Dinner out!
I was having a drink at a terrace near the Saint Michel area last evening, when this all dressed up couple in this shiny original Fiat 500 pop out from nowhere. No doubt they were heading to a chic dinner party somewhere in Paris. I could not help but taking a photo. Aren't they cute? FYI, the (original) Fiat 500 is one of the tiniest cars you can find (length: 2.97 m (116.9 in) - width: 1.32 m (52.0 in) and height 1.32 m (52.0 in)), it was made in Italy between 1957 and 1975 and you can still see several in Paris (more about it on Wikipedia).

Awwww, it reminds me of when I went to college in Rome!!!! There it was called cinquecento (chinkwaychento--and if you follow my phoenetics, you will have an American accent in Italian!).

ReplyDeleteAwwwwww chweet little car!!
ReplyDeleteI think I read they were going to reintroduce the Fiat 500.
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought the Mini Cooper was cute. The Cinquecento is the perfect car for city driving (and NYC power parking!)
ReplyDeleteMais oui, great for parking...headroom---NOT so much!!! 8^)
ReplyDelete@Oakland DP: FIAT reintroduced the Cinquecento a few years ago. It's but quite bigger than the original one, and (IMO) not as nice..
ReplyDelete... quite like the recent Mini compared to the original one.
Different car + same name + a lot of marketing = commercial success...
I really wonder how you can be so fast to take by mere chance such a good shot while they were moving!
ReplyDeleteHope they had a great evening.
I'm noticing in the photo, this is Madam who's driving them to their dinner.
And maybe this was Monsieur who was driving them back!

ReplyDeleteWelcome to my blog: http://images-n.blogspot.com
I used to have a car like this too believe it or not. Except when I had it, it was called a HotWheel.
ReplyDeleteBeaten by... this car, in Santa Monica, CA.
ReplyDeleteKindly emailed to me a moment ago by George!
You are all making me laugh! PDX, with your American accent in Italian, Michael with your Hotwheels and George via Eric (or Eric via George), with that funny picture in Santa Monica! (I'd know it anywhere. This is how people are dressing in the LA area these days.)
ReplyDeleteI had 2 500 in my life. The first when was 18... Ah how many remembers !!! --- PHX your American accent in Italian is wonderful :-))
ReplyDeleteThere is a car even smaller than the one you posted, ERic. I was looking for it on FB but I can't find the album anymore ... grrr.. hang ong, brb.
ReplyDeleteLike the Picnic poll on the right Eric except it says there are 372 days left to vote. I'm guessing people know you mean THIS May...
ReplyDelete@Petrea "I'd know it anywhere. This is how people are dressing in the LA area these days." really?!
ReplyDelete@Frabrizio. I suppose when you're Italian, having a Cinquecento is compulsory!
@Tomate aren't you thinking of Iseta?
@Michael. OK, OK, I fixed it Pffffff!
How cute!! The partiers, the car...and all of you! So do the Parisians have a nifty name for this little ride? And where in the world does "nifty" come from??!! :-)
ReplyDeleteOK, internet says nifty may be a short form of magnificat(of theatrical origin)from the 19th C. So, clearly it applies to the car, its occupants, all the PDPers and, of course, notre roi, Eric!

I have one of the new 500's. Although it is not a big car, it looked gigantic when I parked it next to one of these little beauties.
ReplyDeleteEric, it's true. Southern California is soooo casual. I like the fashion and style of Paris.
ReplyDeleteIf you were dining on the terrace of a restaurant, did you like it?
ReplyDeleteNice car , very old!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood days!!!
TOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is, in a word, adorable. I might have to rethink the whole, "getting a Mini Cooper when the kids are gone" idea. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your awesome resources
ReplyDeleteEric, yes, the Isetta is one of them. I can't find the other one.

It will be nice to have cars design like that, because it will be convenient to park.
