Giant artichokes at Invalides

A-ma-zing. As I was coming back from the 15th arrondissement yesterday, I passed by Les Invalides and saw this giant artichokes sculpture (by Patrick Laroche who claims to be fascinated by nature) in the middle of the pavement! Really cool ;-) Turns out it's part of a contemporary art trail organized by the art gallerie 208 and a local association. So it's not the only piece of art you can come across in the 7th arrondissement at the moment ;-) Here is the only online information I could find about this (in French).

  1. Wow, what a great sculpture! I love this kind of art in public space! Do you know by any chance how long the sculptures will be in the streets?

  2. Funny how when something is blown up to monumental size, it gains a more majestic look.

I love that the exhibit is spread across the arrondissement.

  4. One of the (many) things I love about Paris: art everywhere! And this piece looks great against that gorgeous sky.

  5. Morning Eric! Love the scenery, do you know what are the buildings in the background?

  6. I love this find! I did not know Patrick Laroche before and I was happy to discover his work, thanks to your link to his website. The vegetables exhibit is a really funny idea. Personally, I LOVE artichokes. Etre 'un coeur d'artichaut' is also a funny French expression. That means that you can fall easily in love with people! I think I used to be one, myself, younger! But no longer now... well sort of ;-)!

  7. Artichokes are funny. They are also tasty! But these are just plain cool. I love the use of color in this piece, the blue and the pink, such fun. :)

  8. This is by far the most interesting sculpture I have seen. Who would have thought to create an artichoke as a sculpture?

    I love this!
