A day at the Vanves flea market
Isn't she pretty? I found her at Les Puces de Vanves, one of the 3 Paris flea markets, located, quite logically, at Porte de Vanves (14th arrondissement). It's really the perfect place to go to (it's open every weekend of the year) if you like to chiner (that is to go through all sorts of junk and find hidden treasures!). That is exactly what I did for you today... with my camera. Here is the result with a little help from the guys at Animoto.

Hi Eric. I love the way you captured the mannequin looking bored in this photo. It's funny!
ReplyDeleteBTW, congrats on being a "Blog of Note" – c'ést trés cool, ça !
Buzzgirl? Is that Buzzgirl first? Congrats to you!
ReplyDeleteGee Buzzgirl, how quick have you typed these lines LOL?
ReplyDeletePour Blogs of note, merci, c'est très cool effectivement (mais bon je n'y suis pas pour grand chose...)
Oh, and did you buy anything?
ReplyDeleteCool collage on "making of." Love the bear(?!)
Eric, this is so cool (yes Tomate, I said "cool")!
ReplyDeleteIt's not just a photo of the flea market, but you picked something so interesting. I happen to have checked since I know that I love your market shots and found
This one
This one
and
This one
that you took before.
Oh the chairs, the cameras and the road sign please. I think the mannequin is a little creepy. Did you buy her? I love those places, it's too long since i went. Great pic, Eric.
ReplyDeleteHel-lo Michaeeell.
Well done Buzzgirl!
ReplyDeleteLynn, if you turned your head the other way in your photo and shaved your head, you might pass for a mannequin at the marché! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I LOVE "chiner"...didn't know that was what it was called, sounds classier than what I say, "digging through junk for the hidden treasure" lol....sounds like a wonderful way to spend a day!
ReplyDeleteWell! Michael! I am not flattered by that. You may well be off my Christmas card list. My face is not inanimate. I just said she was creepy too! lol. though... looking at her face, she is very attractive.... ok then i'll let you off. Only just though!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind having those cheekbones back actually. I shall never shave my head though. No no. I am picturing her now in Eric's apartment. Shall we call her Lynn?
ReplyDeleteOh yes, you're right. I hadn't noticed the "creepy" comment. I just noticed that your head is tilted left (from my standpoint) and her's/it's turned right. I don't find her creepy at all in fact, so it was meant as a compliment.
ReplyDeleteNow, if you were wearing a sombrero... LOL
See, I'm missing your comments (which may not be a bad thing). So you see, you could be in Eric's fantasies now in his apartment. I don't want to imagine that, because he's sure to pop in here any moment and rattle off one of those, "I'm tired, it's late, I'm going to bed now" sign-offs. Now I have to picture him with this mannequin named Lynn in bed.
ReplyDeleteLOOOOOOOOOOOL Lynn!
ReplyDeleteNo I did not buy her! I did not buy anything to be honest as I went there only to take photos. Besides I'm a mousy chineur...
Eric I love the way the manequim seems to be posing just for you! You're so clever!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun it must be to chiner!!!
What's a mousy chineur Eric? Are you shy?
ReplyDeletelol sure, sure, Eric. I bet she's in your sitting room right now. I dare not say your bedroom. Michael seems disturbed by it. (secret smile) :) !!
ReplyDeletePffff, I meant LLLLousy, of course! It's late, I've got an excuse!
ReplyDeleteMichael
ReplyDeleteI'm confused, I thought you'd be flying over to Brazil by now. When are you coming? It's hard to follow you, you know, you seem almost omnipresent!!!
Here it comes Lynn...Eric's preparing us for the "I'm tired, it's late, I'm going to bed now"...
ReplyDeleteI'm tired, it's late, I'm going to bed now...
ReplyDeleteMonica...I leave tomorrow night and arrive Sunday morning in RAINY Sao Paulo (if my weather channel is correct!).
ReplyDeleteSo, when do you fly into Sao Paulo for our date with Mlle Cai P. Irinha ?
I told you so!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLynn we're actually "in the room" at the same time our dear Eric, and even Michael is here!
ReplyDeleteWell, of course Eric has left now, he had to say it's late and he's doing dodo. Michael guessed right.
You were right Michael, he's just about to say he's coming ...er i mean.. going to bed ;O
ReplyDeletehmm Michael, a date with Mlle. Cai P. Rinha... even more tempting... but on such short notice! Aren't you going to stay until the next sunday?
ReplyDelete;O is right!
ReplyDeleteI'm not even going to go there!!!
So about the photo (to keep us on task before they complain in cyberland), don't you find the man with the backpack quite intriguing in this shot. It gives it a whole new perspective.
And what colour lipstick is that really?
I know, Monica, isn't it just DIVINE? And Michael thank you for the well-meant compliment. What is Lynn dressed in i wonder? I KNOW! Eric's got her dressed in that Barbie pink confection he posted a while ago. I do hope he's put some hair on her by now. My head will feel the cold otherwise. Monica i am quite green that Michael is coming to your country. He's coming straight back to me though, i'll have you know.... ;)
ReplyDeleteNo Monica, I leave Friday and arrive in Paris on Saturday to enjoy what's left of my weekend at home.
ReplyDeletelipstick nº 8: daring rouge
ReplyDeleteI hear it's Lynn fav lipstick colour.
In the video on The Making Of page Eric posted, one will notice that Lynn the mannequin is dressed in, uh hum, a WEDDING DRESS!
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a colour i used to wear Michael called Shiny Conker. I used to make up my eyes like that too - hang on, it IS me!!! lol
ReplyDeleteReally Lynn? Eric AND Michael?
ReplyDeleteI must learn a few things with you...
LOL MICHAEL !! Now you're being plain mischievous! Honestly!....(where is that pic again?...)
ReplyDeleteWhich pic?
ReplyDeleteHurry, because I'm tired, it's late, I'm going to bed now...
The vid. So she IS! Goodness, a wedding dress...well..it's all so sudden...
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. Did you buy her?
ReplyDeleteMichael I have a bonus flight ticket so it means I actually could go to Sao Paulo but to use it I must make the seat reservation in advance.
ReplyDeleteHey, here's a thought, why don't you come to Rio on sunday, let's go have a blast at Porcao, you're favorite restaurant in Rio. I'll pay for the caipirinha!
I'm sure you can have a free ticket to Rio with your mileage program, you've been all around the world, you probably cann go to the moon free and come back!
LOL...maybe you were just trying it on for if/when the big PDPWD (PDP Wedding Day) arrives. I'd suggest you get something that covers up those arms however.
ReplyDeleteI meant your favorite restaurant, sorry
ReplyDeleteI'd love to Monica you know I would, but I haven't been home but 2 days in the last 2 weeks so will be glad to be home. Next time?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photograph as usual. Funny comments as usual too!
ReplyDeleteGoodnight everyone. Have fun! Monica, you should notice that I paid high dollar for you on Facebook to make up for the trip to Rio I can't make.
ReplyDeleteok Michael, but I meant this sunday, not the next one. Next time you're here we must plan this date with Mlle. Caip I Rinha!!!
ReplyDeleteYes goodness bare arms AND head. This girl's run out of luck. Thank goodness Eric bought her and took her home. Eric, he doth protest too much methinks.
ReplyDeleteShame you have to go Michael, but i shall look forward to your assistance when you return...;)
ReplyDeleteLOL Michael, ok that will do for now. I'll check Facebook to see how much I'm worth!!
ReplyDeleteGood evening Richard. It's all a bit crazy in here isn't it. Nothing whatever to do with me...
ReplyDeleteI'm going out now, it's just the beggining of friday night here, so...
ReplyDeletegood night!
Good night Monica, I'm off to bed. This wedding dress is killing.
ReplyDeleteohhhh
ReplyDeleteI seen several things I liked!
I love your blog, I have been to that flea market and it was very ...interesting. A lady was selling half a box of pasta. Anyway thank you for allowing me to visit Paris again.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Eric, You are on blogs of notes! http://blogsofnote.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteParis how nice~!
ReplyDeleteI love this photo, it's so "grunge"! She's INTENSIVELY looking at you, isn't she?
ReplyDeleteSo her name is Lynn and you bought her? What a peculiar idea to buy a mannequin called Lynn! he he.
It's fun I took almost the same photo in Camden Town, except that my mannequin wore an AC/DC tee-shirt.
Girls, you're becoming crazy, it's 2.50 a.m. and there is already 54 comments !! Ok, in fact I'm jealous because I missed all the fun, and what's more I missed Michael who's never in the race and was here specially tonight!
(Btw, 15 000 $?? I was not expecting so much ;) )
Bonne nuit. See you tomorrow night.
Poor Eric. Goes off to fais his dodo, and in the morning finds the internet abuzz with rumors of his mail-order bride!
ReplyDeleteI love the photo and the video. I'm jealous of your lens, Eric. Nice crop job, too.
And thank you for the new verb, chiner. It's a favorite southern California pastime, especially with two big monthly flea markets in Pasadena.
nice
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful eye . . .thanks for the views of Paris. Camera in hand, I will be walking throughout your city come fall!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on Blog of Note.
Gambits from Gail
I've been enjoying your blog all the way from Monterey Bay California! Thanks for the pretty bald girl with lots of makeup.
ReplyDeleteAh...
ReplyDeleteMy godness, she is so beautiful!
Eric, I have a request for tomorrow's photo if possible. I won't be here to see what happens during the local elections so please do update us when you can. Here's a video I found on CNN about Sarkozy's waning support and affect on local elections.
ReplyDeleteGuille said: So her name is Lynn and you bought her? What a peculiar idea to buy a mannequin called Lynn! he he.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I love the way you have worded this Guille. How rumours do escalate, it just shows doesn't it? he he Eric will be spinning with hands on his head.
Mail-order bride, Petrea! Very funny. We'd best not interrupt him today then, he will be very busy with 'Lynn'. I too am soooo jealous of his lens i so need a new camera, mine is on the blink now. I don't want a compulsory retirement from DP lol.
Guille i'd love to see the Camden Town photo. Sadly some of the Town is now missing, owing to a huge fire last month. The market and the Hawley Arms, gone. Here's a report - excuse being off-topic for a moment Eric?
Camden Fire
By the way, yes thanks for the new verb. I guess chiner would be to rummage in English. I love chiner!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, I like very much your choice, Eric ! This mannequin is so intensively looking at you, Guille is right!
ReplyDeleteI saw the video too ; the animation gives an awesome effect to each object! Love it!! Thanks for all.
beautiful photos. thank you for posting, i have enjoyed browsing through your images.
ReplyDeleteJolie photo d'un "mannequin parisien" ;)
ReplyDelete...et bravo pour tenir le défi d'une photo par jour! C'est pas facile du tout...
Bonjour! I just found your blog, thanks to it being named a blog of note, and I will be visiting every day.
ReplyDeletethanks for this info. will be handy if I get to visit the place. :)
ReplyDeleteYour blog is wonderful...I have been fortunate enough to have visited your great city many times and enjoy discovering something new each time. But I have to say I am jealous of your camera lens. You always seem to capture the essence with simplicity. Hopefully, this poor country girl can make it back someday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea as today is Woman's Day!!! Beautiful, really beautiful photograph!!!
ReplyDeletei love the photos.
ReplyDeleteit's been my lifelong dream to go to paris, and hopefully someday i'll go and see things as amazing as the photos that you have taken.
c'est magnifique!
Thanks for the video link, Michael. I had already heard about Sarko's comment to that citizen at the Salon de l'Agriculture, and how people felt about the response. I guess you could say the honeymoon and post-election bliss is definitely over now, uh ;) (You said "cool"? Tsk, tsk, tsk.. what next.. going to the 5th? tsk, tsk)
ReplyDeleteShe's not real. A creation of man, like a fork. She's bald. Her features are delicate and sharp. Her mouth is open slightly showing teeth. Real mouths open like that in ecstasy, delish. She has beautiful eyes, thats why we like her. In a crowd of real people she is frozen so beautifully numb to it all. She doesn't need you to see her. She isn't going to ask your name. And she's not going to change her expression, not even for a camera man.

I just came across your blog. I love it.
ReplyDeleteNo competition from me tonight girls.
ReplyDeleteI am off to bed...
Your blog is merveilleux. I definitely will be dropping by again.
ReplyDeleteYou inspire me!
ReplyDeleteyeah yeah Rose...
ReplyDeletethis manican is almost alive. what a great expression she has. great capture! I love how you show your view of life in Paris. I don't think I could get anything like that anywhere else. Very unique.
ReplyDeleteDo you not think she has the Kylie Minogue raised eyebrow off to a T.
ReplyDeleteSuperb image as always, but far too lifelike.
The good taste.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
