From the top of the Arch of Triumph
And now... the real one! I took this photo from the top of the Arch of Triumph (Arc de Triomphe) up top the Champs Elysées avenue. It was the first time I went to the top since my parents took me when I was 5 or 6 years old! Pretty impressive I must say. I will show you more photos in future posts. PS: in reference to Richard's comment on yesterday's photo, photographing the Eiffel Tower is not "forbidden" by daylight. At night, the lighting is copyrighted, that is why for commercial use - and only for commercial use - it is not permitted to publish a photo of the Tower at night.

I had a nice asthma attack at the top of the arc. Those stairs are a killer!
ReplyDeleteWas not aware of the copyright ban on night photos of the Eiffel tower.
ReplyDeleteoh la la! Paris, Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysee, Eiffel Tower all next week!
ReplyDeleteMerci Eric, you have made the countdown that much more exciting!
cool! I really enjoy the views from top of Arch of Triumph!
ReplyDeleteAnd yesterday's photo is awesome too. i really enjoy your photos :)
I didn't know about the copyright of Eiffel Tower... is that fair?
Interesting view. I think I recognize that upright structure in the back, but I'm not sure ;)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I had no idea you couldn't photograph or publish a photograph of the Eiffel Tower at night. Ooops. Guess it' a good thing my camera ran out of battery when it did, then. Pheww.
Great shot! Love it! Eric, where can I find the names of the quartiers of Paris. It is part of a homework assignment for my French class.
ReplyDeleteJohnny: the first google search I did based on "quartiers de Paris" gave me this
ReplyDeletehttp://www.pariserve.tm.fr/quartier/decouv.htm
It's a good satring point.
Otherwise, you can always check "wiki" in English, they have a lot of stuff. See

Good luck. (Tomate Farcie on the run)
Ahem.. I meant "starting point"
ReplyDeleteGrrrr.
Ah Eric, HOW do you do it??!! Seems you're always reading our thoughts!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to do exactly that when I return, it's on my list too!!! Seriously! Since last time I went up the Tour Eiffel, I figure this time I try Arc de Triomphe.
I had heard before that the view is fantastic.
It costs 8 euros to go up there, right? And I have the same question as Nathalie, are there escaliers ou des ascenseurs?
Eric, all your photos are so beautiful. I have a question about photos of the Eifel Tower, I have a photo at night and I'd like to post it the next Theme Day, can I do?
ReplyDeletePost anything you want and let 'em try to catch you!
ReplyDeleteThe clock is ticking, tic, toc, tic, toc, je vais a Europe...
Oh, I love it up there!!! Nathalie & Monica, you have the choice of elevator or stairs. The elevator is small and there is usually a line. I consider a badge of honor to have taken the stairs :-) It is a spiral staircase, and truly not too bad of a climb.
ReplyDeleteI also didn't know about the night photography at La Tour Eiffel. I was hoping to see a picture taken at the top of the hour when it twinkles like crazy - all of mine came out blurry.
Stunning view from up there Eric. I didn't realise that the public could go up there. It's something I would definitely like to try too. I hope that they have elevators but I suspect that there are only stairs. I might need to take an overnight sleeping bag with me to make the trip.
ReplyDeleteAAHHH !!! Absolutely great. You know, since centuries I go to say that tourists in Paris love to go up at the top of Eiffel Tower. Well it's nice but the city from the tower is grey, down there because the historical Paris is without any skyscraper so there is no reason to go so high.
ReplyDeleteInstead of the roof of Arc de Triomphe let you see the Paris in its *exact* proportions and perspective. Sacrè Couer, Champs Elysée, la Defense... Oh it's so so so wonderful there. Unfortunately being also (the Arc) monuments to the Unknown Warrior, there are often commemorations and they close stairs (and lift) to go on the roof.
Thank you so much Eric !!!!
Not much time to express how much i love this but FAB !!
ReplyDeleteThe stairs are a killer but the view is very much worth it! Great photo Eric.
ReplyDeleteBe still my beating heart. Mere words are not adequate to express my delight of this photo, Eric! C'est manifique! Wow
ReplyDeleteHey, I know this place!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in Paris, I took a number of photos from the top of the Arch, and those pictures form a circular panorama. I think, this is the best point to start the acquaintance with the city :)
Eric, re French Presidential Elections, did you see the link to the Canal Plus webite on Sydney Daily Snap today?
ReplyDelete"Répondez à dix questions et créez le candidat qui vous ressemble" ?
I tried it Nathalie but all I had was a black screen
ReplyDeleteTomate, Thanks for the tip. Much appreciate your help.
ReplyDeleteThe stairs are a killer, but worth the effort. I asked about the elevator for a handicapped friend - the lady in the ticket cage said "non!" I don't know if it was busted or what, but she wasn't letting anyone on, handicapped or not. Little did I know I needed it myself to avoid the asthma attack.
ReplyDeleteApart from the wonderful pictorial displays at the top, there are two other good things up there - a W.C. and a gift shop! Any place with a gift shop is all right by me.
This photo gives a good perspective of the size of the Eiffel Tower compared to the surrounding buildings.
ReplyDeleteI visited Paris many times but never really loved it until one evening when I went up the steps of the Arch of Triumph and saw Paris at night.
ReplyDeleteI saw it as if it was the first time and that night I fell in love with Paris.
