Season Classic!

I know what you're gonna say... Again! Yes again, every year it's the same, but it's still beautiful. In case you would not know what it is (which I seriously doubt!) , this the famous Notre Dame Cathedral, located in the middle of l'île de la Cité. Every year towards the end of November they erect an enormous Christmas tree in front of it (of course it's does not look so big in this photo ;-) and it's always breath taking. Last year, at the same time, it was super cold and snowy. This year, it's extraordinary mild.

  6. @Anonymous. "Do Paris residents realize how fortune they are to live in Paris?" I think we do, but like everything you get used to it... Sometimes you fail to see the beauty around you.

  9. Oh! That took my breath away. Quite literally, Eric. It is just absolutely lovely. The cathedral itself is so beautiful, then a lit up tree in front....Ahhh...so gorgeous.

  10. Stunning! I will never, ever get tired of it. Hope to see the annual tree for many years to come. As I sat down to my computer this morning I was looking at my PDP calendar with the December photo of Notre Dame and the Christmas Tree :-) Not sure which year that photo is from! This year's photo is stunning!!! Merci! Valorie

  11. To follow up on Eric's response: Residents of a city often lose or never develop the appreciation of the beautiful things there. Especially "tourist" sites. Many New York residents never visit the Statue of Liberty, for example.

I remember reading, back in 2006, comments on PDP from a Parisienne who often said she knew she was lucky to live in Paris. Such a feeling of wonder often fades as we take on jobs, families, and other responsibilities. It happens to all of us. I think that's one of the reasons we travel.

  14. I think I like this version with the surroundings showing even better than the off-kilter one from Christmas past. Hmmm - so does that mean this photo is on-kilter? And what the heck is a 'kilter' anyway? I'm guessing its not someone who wears a kilt! Yet another dictionary adventure awaits..... ;)

  15. Kilter - 17th C, unk orig, meaning in good working order, esp. out of kilter or off kilter. Example: Eric's camera is always in perfect kilter. ;)

  16. Excellent Carrie...you see the things one learns on PDP. Don't know how I got by without knowing that. :-)

  17. Oh, bring it on every year, Eric—it's always gorgeous!
Carrie -- you're so right. Eric's camera is in perfect kilter—and his angle is spot on too!
Jeff -- You are right too. I was born in NYC, and in all the (many, many) years I've lived here, I've never taken the ferry over to the Statue of Liberty..
