Today is May 8 and exactly 69 years ago it was the end of WWII and France will celebrate it of course... This year I will not post a photo of de Gaulle, but of (Sir) Winston Churchill who also played a major role during World War II - especially towards France. Here is a statue of him, which is located not far from the one of de Gaulle ; it was made in 1998 by Sculptor Jean Cardot.
The great, great man. The sculptor captured his personality well. A fitting one for this date.
ReplyDeleteUn grand jour pour se souvenir!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo! The light and composition are perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a photo, again... ! Yes, Eric, this is just a fair choice at this time. I have read his article on Wikipedia and found a lot of truly interesting parts. Read it again if you don't know all that by heart. I spent a delicious time reading that with your photo in mind, as a background. The light is perfect.
Good photo, the dark sky really sets the mood.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone, the tone of the background reflects the resolute-ness (I think I just made up this word) of the man and the times. Well done!!
ReplyDeleteA fitting tribute Eric. We saw some TV coverage of the ceremonies this morning while having breakfast in a cafe in Paris.
ReplyDeleteFollowing on from yesterday's post it was our turn to meet up with Jeff last night!
We had drinks and dinner in Le Marais and it was a very pleasant evening.
Looking forward to the picnic wherever it ends up being held.:-)
Love the "atmosphere" of this shot. Hope Paris is enjoying the celebration --
ReplyDeleteNice tribute.
