OK, that's a classic, but I love fall colors. There are more and more of these dead leaves in Paris as... there are more and more trees in the streets of Paris (apparently - even if it's not easy to check - 6 400 new trees were planted over the last 7 years by the City town hall). I took this photo in Montmartre, not far from the Sacré Coeur. By the way, if you like the French song "Autumn Leaves", here is a version by Yves Montand. Don't forget, tomorrow is a theme day within the DP community... PS: happy Halloween to my American visitors!

I am really confused, for one moment I thought I was looking at a photograph taken on the streets of Paris, France when all along, it's acutally a photograph of fallen leaves on the streets of Paris, Texas. It's gotta be, when the photographer describes it as fall and not 'Autumn', "Ce n'est pas le cas?"

ReplyDeleteHalloween night in Paris? Well no, not really, it's not big anymore. Nothing in the papers this morning, no witches in shop windows, I'm afraid Halloween is dead in France...
But tomorrow, is all saints day, you can visit a couple of Paris cemeteries. Less fun, I know...

ReplyDeleteFor those wondering about the Northern California earthquake yesterday night, Ami from Santa Clara lives in the affected region. From what I can tell, it was a good shaking but no damage other than pictures on the walls falling or things sliding off shelves. It was easily felt and nerve wracking, I'm sure, but not damaging. It was centered in the south of the Eastbay near Alum Rock/Milpitas/Sunol rather than near SF. Earthquakes are one thing I do NOT miss about my life in California ;^). They are truly SPOOKY!
And Eric, Halloween in SF, like Paris, is not going to be lively this year. Because of a shooting during the Castro neighborhood festivities last year, the usual party has been canceled.

ReplyDeleteI think I was standing right over the earthquake here in San Jose. It sure was a rumbler. And I think I've come to the right place to ask - is it bad luck to break a gargoyle? One of mine fell and broke his wing in the earthquake, and nothing has gone right since!
Happy haunting! Tomate, I know it's been canceled, but stay far away from the Castro anyway. Something bad is bound to happen in protest.
Ah! It's our Suzy P who lives there. No offense, I hope Ms. P, my memory of everyone's locale is faulty. (I don't even know where I'm at much of the time.) Glad you're unhurt. Don't know about breaking gargoyles, but after all it wasn't you who broke it, right? If the gargoyle spirits are mad at somebody, they should go after...whoever they think makes earthquakes. Haephestus? Saturn?

I hate doing this and I beg your forgiveness - I have never been to Paris, Texas either - but why would you find it difficult to take such a photograph there? I am sure they have trees, I know they have 'fall' and I bet you anything that there is a pavement not unlike the one in your autumnal snap of the 'sidewalks' in Paris, France

Well, first of all...I love this picture!! I have a thing about Autumn in Paris, but the reasons are too long to bore you with. However, once I was on the Batobus singing this song and one of our friends said.."What a great song..did you just make that up"?? I almost jumped into the Seine!! This is one of my most favorite songs in the world, I have it by Piaf. Yves Montand sang it here in SF at the Orpheum during his last US Tour. There wasn't a dry eye in the theater!!
ReplyDeleteThe Earthquake...I was at work on the phone and the person I was speaking to started yelling.."Oh My God We're having an Earthquake"!! I asked where she was as I didn't feel anything. She was in the city not far from me really, but she told me she had only lived here three years...I guess after 30 years in SF it takes something a little bigger to jolt me!! LOL!! This isn't really true as I have been woken up before by "tremors" that were about 4.2 on the Richter scale. This was a 5.6 with an epicenter in San Jose[the Silicon Valley as many people call it]and I guess there was some damage.
The last Autumn I spent in Paris I noticed there was more "Halloween Candy" in shops than ever before, but I never really saw anyone in a costume. My personal association with Autumn lines up more with the theme of this song and the beauty of the seasons changing to winter, the feel of the chill in the air, the Autumn foods...not a bunch of screaching nuts demanding candy...LOL!!
Ms Suzy P...I hope you are wrong about something bad happening in the Castro!! I live 5 blocks from there[at Dolores park]so the noise and traffic problems can be horrendous. I usually leave town when Halloween is on a weekend. The festivities have been canceled as they should be. Restaurants and shops will be closed along with the Metro and BART stations. The pathetic, sick, American penchant for violence has ruined this celebration. Nine people were shot last year! Enough is Enough!
Thanks Eric but now i'm getting error messages saying 'Bandwidth exceeded'. LOL. It's just not meant to be. C'est la vie. I have posted a theme day photo and apologise that i cannot list other participants. Can't wait for yours, Eric, please hurry and post before i go to bed!
