The design school that Philippe Starck attended...

This beautiful door belongs to the Ecole Camondo, an interior and product design school - and also an Art deco museum, that you can find on 266 Boulevard Raspail (14th arrondissement). The school building in itself is a modern building (conceived by Cuno Brullmann who also participated in the Pompidou Center) but it is surrounded by these old walls... On top of this door it says "entrance to the workshop".

  2. Love the perspective and the soft light you got on these BLUE doors. And very interesting information about this school and the museum (my husband's college studies were in industrial/product/interior design, so of personal interest). Bravo Eric!

  3. Beautiful blue- one of my favourite parts of Paris were the enormous, exquisite doorways leading into historical buildings. I wish I'd seen this one. Merci Beaucoup!

  4. Simple yet beautiful Eric. Is this near the Cartier Foundation you mentioned in an early post?

  5. From this perspective, the wall looks like it's been inflated to fit around the door.

  9. Bend down, as you get in, in order not to bump your head!

  10. That's quite an interesting contrast - the old building and the blue door. I like it!

  13. By the way Eric, we have our own Blue Door here in S. Florida. It's a restaurant on Miami Beach as part of the famous Delano hotel. Funny thing though, when I looked, they have a lot of French words on the menu, but not so sure you'd be too proud of the use!

    For example:

    Foie Gras Burger
    Daurade Pastis
    Homard Banana

    Yuck....

And to top it off, they've even added a Tomate Tatin which couldn't possibly compare to your Tarte Tatin

  14. Paris has the most interesting doors and also knockers.

  15. Tomate Tatin? No, that doesn't sound right.

By the way, I'm afraid Manu was right and Blogger is getting worse and worse :-(

  22. hey!!
I just find this blog very interesting! This door is the entrance of my school, let me correct you, it doesn't belong to the camondo school but to the "ecole speciale d'architecture" which is an architecture school. The "ecole camondo" is situated on the first 3 level of the 7 levels building standind on the left of this great blue door.
I think you're doing a great analytic work over paris and its caracteristics!!
