City Daily Photo police: "And you think we're going to believe you took this photo in Paris?". Eric: "I swear, Officer, I did, in the 8th arrondissement!" Pfff... I did not end up in jail, but you've gotta say,it's hard to believe, isn't? This pagoda used to be an old Louis-Philippe style building that a yound student that became an art dealer at the begining of the 20th century (Mr Ching Tsai Loo,) had turned into a pagoda. Very impressive. You cannot really visit it, but if you happen to go to the Jacquemart-André museum, well it's not very far: it's located at 48, rue de Courcelles.
The thing that makes it least believable about it being in Paris is the color. One does not really expect to see a pink building while strolling the streets of Paris.

I have yet to visit that museum and this unusual building is even more reason to one day visit. I will add it to my list for next year.

ReplyDeleteWe have a pink building a little like this in Tewkesbury, though it's Tudor English as opposed to Chinese. This is lovely! Great angle too.
It's a really huge contrast between this pagoda and the rest of the buildings, not only for the architecture but the color. It's like a field full of daisies with a single rose in the middle!

ReplyDeleteI confirm this pagoda is in Paris: it is about 200m from where I live (when not in Cheverny!), and I'm passing by almost everyday.
... And no, it's not in Chinatown ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat is quite surprising! It looks like they considered color coordination in the landscaping plan, as those trees appear a similar tint to the building.

ReplyDeleteI have some snapshots of the pink pagoda, but without the benefit of the Tenin perspective, they are feeble by comparison.
ReplyDeleteRe the Jacquemart-Andre museum, I think it's one of the best in Paris.
The superb art collection or the opulent mansion on their own would be well worth a visit, but together they are just fabulous.
....and why not finish off your visit by relaxing with a pot of hot chocolate and a delicious cake or pastry in the sumptuous surroundings of the dining room, or, weather permitting, on the terrace outside.
Must stop day dreaming and get back to work.
An area yet to be explored by this humble traveler. Next time. Great building.
