Dance heaven
Last night (Thursday) I had dinner near the opera and on my way back home, I passed by Repetto, a shop dedicated to ballet outfits which is very famous in France. I've always known it but I never really knew who this Repetto was. I started investigating, and found out that she was the mother of a famous French dancer called Roland Petit. She started making ballet shoes after WWII, at the request of her son. Since 1999 the brand is in the hands of Jean-Marc Gaucher who extended the range of products sold and gave it an international reputation. In 2006, half of the revenues still came from ballet shoes.

Stunning!
ReplyDeleteIs the store still around? Good to know. I tried to look for it online but was under the impression that the store was closed. Good to know!
ReplyDeleteRepetto has an international reputation, so I expect anyone having done ballet dancing semi-seriously might know the name, even on the other side of the planet?
Did you hear it? Did you hear me GASP?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
Wonderful light. If you look at the photo a certain way the tutu looks like angel's wings. (Maybe I just have angels on the brain since I just watched "Angel A."
ReplyDeleteAWE *STUNNING* I can imagine some really amazing ballerina dancing on stage with this tutu on.The stage lights just hitting so right and it sparkles. This photo is very close to my heart btw.
ReplyDeleteI used to dance for 10 1/2 years!! <3
When I was a little girl.I would always look up to the older girls dancing there pas de deux. It was so magical & always dreamed of one day being able to dance my own.
Eric,
You already know I love to look at your photos of the Eiffel Towr, but I think this one my favorite!
Repetto is one the best!!
Eric
ReplyDeleteLovely post
Thank you
Marina
Ohhhhh this took my breath away! How beautiful. I adore it. I want it. I want to be thin enough to get into it. lol. Soooooo pretty. I used to love wearing ballet shoes even when not dancing. This is such a dreamy pic to go to bed on....:)
ReplyDeleteThose steps at the website - really bring back some memories of when I was much, much younger! Not that I could ever dance like those lovely girls though. Sigh.........this is such a lovely post Eric thank you.
ReplyDeleteEric, this is a wonderful photograph. You composed it beautifully and now all I can think about is seeing this place for myself. The light is perfect as well. It's magical. Oh my!
ReplyDeleteV
So pretty! The chandeliers behind it make it even better.
ReplyDeleteCristy: 10.5 years!! Wow!
ReplyDeleteI got kicked out of ballet class myself (I just was too clumsy at it, not my thing at all, so they didn't want to waste any time with me) but I still used to fantacize about it for a while. I used to "borrow" my sister's ballet toe shoes and try to walk in them on my toes when nobody was looking. I put her tutu on, once, but it was really too itchy. The shoes, on the other hand, were kind of fun ;) Now every time I see toe shoes, whether it's a decoration or whatever, I think of my sister's shoes...
Repetto brings back tons of childhood memories. Thanks for that Eric. :) I think people here in California know Repetto, too.
Oh, absolutely gorgeous, Eric! It's almost a black and white, too ~ and those little blinks of chandeliers in the background complete it beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI believe in the sacred as well as the profane while in Paris. The sacred is my cultural pursuits, and the profane is my SHOPPING!
ReplyDeleteRepetto has for years outfitted French women with ballet type flats like Audrey Hepburn wore. They can be found in Bon Marche as well as the store you found on, Blvd des Capucines?
Eric -- GF Lydia said it: Stunning! Lots of ballet envy here tonight, and some tender memories (I was a baby ballerina too). I also have a great memory of seeing Roland Petit perform. He was in his '40s and he was a-mazing! (So was his wife, Zizi Jeanmaire.)
ReplyDeleteStunning photograph! You have such an aesthetic eye...
ReplyDeleteOh, Eric! What a lovely photo. The white against the dark background makes a stunning image.
ReplyDeleteBecoming a ballerina is a dream of many little girls and this snap underscores the dreaminess of the dance!!
I LOVE this photo. It represents something that I hold so dear. I have loved ballet since the moment I was born and I shall dance until my last breath! Gina
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and interesting information about Repetto. I'd love to see this shop.
ReplyDeleteAhhh Gina...you know I'll always remember your ballet shoes hanging on the wall at university...my tiny dancer...
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your new picture, Michael!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter, everybody!
ReplyDeleteOoooh Michael such a wistful, wonderful phrase. You're making me even more boo-hooey now (I just watched Shall We Dance?).. :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful- looks like something from a fairytale.
ReplyDeleteIndeed striking! Grew up with the ballet as my younger sister danced in several ballet companies for many years. One either loves the ballet or ... one doesn't understand it. :-) This photo is as exquisite as April in Paris...or listening to Count Basie and His Orchestra's version of it if one can't be there. LOL
ReplyDeleteLooking at the tutu, I'm also hearing "My Satin Doll".
ReplyDeleteColtrane...sigh......:)
ReplyDeleteHope you're going to Zazzle this, Eric?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo...reminds me of when I was young and girls wanted to be ballerinas and nurses. Now they want to be...???
ReplyDeleteMichael..very interesting photo!! Is that you behind those "Foster Grants"???? LOL!!!!!
Thank you everyone, I must say, I love this photo too ;) Merci Repetto.
ReplyDeleteZazzle Lynn? Not a bad idea... Thank you.
Eric you know you can Zazzle me anytime ;) lol
ReplyDeleteInteresting they used to have a shop in NYC and I loved wearing their pointe shoes. Glad to hear that they're still around.
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely gorgeous! Oh for my dreams of being a ballerina!!
ReplyDeleteYup 10.5 years!! mmmm I loved it dearly but sadly I gave it up a very long time ago.I wanted to be a cheerleader in h/s.So of course could not do both and my mom made me decide.Over my better judgment I chose cheerleading. TO this day I wish I never gave it up =(
ReplyDeleteTomate. lol that's a funny story I'm sorry you got kicked out.I've never heard of a dance company kicking you out b/c you were too clumsy.
ReplyDeleteWell at least you have a funny story to tell to your kids or whomever.
I still have every single pair of my point shoes <3
Such a pretty tutu and a beautiful photo Eric. The chandeliers in the background add to the elegance. I do admire ballet dancers, none more so that my stepdaughter Jodie who entertained me for years.
ReplyDeleteMy girlfriend used to be a dancer, and when we stayed at the Park Hyatt a few weeks ago, the Repetto store was just up the street. The display we saw was the same one you photographed, and at night it was very beautiful! And the whole wall full of ballet slippers is quite a sight...
ReplyDeleteHiya Online marketer! Want to tell that much like your website quite a bit.
