Evelyne in Red by Cooper

You're looking at a sculpture by Randy Cooper, a Californian artist whose work I love. He makes sculptures in iron wire mesh, which project "Shadow Sculptures" on the wall. It's very creative and very interesting to look at. I took this photo in a gallery on the Place des Vosges, but his work can be found in various places.

  1. Very cool materials use! I can see why you admire his work. Great shot of it, too, Eric.

  2. Randy seems to enjoy keeping the curves in his sculptures, which is applaudable. It reminds me of a female superhero, if only she had a cape and the rest of her bits!

    {I'm almost scared to say, "Woohoo, Kim GF!! but ... "Woohoo, Kim GF!!}

  3. it reminds me of the curves of the african sculptures of wood statuettes exhibited in paris at the musee dapper [metro etoile]. i though they were nice [r...sorry eric]. ingeborg

  4. O.K. Carrie, final ruling. Two full lines. If you have a picture, your two full lines will be shorter than my two full lines as I have no picture and more room to fill. Gotta keep this clean and simple, and I need judges in my absence!!!!
Must dry clean my robes in case I get a future call from Obama about an opening on the Supreme court. I also have an Ede and Ravenscourt wig ready for the UK in case there are any barrister openings.

  5. Wow this one jumps out of the portal. Very striking piece.

  6. OK, hot tip for the day: put a big pic on your profiles ;)

  7. So, Shell Sherree, I think that makes you GF today!

I took a photo of these when I was on the Place des Vosges, too. I liked them as well - quite the clash with the 17th C.

  8. Shell -- pic tip duly noted. And congrats to you, it would seem. Guess you'll be wearing a shapely wire-mesh crown, eh?
Eric -- I love Cooper's work too. My lovely friends who have this view from their place also have one of his sculptures to look at whenever they want. I have art-envy.

  9. eric,
I photographed some mesh figures at the Place des Vosges in Nov. They didn't seem as vibrant as this but I am pretty sure they were the same artist. I loved them and your photo is wonderful!

  10. Uh oh, is it Groundhog Day? Thank you so much to Caro and Alexa and I don't want to appear ungracious especially as it would be the first time I scored GF, BUT... I'm so sorry, I'm still confused. When we're in the comments window, Kim's comment takes up 2 lines - does praise for Eric not count as part of the 2 lines? If it's mine, I hereby bequeath it to Kim with my heartiest congratulations, and I'll try again when I finally get a grip on it all!

    {And Alexa, WOW again over that view.}

  11. Well..... Yes, Shell Sherree, it seems that's yet another way to look at it! Three sentences, none of which are one line long, but all of which total two lines. I have no idea if praise for Eric counts or not!! I am kerflummoxed.

I think its best if I just give up! But, may the games go on. : )

  12. I'll admit to being a tad confused about the rules at this point, but it's so much fun to play!
Eric --are you enjoying your time w/M & Mme B? (Oh, wait—that's a dumb question. Of course you are!)

  13. Rules? We don't need no shtinkin' rules!

It would be interesting to learn how this artist works. My guess is that he creates a mold around which he forms the mesh.

    M. and Mme. Benaut, my best wishes to you.

  16. Blogger Bibi a dit...

I think these GF rules are SO dumb. If anyone makes rules, it should be Eric. Two full lines,, says phx-cdg. Seem to remember she said before "two sentences." Not the same thing, so she doesn't have 'the rules' straight either.

--I find this sculpture intriguing, thought not for me, but I'd like to see it up close.

  17. Hey Eric, how's the Down-Under? I just watched a really great romantic comedy "Over the Hill" (1992) It touches so many points in life. Exciting to see Australia and to follow the story line in this this envirionment.

  18. Love the sexy sculpture. BTW, my name is Lois-Evelyn Marcella Simon. And I am sooooo into the color RED. My bedroom is RED. My father had a favorite sister named Evelyne so that is why I received that name. Anyway, enough about me. About Paris...after all, this is Paris Daily Photo -- not Australia -- hehe ;^). I hear you have a very sexy American stripper in town, Paris -- she's called Dita Von Teese. She reminds me of the classic Bettie Page. I did not know that Bettie died recently. She is such a sex icon.

  19. Alexa and Jeff and all the gang.

Nice to read your comments and to see that Paris still plays while the cat's away !!

Eric has made friends with kangas, wallabies, koalas and poteroos.

Bet you have never heard of a poteroo !!

I tried to upload a 25 second movie to show him to you all, but Blogger thought it had too many megabytes.

Demain j'essayerai de faire un film plus court.

  20. Bibi, I remember your unhappiness before,as I scratch my head in puzzlement. Again I say, this is all voluntary, one does not have to play ! Let's go back to having fun!!!!!

  21. I'm so sorry, you guys, I feel like I touched off a firestorm. From here on in I keep my big mouth shut. GF is supposed to be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lois, you can see a tribute to Bettie Page at the following site (http://smallglassplanet.blogspot.com/2008/12/drive-in-saturday.html)

  23. Ah, Lois, Dita von Teese is amazing. And all on her toes like a ballerina! Unfortunately, she will not be in Paris when I'm there. I'll need to track her.

    M. Benaut: Please ask Eric to tell us when the film is ready. I don't chase other blogs besides PDP. My loss, perhaps, but as I just spent two hours paying bills, I'm sick of the computer for today!

  24. Petrea!!! People who need clairification or who are there to help are never bad guys! Apology not accepted!!!!

Game players, and there are lots of us around the world which makes it exciting, 2 full lines relevent to the picture. Alexa, if I can embarass her, is the gold standard.

Anyone else who becomes first and wasn't playing the game... great, you are first, but in a different way, no GF crown. Make up your own secondary game if you'd like!!!!!!!!!!LOL . GFers, don't forget to say how you top your crown for the day, if you wish.
LET'S GO back to having FUN! bisous, bisous ,mawh, mawh.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Petrea - please don't feel guilty just because you happened to post first. (And, I at least am not thinking 'firestorm' - more like confusion.) A number of people had different ideas of what the rule was and now the confusion's cleared up. That said, if anything I said sounded firestormish, I'm not liking that either and here's a giant bucket of water all over any embers!

GF is only a game. We PDPers are what count. So, I'll chime in with the others and say, yes, lets all have fun and whoever wants to compete can join in the race. May the fastest fingers be golden!

  26. I'm confused. There seem to be some comments missing that others refer to but that I cannot see. Or perhaps they were deleted. I can't see an apparent first comment by Carrie or Petrea or Bibi re. GF that are referred to by others. So, if my comment was first and contained two lines, was I GF or did I wear a delusional crown all day? What was the controversy, since I can't see these other comments and it leaves blanks in the conversation for me? All in fun, and no worries, just curious.

I came back to post some information about a photographer's shot that I think Randy Cooper may have used for the inspiration of this piece. I had thought the figure highly exaggerated until I saw this photo. Eric you mention Cooper projects shadows of his figures, so this photo may be the inspiration: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Helmut-Newton/Helmut-Newton/e/9783829601399/?itm=5

  27. PHX - I was writing while you posted - it just took me a really long time, cause I wanted to get it right! I'm glad you feel that way, too. I'm also really glad that our little community can withstand these kinds of things with good will towards one another. : ) I think our fingers aren't the only things that are golden. : )

  28. Kim - this was a conversation that began yesterday, so, I bet that's why it didn't look like there was a beginning today. I have to say though, I like the idea of a delusional crown so much, that I think there's a lot of potential there!! : ) I for one, have probably been wearing a delusional crown for years and didn't even know it! No wonder I get these strange headaches. ;}

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mwah is right, PHX! Oh and Kim, I love the delusional crown! You were most definitely GF today, no delusion there.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ha! Delusional crown....that description is hysterical and I think I will steal it and use it in my private life.
Nicely put about our community, Carrie!!

  31. Would love this in my apartment Eric! Maybe when you're back from eating kangaroo ice cream over at M Benaut's blog you can go buy it for me! Loved the "meshy" comment!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh, that's a relief ~ I hope I didn't exacerbate things and sorry if I did; I was just trying to understand.

I reiterate my original, "Woohoo, Kim GF!", no delusions required but ever so funny!

    ReplyDelete
  33. M. Benaut - I forgot to ask -

What's a poteroo and will Eric be able to get some poteroo ice cream to bring back for Michael?

(PS - can you include the pronunciation, too?!)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well I think her bum's a big low-slung for my liking...........

    ReplyDelete
  35. a BIT low-slung I meant!

  36. Carrie,

A Poteroo is a marsupial animal that is native to Australia, about the size of a large rat.

    This is what Wiki says:-

The marsupial family Potoroidae includes the bettongs, potoroos, and two of the rat-kangaroos. All are rabbit-sized, brown, jumping marsupials and resemble a large rodent or a very small wallaby.

  37. Doesn't sound like it would make very good ice cream.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Definitely needs fudge sauce and a cherry on top, Petrea.

    {And yes, I am utterly kidding...}

    ReplyDelete
  39. Poteroidae, poteroidae, poteroo-ti-doo,
With fudge sauce, whipped cream and a cherry, too....
Skibbledy, dibbledy, woobledy oobledy, bonkety, boo!

    : )
