Praying

I am not a religious person but I love the feeling of peace that you experience when you enter a religious place. That's exactly what I felt a couple of days ago when I walked in the Saint Severin church and took this photo. They made this special room on the side of the church for the people to pray in peace. It works and... it makes a nice set for a photo too ;) I wish you a peaceful day.

  2. I agree with ham...astonishing. Reminds me of a painting...from the darkness to light. BTW...I think you are religious to your PDP bloggers and we appreciate it.

  3. I like the (is it bronze?) sculpture of Christ - it is different, including the way it is suspended.

I agree with you, Eric, about the feeling of peace one gets upon entering a place of worship. I am not a hugely religious person either, but every time I come to Paris I have to go Sacre Coeur to light a candle.

  5. Eric, Kudos on this brilliant shot. I can hear the silent stillness in the light of your photo. Prayer and peace and the inward turning heart. Beautifully framed. Perhaps you knelt to capture this one? I love seeing the worn stone stoop from this perspective. I agree with Ham. This is a remarkable and very memorable shot. The gentleman's silent contemplation in that lovely place is powerful. I think I will leave it up on the screne in large format for awhile and put on Bill Evans "Peace Piece."

  6. Ooops, now that I've put up the large version, I see it's a lady contemplating the Christ. . .

  7. Very nice shot. I managed to get something similar in mood in the small church in Montmartre in August. It was a peaceful haven for a few minutes from the tourist hoards (of which I was one!)

  8. I haven´t been to this church and now I really want to. So my list of "things to see in Paris next time I go there" is starting to grow again!

This photo is amazingly beautiful. Love the light!

  9. This photo is pure art in light and composition. And wonderfully intimate--a woman still and quiet before her God. Perhaps my favorite photo so far, Eric.

Bien le bonjour a tous, and of course, PEACE.

  10. I, too, share that feeling of peace upon entering a church. Yes, this is a contemplative photo, but it elicits many possible emotions. Peace, warmth, isolation, lonliness, welcome, trepidation...many things. Golden, Rembrandt lighting, the lingering remnants of incense over musty, medieval stonework. The modern Christ and cabinet for the chalice lend a somewhat eerie, science fiction mood.

  11. I agree about the feeling of peace. Great shot. There is not much light in there, so it really is a great shot, hard to take. Well done!

  12. Looks like Vermeer with the light shafts and quietness. Wonderful. You've given me an image to aspire to, with my new camera!

  13. At least 5 comments, in addition to yours, about a sense of peace in a place of worship . . . coincidence? I don't think so. . . hint - it is not about the building.

  14. What a beautiful photo. I used to go to Mass in that exact side chapel at Saint-Severin. Brings back fond memories.

  15. Eric, any chance you can make this shot available through your Zazzle site? I would like to send it to several people. thanks

PS-the lighting IS very Vermeer-like (rather than Rembrandt). . .just beautiful. -K.
