Monthly Theme day: when people think of my city...

I know you expected me to come up with THE idea for today's theme but I could not think of the one thing that would represent Paris. So I went the easy way: I browsed my photos and selected the ones I thought would represent Paris best (if you want a better view, simply click on the photo):
Place de la Concorde (this one is recent), Musée d'Orsay (this one too), fashion, wine (the one stolen from my cellar!), Notre Dame, Paris cobblestones (and velib!), strikes!, romance, fashion shows, Beaubourg (Pompidou Center), Paris skyline, Hermès (and luxury goods in general), sex, Rodin, Ratatouille(!), croissants - and petits déjeuners in general, Edith Piaf, macarons (hi Monica LOL), love, a good beer on a Paris café terrace, the fabulous bridges of Paris, Sacré Coeur, fine food, less fine - but still very good! - food, France's colors, Champs Elysées, the "crottoirs" (dog poop on sidewalks), the metro, "the" tower, Saint Germain des prés, large tables where you can have endless dinners with friends, Charles de Gaulle, more sex, more metro, the French tennis open and... 2 cafés et l'addition!

Today is a theme day (when people think of my city, they think of...) among the City Daily Photo community. This month 135 (it's growing every month!) are participating. Please pay them a visit but keep in mind that not everyone lives on the same time zone.

  3. Hi Eric! LOL

Delighted by your choice(s). It's only fair since we gave you so many options. Impossible to chose just one.

  4. Well, it's not very imaginative, but with all the work I have at the moment, my brain is out of juice!!

  5. Lynn, asnwering your question, I am here, but you are not.

    How come???!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Very clever Eric - I wondered how on Earth you would choose just one! But where are les macarons?? ;)

  7. Excellent collection of Paris photos. The dog poo made me laugh! Happy theme day :)

  8. Yes, it IS very imaginative! I could do without the rats (I have a bit of a phobia there) but otherwise, they are all very provocative photos!

And what is it that I see in there?
    FIVE EIFFEL TOWERS!
    FIVE EIFFEL TOWERS!!
    FIVE EIFFEL TOWERS!!!

This was fun. Let's do it again.

  9. Now that I looked at it closer, you have so many of my favorite pictures that opened up more of Paris to me, and for that, I am so grateful to you Eric. The rats...I ran to see them and told everyone about them, eraserhead of Marianne..ran and bought one of those from the gift shop. It's like strollong down memory lane with PDP.

  14. Better safe than sorry ;-)
As long as you've got my croissant, I am a happy!

  15. Pont Girl - the macarons are there, I'd recognise that special box a hundreds years from now!!

Take a closer look and you'll see it.

  16. Tout le monde y trouve son compte.

It's definitly totally Paris as we, French people, see it and as tourists do too.
    Fabulous work.
Eric, Petrea is right, you have to made a poster of it.I'll be a buyer if you remove the rats lol.
(Btw I'm waiting for some goods I bought in your "boutique"! So impatient).

  17. And after all, Paris is a lot of good things stuffed into a very small space.

  18. Il est exquis! I shutter (sorry about the bad pun here) to think how much time this took to make this collage. Just fabulous.
How are you ever going to top this for Groundhog day?! You DO know that is Saturday of course.

  19. The dog poo is exquisite, in an ineffably Parisian way!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well done!!!

You know, that dog poop would make a heck of an interesting desktop on somebody's computer and could also be quite the conversation starter! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well done - I love it! It certainly sums up my feelings about Paris - minus the rats and dog poop, which I didn't notice!

    ReplyDelete
  22. wow, i love this! but.... what are the little white creatures hanging by their necks? please tell me they don't sell rats in the butcher shops of paris!

the dog turds made me laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  23. lol! I thought for sure the one thing everyone would have agreed on as representing Paris was the Eiffel Tower :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. This is so much better than just one photo! Perfect choice Eric!

  26. I thought I was the only one having a hard time describing it on one picture!

I'm glad you post this one! It's nice to look at your previous photos again.

    merci, Eric! :)

olivier...I love that song by Mistinguett!! I have it from a collection of French CD's and I love it at the end when she shouts...
    Ça, c'est Paris ! Ça, c'est Paris !"

    Ça, c'est Paris ! Ça, c'est Paris !"

    Perfectly appropriate for today!!

  32. Je comprends la difficulté du choix.
Everyone but me can find his own answer.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Bien fait, Eric! I too would be interested in purchasing this as a poster. Someday I'll have my own classroom and that would be perfect! :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Great choice - after all, how could you choose! And I thought Chirac had put those Crottemobiles out on the streets. People really should clean up after their dogs. I thought there were fines these days?!

Super collage - great choices .

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wow i was only joking when i challenged you to get all those ideas on one post, Eric! You did it! Glad to see the gorgeous golden tower one there. I reckon you put the rats one in just to frighten me didn't you. Ugh. Ugh again.

Yes Monica i'm here, last night i fell into bed with a ghastly cold. J'ai une rhume terrible. Couldn't wait up in the end.

  36. Eric

A very well constructed collage. The use of the dog poo made me laugh, because in a lovely city like Paris, you really don't want to have to keep looking down at the pavement. I really don't see why the French don't have dog fouling laws in their towns. It's a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am participating but didn't know how to link myself on the list!

    ReplyDelete
  38. So sorry to hear that Lynn, having a cold really sucks.
You know what to do: stay in bed, take your tea and prepare a pile of nice DVDs to watch while you´re recovering.
    Get well soon will you!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks Monica. No tv in bedroom i'm afraid! My borrowed laptop has to connect downstairs, so it's to bed soon with that tea and Samuel Pepys which i'm reading at the moment! Thanks for the wishes. Back in a few hours.

  40. Eric, this is wonderful! Squeals of Delight!!! And this as a poster...I WANT ONE, heck maybe two...one for my office and one for my home (a girl can never have enough Paris)! Thank you for spoiling us, Eric.

    Happy Weekend everyone.

    ReplyDelete

  42. So many to choose from...

I LOVE 'Eiffel Tower in the mist'; - your best ever. I can still see Michael composing limericks while you slept !!

Monica's Macaroons; - A wonderful gift. She was bowled over.

The street party in le neuvième. I think it was 9th ?
How we would have loved to have been at the party !

The Lovers. Paris and Romance are synonymous. One can hear, 'I love Paris' playing on a piano accordion, but you won't see where it comes from. It's just in your head.

Dog-turds. It's a game like hopscotch. It makes people dance. One can't do that anywhere else in the world.

We feel blessed and lucky when we come to Paris.

Happy Theme Day, Eric. We love it !!!!

  43. I'm very glad you included the photo of the young couple making out on the quai. That's Paris!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. It's true, in a city like Paris how could you choose but one?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh no Eric!
    You didn't includ the catacombs!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Eric, Of course you couldn't narrow it down any further! Thank you for these many lovely views. We can never get to much of Paris now, can we?! ;^). Some of my faves are among your offerings today. Happy Friday!

  50. I insist on a poster so I can donate it to my French class. And one for me, too. How much?

    ReplyDelete
  51. OMG - I can't believe I missed the Macarons - I think I was distracted by Hermes :) Thanks for pointing it out Monica!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I wondered which one picture you would chose....this is a fabulous way to show your choices. Thanks for sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Fabulous collage Eric - I agree, it's impossible to think of just one thing that Paris is famous for. Though if I was pushed, I guess I'd go for "the" tower.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ooh la la! Everything AND the kitchen sink. You even included sex! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Eric, i'm sad....;( There is one thing missing, the one thing popping into ALL our minds when we think of Paris. YOU !!! I respectfully ask for a portrait in the forthcoming days, to make up for it. lol. I'm sure everyone agrees. No, no buts...

    ReplyDelete
  56. One more fan here, moi, requesting Eric's portrait!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. But, but... !

I'm just back from a show, I'm exhausted, cold... I'm going to bed right now!

    Will be back tomorrow.

  58. Don't be shy, Eric. The girls have exceptionally good taste, - comme tu sais !
Women always know a gem when they see one.
I think that they may have you cornered !

  59. With a city as beautiful as Paris, how could you pic just one thing. Very nice.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Eric, loved your solution to the theme day dilemma. I was fortunate seeing it before I'd put mine together. You gave me permission to be just a little bit looser! Thanks!!

  61. Not an easy job for you, this collage says it all. I wonder where this Ratatouille is located/

    ReplyDelete
  62. Love your collage. I don't think a collage is the easy way out! (since that is what I did, too, HA) I think it would be easier just to randomly pick something and disregard all the rest ;)

Anyhow, loved looking at ALL of the pictures. Paris seems more lovely every time I read your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  63. We'll always have Paris...seems 've been recalling movies as is with Seattle, Alabama and now Paris! Your collage sums it all up but why the poop? =D

My family would definitely come back there soon! Good day!
