How about some black and white photo today... This is the back of Le Marché Secrétan, a covered market in the 19th arrondissement, by the Metro station Bolivar. It was built by famous French architect Victor Baltard (who precisely built what we call the Pavilion Baltard!), but like you can see, there is not much to buy over there at moment. The whole place is being totally redone, after a fierce battle between developers, the Paris town hall and... the locals! The project that won includes an organic market, a fitness center and a "ludothèque" (a game library)

I have never heard of a "ludotheque" (and am still not quite sure what it is), but I always look forward to a fun new place to visit in Paris. I imagine this is going to look really nice once the renovations are completed.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good use of the space, I hope that these new ventures in an old space will be successful!
ReplyDeletePS Loving the black and white! :)
Very nice B&W photo! I've never heard of a "ludotheque" either -- it's always a pleasure to learn something new.
ReplyDeletelove the black and white......that pic could easily be the back of a store or warehouse in L.A.!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice B&W photo
ReplyDeleteI love how you feel like you're in an old warehouse and either the bad guys are going to come out of nowhere, or Michael Jackson is going to start singing :-)
ReplyDeleteI just love this photo - and the last few days have been spectacular. I've never heard of a ludotheque either, but then, I'm not a gamer. There's so much to explore in Paris, it seems to never end!
ReplyDeleteThis B&W is really cool !
ReplyDeleteI would love to go to the organic market and the ludotheque sounds like fun even though I'm not really a gamer either.
Don't you love when you can make a claim to say "I was there when Eric took that shot"! Just saying like.... :-) love the B&W too!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a gamer but I'm sure there is a market for it. This is the first time I've heard of it. :)
ReplyDelete@Monnica, Ms M., "I have never heard of a "ludotheque" (and am still not quite sure what it is)," I know it's very French LOL. It's just a book library, only you can borrow "clever" games and toys. (here is what I found on Wikipedia. There is even a portal for all the French Ludothèques!
ReplyDeleteThe things you learn on PDP LOL!
@Donna ".that pic could easily be the back of a store or warehouse in L.A.!!" Yeah actually a big supermarket wanted to buy the place...
@Michael "or Michael Jackson is going to start singing :-)" You're on drugs!
@Carrie "and the last few days have been spectacular. " Awwwwww. That's sweet. Thank you Carrie!
@Bettina and Kristie "even though I'm not really a gamer either." It's more for kids Bettina ;-)
@Roniece " "I was there when Eric took that shot"! " What?! Who are you?!! ;-))
Love this graphic composition, Eric. You have been taking some amazing shots with that new camera of yours! Cinemathèque and discothèque I understand—mais c'est quoi un ludo??
ReplyDeleteI think a ludothèque is not "gaming" in the sense of computer games, but just plain "games". Like a library is where you get books, a ludothèque is where you can find fun and games.
ReplyDeleteLudo comes from the latin root ludos which means game. We use it pretty commonly in French. Hence "cette application est très ludique" meaning "this application is fun" - but it also implies that it's cleverly made.
ReplyDeleteUne application ludique implies that you learn while having fun!
You know everything now ;-)
Eric, I've been gone on a 6 day road trip and am catching up on Paris Daily Photo. LUV LUV this pic!!!:)
