°(Celcius)yesterday, so I'm tempted by a dip in a lake. Yes, next week I'll swim in the Canal, but only if one pushes me in it! :)
There are so many great daily photo blogs I want to check them all out every single day...but unfortunatly I can't!! =( Thanks for listing them!
ReplyDeleteKatie GF, congrats! How fun that you'll be getting together with Tomate. When it happens, we want details, menus, photos.
ReplyDeleteEric, I like this moving metal very much. The B&W and contrasting lights and darks emphasize all the metal shininess. Is it true what US Elaine sees in the photo? Was someone stepping over you?
I love how dynamic these last three photos are and seeing your creative mind have fun imaging Paris.

Seattle Daily Photo
Great representation of metal. It must be getting hotter with all that metal.
ReplyDeleteHappy Theme Day!
This is a great photo. London's underground is even hotter. I'm sticking to the buses in this weather.
ReplyDeleteGreat interpretation of our monthly theme, Eric. I'm quite happy to be far from Paris and its metro and hope you'll take profit of the sea anywhere very soon...
ReplyDeleteWonderful interpretation of metal! It's going to be 93 here today. At 8:50 AM, it's already 78! Yuck.
ReplyDeleteHappy Theme Day!
Janet
Hi, Eric!
ReplyDeleteIt is hot and muggy here too. Lots of thunder, but no rain yet, it keeps missing us. This is a great shot! Another terrific angle, and I really like the way you have been capturing motion the past few days!
Bonjour,
ReplyDeleteIt may be warm but I think that I would love Paris at any time of year. Have only visited in the winter months. As it is 1 August, the Parisians are off to vacation. Good vacation to themas they leave their sweltering city.A good day to all!
90 degrees in your apartment? Does none of Paris have a/c? :)
ReplyDeleteLove the motion in this shot--great pic for today's theme.
Superb!
ReplyDeleteThis theme day metal post really moves me. Really.
ReplyDeleteAiiieee...Love it Eric!!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I turned the page of my PDP calendar to find one of my favorite PDP photos today!! The photo of the long table on the Impasse with all the glasses and cutlery! I really love that photo and will enjoy it all month..in my kitchen...LOL!!
Metro-metal rules! As do you my friend! Sizzlingly dazzacle! Another great moving picture suspended in time from the mastercamerasmith. Have a cool weekend! :-)
ReplyDeleteBTW, Guille -- yesterday, I was IMPRESSED with your perfect use of the word 'hindsight'! (you're too cute)
ReplyDeleteGuille,
ReplyDeleteAre you getting fanned at all by the mistral?
Coltrane: I just finished laughing at you bad pun from yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI feel the spin from this photo! but it is at a place I´ll pass on, I´ll do ANYTHING not to "correspond" both at Montparnasse and Chatelet, especially in the heat.
Since Europe, New York and PHX are hot right now, I ah, forgot about other destinations and am not well dressed at this moment in Buenos Aires....burrrrrrrr.
Can´t wait to read your comment in the paper, Jeff!
Thanks for the fog Katie. It worked, now it's 72!
ReplyDeleteDavid. "but at least it's humid." You prefer it when it's hot and humid?? Really?
Suzy. "I'm so impressed and very proud to be a PDP fan!" you should be! LOL
Guille, 90 C?! I'd be dead LOL. Let's not say it NEVER works, but rarely...
Carrie "are you putting yourself in harm's way for us Eric" No way. I just kneel down and press the trigger. Simple.
Tall Gary. (...) ;)
Tomate "better be careful, Eric! We don't want an assident or something." Don't worry T. I won't have an 'assident'!
Ann. "Don't comment much but do pop in every so often." You should do this more often ;)
Well then it Katie says so Lupine lady: "a warm welcome!"
USElaine. LOL. I survived!
Thank you Babooshka. Coming from a photographer, I appreciate your comments even more ;)
OK Christie, can you beam me up to Michigan (I'll go back to Paris when it's winter though ;)))
Keropk. Only a few lines have rubber wheels (2 I think) because they run outside too in some parts and they want them to be less noisy... The other lines it's all metal.
Alexa. "you're my digital hero. 8~)" First time I've been called that way!
Bunyamin "hi, eric...long time no see...hehehe" True. If it weren't for theme days...
Merci Corinne ;) L'enfer ? Non, quand même pas ;)
Guille 37 C in the south is not the same as 32 in Paris ;)
Kim. "Is it true what US Elaine sees in the photo? Was someone stepping over you?" No not really. People were just wondering why on earth would a guy take a photo so low in there, instead of rushing to work just like anybody else!
Cate. "Does none of Paris have a/c? :)" Few (I have a small one for the bedroom) but it's not very common (it's forbidden to put them on the building facades, so it's not easy to install them.
Tonton. "By the way, I turned the page of my PDP calendar to find one of my favorite PDP photos today!" When was it taken? I don't remember glasses nor cutlery??
brilliant, i see everything is melting away.
ReplyDeletehappy august theme day Eric!!
PHX-CDG...if anyone would have gotten that little pun, I knew it would be you. You know what they say about great minds. ;-) Safe travels wherever you may be.
ReplyDeleteTall Gary, not enough mistral for my taste (it's said that the mistral makes people crazy...), it could cool the atmosphere, it would be good...
ReplyDeleteEric, tout à fait d'accord, 37 degrés à Carpentras c'est chaud, mais 32 degrés à Paris, c'est invivable!!
You have an a/c in your bedroom?! Common! ;)
Alexa... :S I often use the word "hindsight" in French ("recul") and learnt the English one not a long time ago...that's why I used it.
Guille - He needs the A/C most in the room that gets the hottest... But maybe that's what you mean.
ReplyDeleteI remember a gray suit in particular that turns up the heat knob I'm sure.
Uselaine, I wouldn't have dared! LOOOL
ReplyDeleteI like both the motion and creative low angle very much.
ReplyDeleteEric,
ReplyDeleteI love these motion shots.
I miss Paris!
Rodney
