"Sortie" (Way out). "Poussez" (Push)... are two words you'll see on most French doors in public places. This door actually belongs to Saint Severin Church where I already took
this picture. I kinda liked it, so here it is. Today is Friday and tonight France is playing another world cup rugby match (against Ireland). Please cross your fingers!
I like that shot a lot!
ReplyDeleteNot to mention, sometimes you're real glad to see this sign ;)
Or one can also see the sign "Sortie /Tirez" when visiting Paris!
ReplyDelete"Off into the wild blue yonder car," orders the air force cat. Or: "Sortie," Puss say(s). "
ReplyDeleteI like the textures, perspective, colors, focus, atmosphere, pearlescent light emanating from the bright overcast sky, and contrasts in the photo. Not to mention the shape of the gouge above the top left screw.
Allez, je pousse la porte et j'allume un cierge pour le match! Bonne chance, les bleus!
ReplyDeleteOkay,My fingers are crossed, Come on Ireland
ReplyDeleteWow, even the door to this church is gorgeous! Good luck to France tonight! Are they going to light up La Tour Eiffel again like they did last time??? Loved it!
ReplyDeleteA nice old door and an interesting way of learning a foreign language.
ReplyDelete"Sortie", voire "par ici la sortie", j'ai un peu peur que tu portes la poisse à nos p'tits gars !!!
ReplyDelete"Way out"… are you sure this is the best choice of a picture to wish good luck to our team ?
;o(
Ooops GG, you're right, I did not think of that! LOL
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice photo. I remember from my school French, now very rusty!
ReplyDeleteIn the U.S. we also have a couple of signs on our doors. If it says, PUSH, we push. If it says PULL, we push harder. Oh yeah, you've done it too. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend everyone. Paraphrasing here, Something wonderful this way comes. FALL!!!
and maybe even a WIN for les francais, eh? Bonne chance la France!
Peut-être les Irlandais sont trop irlandais. Peut-être c'est l'heure de gagner ?
ReplyDeleteLOL, Loraine!
ReplyDeleteOn my very first trip to Paris as a teen, I saw that "Sortie" word all over the Metro. I just figured it was a very popular city in France. Is there no end to stupid American stories?
Sortie... Poussez. I love it. I want to name something that. ,-)

This photo illustrates my feelings on a Friday at work: I just want to push my way out of here for the weekend! It's like leaving a dark, spooky place and escaping into the fresh air.
ReplyDeleteTres belle, la photo.
ReplyDeleteI have the best sortie story :) My fiance and I were in Paris in early January. I was very sick with a cold and in bed all day. He went to the Louvre since I had already been and didn't mind missing it on this trip.
ReplyDeleteHe phoned to check in on me during the day and I asked what exhibit he was looking at. His response was, I'm not quite sure, I'm looking for this Sortie exhibit.
I hadn't laughed so hard in a very long time. That's by far my favorite story from the trip.
Bonne chance tonight!!
I must say I really like this photo even more after blowing it up[kabooom!]LOL...no, really..one feels the heaviness of the wood in the door and the old dark wood opening to the light of the street is really interesting. It definitely feels as if one is exiting a church or an official building.
ReplyDeleteThe "sortie exhibit" story from katie above is absolutely hysterical! I will remember that one...merci katie!
The dollar sinks lower and Paris seems further away...boo hoo! I must go buy a lottery ticket. ;-)
Katie,
ReplyDeleteYour story is too funny! I'm in accord with Jeff...end of the work week and I just want to "sortie" my way out of here. Good weekend to all!...yeah, even the French rugby team, too! BTW...GO CUBS. Ahem!
Katie: After all these years, I have finally been validated! Thank you for THE BEST sortie story.
ReplyDeletelove the pic!
ReplyDeleteGlad you all enjoyed, it makes me laugh every time I think about my goofball looking for the Sortie exhibit!
