Sunrise over Paris

We're experiencing a sort of Indian summer in Paris at the moment (sort of, because we have no actual Indian summers in France!) and it's quite nice. Here is the photo I took this morning on my way to work. I took it from the Pont des Arts, where I waited for someone to walk "into the sun" (which was hard, because people nicely kept waiting for me to take a picture before actually walking pass the objective!). When I see this, I understand why so many people are in love with Paris ;)

  11. It was kind of the architects to design such a transparent rail. Tres bon.

  14. It's funny that you should explain; I was wondering how long it took you and how many missed people there were in that position! I, this evening, too was held up by people being polite and waiting whilst I took the photo, whilst all I wanted was them!

This is stunning, Eric. Romantic, subtle...sous la lumiere pale... could you say? It's... sigh-worthy.

  15. Why bequeath your crown, Michael? It becomes you.

Katie, so what have you been up to today in beautiful Paris?

  18. Lovely shot Eric...and how nice for everyone to wait out of range for you to take the photo! hahaha!
I envy you your Indian Summer. We have moved straight from summer into winter! bah!

  19. Lynn I went up in a helium balloon! It was tethered to the ground so no chance of drifting away. It went up pretty high, and I had a great view of Paris. Hope you're having good weather too!

  26. So that's an Indian Summer? I was flabbergasted by the weather this afternoon because it was freezing in the morning...
This is a nice picture, a beautiful morning of autumn...it was pretty early, right?

"Oh darn, I didn't mean to be first." I don't know why Michael, but I don't trust you!

    Katie, une montgolfière? Où ça?!

Bon weekend à tous, et bon courage Eric!

  27. Stunning sunrise Eric. I would like to think I would get up that early when in Paris next month, but doubt. Will have to catch a sunset I think. Lovely railing on this bridge. I haven't see this one. One more thing of the never ending list!

  35. We're experiencing the same type of weather here in Avignon - isn't it delightful?

  36. Montgolfiere! I remember that word now. Thanks Guille. By the way, Guille I've been putting some yummy recipes for sweets on my blog. Thought you might like to know. Baked any Guille biscuits lately?

Sometimes I'd like to see some of Eric's 'rejects' for these shots, perhaps on 'the making of' - to see how he makes the final choice.

  37. Oh! such a marvelous photo, thanks, Eric!

I love le pont des Arts
it's just perfect for sunrise AND sunset too, wonderful place, just turn to the other side

uselaine, the bridge was built on purpose for Napoleon's crowning ceremony as an emperor in 1804
the X shape in a rectangle is typical of that period

  38. BTW, Eric, est ce que je dois quelque chose, en plus de toute ma considération et de mes remerciements, pour le plaisir de voir le lever du soleil à Paris sur mon ordinateur ?

  40. Michael, do keep the crown. You earned it fair and square. And everyone else is right, it looks great on you!

Much like tomate, I am so greatful to have such a serene shot to end my stressful week and start what I hope will be a relaxing weeked.

The more I stare at the enlarged shot the more at peace I feel. The sunlight sparkling off the water, the enlongated shadows on the bridge, Paris practically silhouetted in the background, the soft colors of sunrise, the contrails from the airplanes, the whispy clouds... *sigh* Am I in Paris yet?

  41. Guille, Lynn, a Montgolfière is a hot air balloon. Katie's balloon, apparently, is a helium balloon, which is different!

Katie, I guess this was the big "Air de Paris" balloon (already mentionned by Eric some time ago) which is based in the Parc André Citroen? The view from up there must be stunning, particularly with today's weather!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Michael, don't be shy ;-)
    You deserve this crown!

    ReplyDelete
  43. amazing shot. so well taken. you've inspired me to have a go at this myself. i know what you mean about people always waiting for you to finish taking the shot, though (either that or they wave enthusiastically as they pass!).

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yes Thib I thought a hot air balloon because Guille said montgolfiere - so what is a helium balloon then. I hope we can look forward to pics on your blog, Katie?

  45. This photo has been added to my favorites -- it's a keeper! It is our Indian Summer here in San Francisco. We are having perfect weather. It's dark in the morning when I leave home for the office too as the sun is just coming up. I watch the sun rise while on the train. The sun comes up over the East Bay and turns the sky the most beautiful shades of pink, orange, yellow and sometimes purple on a beautiful blue background. It is stunning.

Lynn, "I, this evening, too was held up by people being polite and waiting whilst I took the photo, whilst all I wanted was them! This is stunning, Eric. Romantic, subtle...sous la lumiere pale... could you say? It's... sigh-worthy." I love the way you write.

David, "one of my favorite places in all of Paris" Dito, one of mine too.

Thib, Merci for the info on balloons. I didn't know there were different kinds.
