I know at the moment, having a party at la Bourse (the stock market) is a little odd, but this building is no longer used to trade stocks (since 1986), but to host company parties or conferences. It's a beautiful building often called Le Palais Brongniart, after the name of its architect: Alexandre Brongniart who built it in 1813. It's generally not lit like this, only when they have private parties, like yesterday, when I took this photo.

Are they actually happy about something at the stock exchange? Oh, yeah, I did hear the numbers were up a bit today. I like it all lit up like this.
ReplyDeleteDid you take a photo inside this building once, or was that in the one where they actually trade the stocks?
ReplyDeleteDidn't I read somewhere that this building was originally somebody's HOME?
ReplyDeleteAnother of those marvelous, "Here I am, really in Paris," photos, just strolling behind the couple on their way into the exclusive party. The touches of purple interior light give it a bit of an other-worldly atmosphere, but those upstairs, workaday fluorescent lights are a bit of a wet blanket on any kind of festive mood.
ReplyDeleteHmm. It's only 7:40. Maybe I'll take a stroll over to the au Pied de Cochon for a bit of a nosh.
Alexa, GF again! Take care, you're close to be addicted ;-)
ReplyDeleteEric, were you invited to this party? Can we expect pictures of the inside?
Beautiful building. It almost looks like a movie set with the perfect street lamp and the soft lights of the building against the night sky. And I like the couple heading toward the party (especially the woman's heels).
ReplyDeleteI used to work at the Federal Reserve Bank building in San Francisco, which looks a lot like la Bourse (the columns look very similar). And now I belong to a gym in SF that's the former Pacific Stock Exchange building (which also has big columns like this). The gym kept a lot of the interior features and to get to the locker rooms you have to go through the vault doors in the basement. Like Alexa and Thib I'd love to see photos inside la Bourse.
yes....some photos from the inside would e lovely - especially if there was a "sweets" table.
ReplyDeleteAlexa GF! Well done again.
ReplyDeleteEric you are the busiest party animal I know. Apart from Guille.
Very glamorous wash of lights outside. Lovely against the pitch black sky, Eric!
ReplyDeleteTall Gary, Short Shelley is right there with you {standing on an upturned milk crate} about those tube fluoros inside. Maybe they discreetly shuffle any drunken disorderlies up there so the mood kill dampens them down.
Katie, if I had a gym that posh nearby, I'd be tempted to join! {OK, only vaguely tempted - but tempted, nonetheless.}
The night lighting and the color of the building behind the neoclassical columns makes a beautiful effect. Much more striking than if the building lacked color, the way most buildings with columns like these would.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I am sorry I missed commenting on your post several days ago about the classical music concerts at a church. When in Paris, we love to attend classical concerts at St. Chapelle. It is a magical setting. And there are no lines of tourists waiting to get in after normal visiting hours!
So orangey and pretty. Did you get to go to the party?
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm glad that the stockbrokers aren't partying because there is nothing to party about lately.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, where is the top of the building? ;)
Isn't the Banque De France nearby?
Our San Francisco stock exchange is now a gym. In other words, this building continues to see people sweating but in a healthier way.
ReplyDeleteOh, damn, I got comment #13!
ReplyDeleteNot only that Tomate, look what just walked in front of you here.
ReplyDeleteShort Shell Sherree: If you can manage to strap one of those milk crates on each foot, we could go dancing!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteTall Gary, you bring the milk crates, I'll bring the straps!
ReplyDeleteWeren't you going to wear a strapless gown, mon Sherree? Perhaps we could still see eye to eye on this matter if I were to wear these.
ReplyDeleteI love it when you show me something beautiful and teach me something about Paris at the same time.
ReplyDeleteHow could I refuse such gallantry, Tall Gary ... Strapless it is, bien sur!
ReplyDeleteTall Gary's beautiful words have described it all.
ReplyDeleteLovely composition. Softened and sexy with the woman's legs.
Love it.
Oh, man. I'm blushing. Bisous.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful night shot. As ususal the running commentary is a interesting as the image.
ReplyDeleteSo you have snow in Paris now too? That's great! So we can expect...ok no that's too much pressure. Careful as you slip around Eric.. :)
ReplyDelete{A little blush is very becoming, Tall Gary ...}
ReplyDeleteOoh la la Bourse! Did you get inside for the partay? ;-)
ReplyDeleteHey Tall Gman and Shell...too funny!
he he partay always makes me smile, Coltrane..
ReplyDeleteShell: If the blush is becoming, one wonders what self-inflicted, secondary lipstick stains might do. That is, if I can get my hiding and shy face out from behind my hands.

ReplyDeleteThe Bourse(1865) in Philadelphia was America's first Stock Exchange. The building is now used as a mall. It is just steps from The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and the President's House where George Washington lived with his wife and nine enslaved Africans. Now our president lives in the White House which was built by enslaved Africans.
Just dropping a little American History during Black History Month.
Very pretty photo, I love that they are using buildings in new ways that they were not originally intended for. Love the streetlight as well!
ReplyDelete{Oh dear, Tall Gary ... blotting after application usually does the trick ...}
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a Cindrella ball set up!
ReplyDeletePS: I was waiting to see a chariot draw up in front!
