Theme day: best photo of the year

It's always hard to select a picture among 365 especially when it's supposed to be your best one. There are photos you like because they remind you of a specific situation, others that were particularly hard to take... Viewers don't want to know about all this, they just see a photo and think "I like it" or "I don't". Anyway... This year I ended up selecting a photo that I took at Paris Plage, last summer. Go there, if you want to read the original caption. And BTW, I hear we are turning the 2007 page today, so let me wish you all a wonderful new year ;)

Today, like every first of the month, is a City Daily Photo theme day. 117 City Daily Photo bloggers have also posted their best photo of the year. Please pay them a visit (but keep in mind that due to time differences all photos don't show at the same time).

  4. Yes Tonton_Flaneur, just as you predicted...

    You never miss a day!
    (Sung to Auld Lang Syne)

    May P. D. P. keep going strong,
    With comments we must say,
    May P. D. P. keep going strong,
    And never miss a day!

    CHORUS:
You never miss a day, cher Eric,
    Never miss a day,
We'll take a cup of red wine then,
    You never miss a day!

And surely ye'll have your fav'rites,
    And surely I'll have mine,
We'll take a cup of red wine then,
    You never miss a day!

  6. A calendar page flips up but
Oh! There are no more to see.
I need to pull the nail from wall,
Review the pictures, times, and space
And tack the future in their place.

A long time friend fell two weeks past, but
Would not go gentle into that cold night.
    Ah, he’s with us yet.
Like him, I hope, and trust that I
Have miles to go before I sleep.

Shall we this fond pageant see?
Life is a carnival: two bits a shot.
    And we ain’t dead yet!

    Bonne Année, tout mes amis.

  12. Bonne année a tout!
Michael I got inspired by your verses and made a little something for Eric too.

"He takes us to places we've never been
He makes Paris live forever in our dreams

He captures great shots no matter what it takes
Even if some viewers don't share his taste

    But most important, photos aside
Is the tender, love and care he spreads worldwide

Who is this man that accomplishes so much?
Does he have a magic wand or just a magical touch?

Hey, it's our friendly Eric that through his daily blog
Gives us so much, specially his love"

  34. I think what makes this photo so good (beyond its technical merits) is the universality of it. I can hear my mom's voice in my head as I vicariously splash the puddles saying "don't get wet!"
Thank you for a wonderful year, Eric and we wish you health and happiness to bring us (at least) 365 more photos of your beloved city.
