What really unites Europe!
Do you want to know when Europeans feel the most united? When they hear the European anthem? When they pay with a Euro bill? When they hear that the European parliament passed a new law?! All wrong! It's when they play the Euromillion, a European lottery with much higher stakes than local ones! Tonight, each of the inhabitants of 9 European countries can take part in it (well the ones who bought a ticket!) expecting to win no less than... 114 million Euros. And, yes, since you're asking, I'm one of them. I'm not too confident though... there is only 1 chance in 76 million!! If I do win, I promise to keep doing Paris Daily Photo...just from a nicer computer...

And the winning EUROMILLIONS results for draw number 239 for Friday 05 September 2008 were:
ReplyDelete07, 12, 16, 17, 39, - Lucky Stars 03, 08
If you don't believe me, you can look here!
Two winners of € 59,674,853.00 Did you win Eric? Did you win?
(I only ask for a little house in the south of France with a view over the beach. Is that too much?)
That will be a heckuva computer, Eric! Good luck - we expect you to charter that plane from SFO for us...
ReplyDeleteShhhh....you don't have to tell me here. Just send me an email, or better yet, a check.
ReplyDeleteOh! I'm so glad to hear if you win you will keep PDP going. What would we do with out our shot of Paris each day???
ReplyDeleteWhat would be an interesting photo, would be Eric rolling in all those millions of Euros...
ReplyDeleteROFL! Michael, you are toooooo funny! I ask for nothing, Eric, except that you also upgrade your camera. Not that your current camera isn't good or anything, but a multi-millionare photographer deserves the most sophisticated top-of-the-line camera!!!
ReplyDelete...naked...
ReplyDelete60 million € each for the two winners.... woaaa, that's some serious lottery.
ReplyDeleteDo we know from which countries are the lucky winners this time ? I am looking for some stats stats to see the % of total amount bet per country, and the % of distribution by country....
I remebering hearing that so far past winners were mostly located in south of Europe...
...or in that gray suit. You know the one...
ReplyDeleteuselaine: How about your first choice or maybe am Olympic Speedo Swimsuit...
ReplyDeleteCould that chartered plane stop in NY to pick me up, I wonder? A French psychic (a real one; a nice bourgeois lady who didn't charge for her "readings) once told me that I could well win the lottery. She probably meant the French lottery, but I think I'll go buy a Mega Millions ticket anyway. I'd be curious to know where the 2 winners are from.
ReplyDeleteMichael: Congratulations...GF
ReplyDeleteGramma Ann - Methinks you haven't seen the suit...?
ReplyDeleteAlexa - You're in, natch.
uselaine, your comments are proof that I should not read these comments from the bottom up!
ReplyDeleteEric I wish you all the luck in the world, or at least in Europe.
As for me, I would buy the Eiffel Tower and ban Tom Cruise from ever renting it for himself again. My Eiffel Tower would be shared with everyone, 100% of the time, for a much lower fee. And I might paint it purple. Brown is so 1889.
Eric, will you be my sugar daddy??
ReplyDeleteROFL!!! Oh dear, Eric, you'd be lucky in more than one way if you did win that lottery! I assume that chartered plane will stop here in STL as well. I can take a leave of absence from school and make up some excuse like my auntie who I'm very very close to has suddenly been stricken with some fatal and rare disease-anything to party in Paris with the "it" crowd (that'd be you guys)!!!
ReplyDeleteAll right, but that's it! Any further milk runs will be served by our partner lines to the collection points. ;^)
ReplyDeleteOkay Eric. Looks like we're ready.
uselaine: You're right, I don't think I've seen Eric in the little gray suit. But he looked pretty sharp in the PDP picnic picture on May 8, 2008, in his jeans and cute blue shirt...
ReplyDeleteI have my bags ready and am waiting at the private charters terminal at SFO - Eric, will you be in that gray suit or a Speedo? (I don't recommend the Speedo. It gets chilly in San Fran.)
ReplyDeleteCan we assume Michael will have the champagne chilled and ready to pour upon our arrival at CDG?
Oooh! Good call, Suzy! Eric needs to be on the plane with us! Yhuuussssss!!!
ReplyDeleteG Ann - Your frame of mind is perfect. 8^)
...standing by for your signal, Eric...
ReplyDelete1 in 76 million! Let's look on the positive side: Odds of your house being hit by a meteor - 182,138,880,000,000 to 1.
ReplyDeleteThe lotto odds look pretty good next to the meteor thing.
How much is left after taxes? ;)
ReplyDeleteEric
ReplyDeleteI just got home from the hospital where I have been recovering from cancer surgery on August 14th. The moment I was able, I looked at PDP. Scrolling thru 3 weeks of shots made me realize for the very first time the enormous amount of work it is to keep this daily photo concept going. Here I was lollygagging around in a hospital bed while you find, take, and post a new and interesting photo every single day. Congratulations once again on this really monumental effort. We all do appreciate your very hard work.
Gimme Gimme Gimme....it's a rich man's world.
ReplyDeleteOh forgive me, I thought you wanted to know when the Europeans felt most united....on EUROVISION! ( Abba really won with Waterloo way back then.)
Where do you buy one of those lottery tkts?
Elaine, you think like I do and I'm not sure that's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteVicky Hugo, glad you're back. I had no idea you were ill and hope you're recovery's going well.
Eric, your jet doesn't have to stop in LA; I imagine the soCal contingent could manage a carpool up to SFO to meet you all there. Right Pont Girl, Carrie, Cali, Luggi? And where's our dear Tall Gary, I wonder?
In case Eric didn't actually win Euromillion, I'll win the lottery this weekend (note to self: buy ticket) and everyone can come visit me at my new French Chateau! Here's where I shop for French real estate when I'm feeling a lottery win coming on:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.real-estate-in-france.com/
Currently I'm thinking about OR540LI, the Dordogne Chateau. Plenty of room for everyone!!
May I come too? Chicago O'Hare is a pretty big airport, and very centrally located...
ReplyDeleteDavid, you crack me up with the meteor thing!
Eric, I am sure you will look wonderful in whatever you are wearing...and if San Fran is chilly, I am sure you will tie a sweater around your neck...
Northern Michigan is a great place for a summer or winter home to visit, and we have scads of lovely homes for discerning buyers available. If the winning ticket is right there, I would love to be a tour guide!!
ReplyDeleteHope everyone has a great weekend!!
Petrea: okay, I'll drive! Even if we have to "Flintstone" it.
ReplyDeleteKatie: I am rooting for you (or me)to win.
Vicky: welcome "home." You have been missed.
Eric: you are already a winner to us.
Vicky thoughts and prayers and positive energy are sent your way for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDelete& You are smart to come right back to PDP, it is a very good place to keep ones spirits high!
Eric, I love this photo with the reddish background and fauna(?) next to the ticket, & it's such a classy looking ticket as well.
I am not surprised to read you would still do PDP if you won. I can tell it is a labor of love for you.
This photo looks like Christmas. Lottery tickets for Christmas presents is a good idea -- it's different. I won the lottery in NYC once -- for US$23.
ReplyDeletelois -- my family comes to my house on Christmas, and everyone gets a lottery ticket under their dinner plate—I'm the only one who's ever won anything, though, which seems only fair since I buy the tix.
ReplyDeletevicky -- you did the right thing coming straight from the hospital to PDP. Lots & lots of good thoughts headed your way!
Elaine, you are making me feel soooo much better about my terribly obnoxious (and completely pointless) flirting with Coltrane!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Vicky! Glad you stopped here first. We're all rooting for you!
ReplyDeletePHX-CDG asked, "Where do you buy one of those lottery tickets?"
In France, one can buy tickets at the local Tabac. From elsewhere in Europe I don't know the local customary outlets, but you can buy them online:
Here in Euros
Here in USD
Eric, you've done it again. That's a major lotto pot!
ReplyDeleteWow! Here I'm just getting back from a gig and you all are taking a trip to the south of France. I miss out on all the good stuff.
Soosha...are you flirting with me again? ;-) I'm winking at your eye right now. BTW...I'm working at importing my new profile photo that you doctored. For those who don't know it, my new photo has a nose-ring and a few brow piercings. I'm down wid it though! ;-)
David...that 182,138,880,000,000 made me think of our nation's debt. Ouch!
Suzy...you crack me up. "Brown is so 1889." [I wish I would have said that] I hadn't heard about Tommy boy renting the ET. How dare he!
Vicky Hugo...you get well girl! Hard to know what to say about cancer other than it SUCKS! Keep the faith. You're in my thoughts.
Miguel...CONGRATS! It's about time a guy wore the crown. GEEZ!!!
My plane is taking me to dreamland. Later all! Have a good today!
Almost every day I get an email informing me that I've won the big lottery. How can that happen when I haven't paid to play? ;)
ReplyDeleteLee in California
Soosha, I have obnoxious nailed down pat. Observe and learn.
ReplyDelete...standing by...
Thanks Coltrane! I'm sporting the GF crown manly-like. No tiaras for us guys. You wouldn't believe what the girls have been decorating it with. Paintings from Lois, Suzy's Eiffel Tower charms hanging all over it, Guille's English-French dictionary swinging by a string, you get the idea...
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking plain and simple with a few jazz notes and bien sur, photos from PDP.
Little request: Mike if Eric gives you some money to buy a house in the south (trust me you will need more than "some money"!), don t forget me and remember that I just need a new computer... ;)
ReplyDeleteEric you are priceless, with or without this money!
I think having a blog where thousands look to you for inspiration from Paris IS like winning the lottery. Congratulations, Eric! You are a winner!
ReplyDeleteguille: "Happy Holidays"
ReplyDeleteOoooooh I didn't get a ticket! I never win...:( If you won, Eric, can I have a new camera please? he he...
ReplyDeleteThe odds of winning the UK Lotto are around 14 million to one. Why do we waste a pound each week? Hope, I guess. Dreams.
Hope springs eternal, dear lynn. I personally never play the lotto because I can't even win a dollar on a simple scratch off, but every time my BFF gets a tickets she wins at least $20. Which begs the question: why in the world isn't she buying Powerball tickets every week?!?
ReplyDeleteContrane...No, of course I'm not! And you look very fly with the piercings. I'm thinking I should have added a tribal tattoo around your brow and temple though. Then you'd be thuggin it fo-sho!
Michael, You decorate!!? You look like a Prof. with the book flying behind you from your crown; paintings, hmmm, a Royal Art Prof.; Eiffel Towers....; I know, a Royal Art Prof. from France. tada!
ReplyDeleteMichael, here you go!
ReplyDeleteVicky Hugo, welcome back and a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteI had a good laugh reading your comments (well except for the one of Vicky Hugo of course).
ReplyDeleteFYI, I won... 8,76 €! I don't care because I'll keep in mind Guille's comment:
"Eric you are priceless, with or without this money!"
LOL!
Hahaha...wow that is a lot of money. Ours started at S$600,000 only and could climb up to more than S$10 million. The highest I saw was $12 million but was won by a few people. Wish you luck in your lottery. :)
ReplyDeleteI like that :) I think you got it right, that might be about the only thing that makes Europeans united: the lottery! :)
ReplyDeleteI won the handsome sum of £7.20 in the Euromillions Draw!
ReplyDeleteI'm shortly going to pop out of the office and buy a coffee with part of it!
