More love!
I don't know these people, but I'm pretty sure they are tourists who came to Paris especially around Valentine's day! I took this photo on the Canal Saint Martin in the 10th arrondissement, a place that I recommend if you want to take a nice walk in a lesser traditional place of Paris (I mean less traditional than the Seine embankment). Something funny about this canal: in was build under Napoleon who raised special taxes on wine for the occasion; I bet this was very unpopular at the time!

I bet too. This is a lovely photo; very similar to one i took recently in fact of a larger bridge with two lovers on!
ReplyDeleteAm i first? Am i, am i? ;)
Yes you are Lynn...pfff ;)
ReplyDeleteParis city of love, with your pictures Eric, definitely!! It's romantic à souhait (don't know how to say that...).
Good night.
Am I second? Am I?
Pff..yes you are, Guille...
ReplyDeletea souhait is difficult... perhaps It's as romantic as you like (meaning couldn't be more so) - a colloquial phrase is It's as romantic as get-out. lol ! Don't ask me where that comes from though. Also, romantic as hell, i think this is what you mean?
Looks like a romantic environment!
ReplyDeleteOh I hope they are on their honeymoon! I spent my honeymoon in Paris.
ReplyDeleteThe daylight's reflection in the water is just gorgeous. Another perfect photo from Eric!
Another one to take my breath away. Lovely, lovely, lovely. It's still Valentine's day here.
ReplyDeleteHrumph, she got the gold again. Wonder who put the curse on your computer, Lynn???
ReplyDeleteJeff: This is the canal where the apt. we rent is situated. For anyone who is interested, it is a system of locks that I have described to others as a very mini Panama Canal. It is fasinating to see just how it works, especially since you can view it up close.
Not sure if the metal bridge in the backround is part of the lock system.
Will have to reinact this pix with Mr. Romance this summer.
err.. Eric what are you trying to do to us?! This is too much romance, too much Paris, I don't think I can take it since I'm so far from my beloved city.
ReplyDeleteWhat am I saying?? Keep them coming! We love these kind of photos.
To the gold medal winner: congrats Lynn!! I love it when you're game!
To the silver medal winner: Guille I think Lynn's translation is perfect, Paris is romantic as hell!!!
Phx: Canal Saint Martin is one place I haven't been but always wanted too. So I guess I have to go back someday to visit it! Since you'll be staying near by, do take some photos when you go there in June.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a beautiful shot!
ReplyDeleteBut I have to disagree with the "less traditional" comment. If you mean fewer tourists, or lesser known, then yes. But the Canal St. Martin is quintessential Paris to a lot of people.
Don't forget, the most famous scene of the classic movie Hotel du Nord (with Gabin and Arletty) was shot there, and to many people of a certain age, Canal St. Martin *is* Paris.
Allez, tous en coeur maintenant: "Atmosphère, atmosphère ... est-ce que j'ai une gueule d'atmosphère?!!" (bonjour la traduction!)
Eric, if they were lovers they would be kissing. Have a look what he is doing instead - he's taking a photograph instead of doing anything else. Must be a blogger.
ReplyDeleteBibi's coming today, and will stroll the canal!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a romantic place to have a walk with your lover. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI thank you, girls (smug smile)! Ham, he is taking a pic of her though, a memory he can keep always, in a frame on his desk.... now ssshhh don't spoil it!
ReplyDeleteEric, the water's soft reflections in this shot are so beautiful with the green of the bridge rail, and you've caught the couple in the light.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Tomate mentioned a film I had not heard of, Hotel du Nord, having a famous scene here. . .a new film featuring Paris to look forward to seeing, yay! But, don't I know this bridge or one very much like it from the film Amelie?

Oh comment c'est tellement beau...
ReplyDeleteI love the Canal but have never seen Hotel du Nord. I love Arletty and was just reading in an Edmund White book about how wild she was in her old age. I've searched for a copy of this film..do you have one at home tomate??? ;-)
ReplyDeleteFYI while I was at it, I shot Hotel du nord of course. I'm just waiting for the right time to post it ;)
ReplyDeleteHam LOL on "Must be a blogger". They actually kissed too LOL But the light was better on this photo ;)
PHX, I have a photo of the lock somewhere, hang on... yes, found it! It's here, shame the little video does not work anymore.
Tonton (and everyone), this is for you. A movie scene that will remain for ever in the French culture. Atmosphere, atmosphere...
ReplyDeleteLynn your translation is good! I think I can use it's "incredibly" romantic too, this is what I found in the dictionary. Some idiomatic expressions are not really translatable.
ReplyDeleteMonica, thx for the medal!! I wish I had the gold one...
Yes, incredibly, amazingly romantic. Any of those adverbs. I was working on your start of the sentence though, romantic as...
ReplyDeleteThe flippant and trendy thing to say is as romantic as a romantic thing! Of course this is light-hearted and explains nothing but people use it a lot, i find.
That's so beautiful and romantic! God, if they even kissed, they are more clever than bloggers! LOL!
ReplyDeleteEric, thanks for posting the clip from Hotel du Nord. I will have to order that from Netflix soon. Here is a photo from Amelie (Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain), and I see it is a different bridge on the canal.

PS, any other wonderful Parisian atmosphere in any films that you can recommend seeing would be much appreciated. :-) -K.
Love the photo. Perfect timing after Valentine's. And thankyou for the Arletty clip. Fabulous. She was so gorgeous.
