How about a little jump into the sky? These skate boarders never cease to amaze me, I must say. I would love to do this! I took this photo in the same park where I took the windmill photo - the one called Paris Texas. They installed several skate board facilities there and teenagers love them. Hope your Easter week-end goes well, here it's freezing cold...
Better get out of here while I can.
ReplyDeleteExcellent capture Eric! Did you get really close or was this with a zoom?
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome picture. It really emphasizes the ramp and shows how precariously the skateboarder is positioned. I love that it's in black and white.
ReplyDeleteThe cement looks more like the fabric of a large sail. With outstretched arms the skateboarder soars into space. It must be exhilarating to experience such virtual flight.
ReplyDeleteAs is so often the case here, the composition is eye catching.
Like he's skating on cloth borne by the wind. I agree, I'm glad you chose B&W for this.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of people are off for the weekend.
Get out of where, Tall Gary? The monkey suit? Everyone got new pictures except Justine. Same old pic, Justine...
Cool action shot, Eric! I used to date a skater-boy in the 80's when I was in junior high - and he used to love to ride ramps like this! Ah, the memories of puppy love :)
ReplyDeleteForgot to say so before, Michael - love your new photo - comme si vous etes tres beau!
Yours too, Petrea - you like look like an undercover photojournalist - tres chic!
Joyeux Paques et joyeux printemps tout le monde!
awesome! i love the line and contrast between the sky and the ramp, and the position of the boarder is sweet :) you could definitely have fun with this in photoshop.
ReplyDeleteLove the Pic!! Know a friend who can do this. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, pont girl. I took it in the sideview mirror on the way to the Farmers Market this morning. No, I was not driving.
ReplyDeleteWow, perfect timing on your photo! I've got 3 skateboarders at home and grew up in the skateboard era when all the kids in my high school were skaters (or surfers) or usually both!
ReplyDeleteWe've taken my oldest to the skateboard park a few times and he loves it! Didn't know the kids were into it there too, another new thing I've learned from your photos!
Have a happy Easter :)
Ahhh Pont Girl, did you say 'See you later boy'? Memories huh. Memories here... Skater Boy – Avril Lavigne
ReplyDeleteThis is a great photo Eric, i have lots in that pose of my sons! Wish the photos were as good though.
Wow yes Petrea i didn't see you at first. Loving the photo. What a glam Papp you are!
ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention that song, Lynn - everytime I hear it I think of my darling Joel...
ReplyDeleteYou're up late, btw! Although it is Samedi soir, so you must be partying away :)
LOLLL Eric, you working the skate board? Funny you say you wish to do that, I can picture you on one of those...! Not!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo anyway.
Love your new picture Petrea. And Lynn, great linking.
Jouyeuse Pâques a tout! See you in the morning, like Pont Girl said, it's samedi soir so I'm out!
lol yes i'm up late, i've been doing some late research, i'm tired but Skater Boy woke me up! I should be going to bed soon. Thought i might say Happy Easter to Michael and Eric but they're out partying OBviously... so have to be tomorrow.
ReplyDeletePetrea, before I forget: Happy Birthday!!!!
ReplyDeleteEric, you always use the B&W advisedly, it makes the picture stronger and attracts the look on the main thing. I really like this picture, very refined. Great.
ReplyDeletePetrea, you look more Parisian than ever in your pix! To follow Monica (like her I saw on Fb that's today is a special day), I wish you un bon anniversaire!!
The skater boy does looks like he readly to fly away, the ramp almost looks like a sail. So brave!
ReplyDelete"Happy Easter" to all who are celebrating. I'm in it for the chocolate. ;)
Happy Birthday Petrea! I like your new photo, tres chic.
Congratualtions tall gary
Oh dear, my eyes are tired. I seriously needed to edit my last entry. Sorry about that. Goodnight everyone. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the birthday wishes! I love birthdays. Since mine falls on a holiday this year it feels like everybody's taking the day off for my sake! Very festive.
ReplyDeleteSkate parks are fun to sit and watch the talent. This was a great pic Eric!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Petrea! I LOVE the new profile pic, especially when you look at it large. It makes the words, "Objects in Mirror May Be Closer Than They Appear" that much more appealing!
ReplyDeleteAlso, "Happy Easter" to those who celebrate! May your bunnies be hopping and all your eggs be chocolate.
Thanks, Michael. I'm glad you like it. I needed a change. You, too, look very jaunty. Like apres ski.
ReplyDeleteEric, I've taken another look at this photo and another thing strikes me about it besides the free flow quality, the fabric, the sail. It's the simplicity. There are so few elements: the "track," the athlete, and the skateboard. That's it. Or so it would seem. But then you've also got sky, wind, movement, even the sound of the skateboarder's wheels on cement (or whatever the surface is). There's so much in this simple picture! It's a good thing you didn't add color, too, it would have been overwhelming.
Louis la Vache would like to interrupt this comment thread to make a shameless pitch for "y'all" to come visit his new-inspired-by-Eric photo blog: SF Bay Daily Photo
ReplyDeletewww.bayphoto.blogspot.com
Louis la vache i'm so excited! Yay another one. I'll be over soon.
ReplyDeletePetrea Happy Birthday! Mine sometimes falls on Easter Day and it's FUN! You'll have eggs AND boxes of chocs - great.
I MUST use black & white more. I always forget. Eric it's a better photo each time i come here.
Louis La Vache I'm on my way!
ReplyDeleteJoyous Easter to you Eric. Love your site.
ReplyDeleteAnother amazing shot!
ReplyDeleteEric i'm curious; how many shots do you take before you choose one you are happy with?
ReplyDeleteCoucou, brilliant capture of the moment... You never fail to amaze me whenever I visit your blog. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteJoyeux Paques to all of the PDP "voyeurs"!! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of an old bumper sticker one would see in CA..."skateboarding isn't a crime"!
Happy Easter...Spring has Sprung..at least here in SF!
monsieur la vache...Good Idea! I'll go there!
Lynn, your birthday must be soon. Or have we missed it? When is it?
ReplyDeleteNothing like catching a "cement" wave...another great photo, Eric! These parks are incredibly popular here in the Mid-USA among the teens and younger set. I'll stick to walking.
ReplyDeleteI love the variety of your photos--never know what to expect and that keeps me coming back for more!
ReplyDeleteMichael, I took it with a rather wide angle (and forgot that the Iso was set to "night", but that's another story...)
ReplyDeleteThanks Justine, I like the "infinite" impression you get from it.
Tall Gary, thank you too ;) Actually I took several pics of this guy and he really was amazing.
Yes Petrea a lot of people took off for this long weekend. Which I like because everything slows down during these periods. I like your new photo ;) It's your birthday today?! Joyeux anniversaire to you...
Funny cause skate boarders always look like the kind of guys who are more interested in relationships with concrete ramps than with actual people. Not true then...
Claire "you could definitely have fun with this in photoshop." I agree ;)
Crazy Daisy. Was he crazy about Daisy?!
Actually Tanya, I thought skate boarding was not big anymore, but apparently they build ramps and facilities so I suppose there is still demand.
Well Monica, honestly I'd love to do that, but i CANNOT picture myself doing it. I'd break my bones believe me...
Actually Guille, I try to use B&W as little as possible, because like I said here last year or so, I think B&W photos are "lazy" photos. Sometimes, you have no choice, it just looks better in black and white.
Welcome to the family Louis la vache! It's a great honor to have you among us.
Lynn I take thousands of photos and sometimes I trash them all! And, I'm NEVER happy with what I post. But that's me, and it applies to almost everything in my life!!
Pipini ;)
Tonton, spring has sprung. That means you can now have dinner outside without freezing your derrière off?! Or is it still as cold as when we had the PDP party last June?
Coltrane "I'll stick to walking". Yeah, me too!!
Recently, I saw the same kind of ramp, covered by snow, for snowboarders ; that is very spectacular, too. I always hope it is not too risky for them ... Going higher and higher : a good motto for these champions!
ReplyDeleteBesides all the movement I feel in the picture, it is the tension of the moment that you captured so well.
ReplyDeleteTo answer Petrea's question above: I wanted to be first because when there is a new posting of Eric's with zero comments it gives one a chance "To go where no one has gone before," but I feel uncomfortable being lauded for that. Better to let someone like Michael take the prize.
ReplyDeleteSo Eric you're a perfectionist? Well, your goal is constantly achived then because for us you're photos are always perceft!
ReplyDeleteI'm very similar, Eric. Thank goodness for digital huh.
ReplyDeleteWhy ME Tall Gary????
ReplyDeleteNow I understand, Handsome Gary. I mean, Tall Gary.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that I could clarify that unclear comment for you Petrea. Hmm. Yes, a view through the lookinglass can be a kind of wonderland. I like the new photo.
ReplyDeleteMarch 23:
Happy Birthday Petrea
Michael, credit for first comment has been getting a bit technical since around February 24 as you will see if you begin reading comments from that date. I think you won this day, 22 Mars 2008.
Petrea I sent you a very funny birthday card on FB. Look for it on your notifications box.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone, for the birthday wishes. The Beatles! Thanks, Tall Gary. And Monica, the card is hilarious. I'm way behind in Facebook and will probably never catch up but I opened it and laughed out loud. Loved it.
ReplyDeleteGreat - and no blurring! :-D
