Soccer mania

In case you don't know (that is if you live in the States or in the Far East!) the soccer world  cup has started a few days ago in Brazil, which means half of the world is revolving around a little round ball. France is a big soccer nation, so you can imagine what importance it has in our daily life at the moment; there is not a single TV program, a single magazine, a single website that does not deal with soccer! But it's probably advertising that makes the most extensive use of this cup! Hence these little Smart cars all dressed up for the occasion, that promote betting on sports. I found them on the Grands Boulevards and thought they were pretty cute.

  1. I've never gotten the point to soccer (football), but I guess I'm in the minority.

I look at Smart Cars and wonder how on earth I could ever get my six foot frame in one of those things.

  3. It's just not fair to us men, we can't get to watch our favourite TV programmes, no jobs get done around the house, because our WAGS* spend all the time glued to the telly watching grown men kicking a ball around. ;-)

  5. Eric, I promise you there are many of us in the States who are following the World Cup with great interest. We just beat Ghana for the first time, woohoo! Thank you for a lovely site. Paris is my favorite city in the world and I will sharply miss your daily photos when you've finished.

  6. That's right Drummond you'd better get used to it ;) but never mind, it's only for a couple of weeks.
Now I must get to bed as I'm up at 2am to watch Australia play The Netherlands.

  8. Eric - we have suddenly caught the fever here in the U.S.! It's televised, and Google has a new FIFA doodle updated daily :-)
The US team isn't expected to go much further, so I'll be rooting for France. Go Bleu!

  9. I have so many American friends following the World Cup this year. I think the South African games in 2010 tipped the scale for us. It must have been those vuvuzelas.

  10. Yes, we are more into it than you think, Eric! Very exciting when the U.S. beat Ghana the other day. Even so, I learned to love the game in Paris, so—Allez, Bleu!!
