Passage du Plateau
I already showed you the narrowest street in Paris once (the rue du chat qui fume), and now here is the narrowest Passage in Paris (1,50 meter wide). I found it but pure coincidence while I was touring the streets of Paris to take photos prior to my little vacation time. It's located in the 19th arrondissement, but there is not much I could find about it. Its name even has nothing original as, it's derived from the street name where it starts. Funny though, I wonder how movers do when then have to carry a large piano down there?!

What a great shot. So very Paris. But I thought that cat was fishing, not smoking.
ReplyDeleteWOW! This is by far the narrowest street I've ever seen! One thing I remember about being in Paris is the hotel elevator in the hotel we were staying at in St. Germain.
ReplyDeleteWe couldn't get but one bag and one person in it at a time. HA Small, but cozy!
Kris
Yes, Mrs. V., the cat was peche-ing I think. I'm not sure what Eric has been fuming while he's off on vacation! Unless the cat was really angry. ;-)
ReplyDeleteQ: why this is a passage and the RdCqP is a street? I doesn't look like a car could fit down either one. I did think, perhaps wrongly, that passages were all covered.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Eric was thinking of Lord Tubbington. Brittany's cat might well fume in English or French.
ReplyDeleteEric,
ReplyDeleteExcellent perspective, by framing the man at the end of the street. It enhances the narrowness of the passage.
I think there is an ordinance requiring that all residents play the flute. No pianos.
ReplyDeleteI thought the cat was smoking, too, but I couldn't find that. I found the Wikipedia entry for the fishing cat.
ReplyDeleteYou waited for this shot, didn't you, Eric? You waited until a man walked by at the end of the passage. It was worth it.
I hope you're enjoying your vacances.
There is le chien qui fume restaurant, isn't there? Cats fishing, dogs smoking...love those Paris pets.
ReplyDeleteLove your new photo, Petrea!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carrie. Pro shooter, here in Pasadena. She did a great job.
ReplyDeleteI have a photo of the cat-street sign in the 5ième but I have never seen this passage... The cat was definitely not smoking
ReplyDeleteMy sweet niece gave me a "rue du chat qui peche" plaque for the Paris theme park that is my house. It sits in the kitchen and is regularly knocked over by the chats qui ne pechent(?) pas who live here. I will confess to an "Attention chat lunatique" plaque bought in the weird little all cat store on the rue du chat qui peche too.
ReplyDeleteLet me just squeeze in here to say I think I see Inspector Clouseau at the other end of this passage. He's looking for the smoking cat...or is it the smoking gun? ;-)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm....I should probably lay off the Brie and Affinois if I want to squeeze down that "passage" the next time I am in Paris! ;-)
ReplyDeletenice photo!
ReplyDeleteWhen I went to the street,
it was under construction unfortunately.
at last I could see it through your photo.
by the way, i think there are two narrowest streets at Paris.
One is "rue du chat qui peche" you know,
and other is "Passage de la Duee"(20e).

Hey, that shot came out real well!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's definitely rue du chat qui peche (although to be completely honest, in that particular neighborhood, I'm sure that cat has had plenty of second hand smoke *cough* *cough* if you get my drift (no pun intended) ;)
There is a convention for street naming in Paris but I really don't know what it is. There are some really small streets in the center of Paris, only because they are original. There are some in the 4th, 5th, 6th, 1st, and I'm sure many other places but I only know of those.
Ooops, that was ^ Tomate Farcie
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling Eric has enjoyed some smoked fish...perhaps some delicious salmon...on his vacances....thus the Freudian Slip! 8^)
ReplyDeleteSuperb! The list of contenders for narrowest this-or-that in Paris is getting about as long as the Rue de Vaugirard!
ReplyDelete@Sab: LOL !!! Well seen :)
ReplyDeleteThe level of knowledge referring to Paris is always stunning in the comment box!
Flore
LOL, Coltrane—and all the rest of you clever people!
ReplyDeleteGood one, Eric. Were you on your way to the park?
This is intriguing! How did you resist traveling down it just to see where it went?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't possibly live here.
ReplyDeleteHow would I take my pet elephant for a walk?
I narrowly avoided missing today's photo....
ReplyDeleteSean
Oooops OK, I'm sorry. I was a bit in a rush when I wrote this caption a,d yes you're right it's Le chat qui pêche (I did get confused with Le chien qui fume ;-)
ReplyDeleteBTW I'm glad Pickled Parrot spotted that "by framing the man at the end of the street. It enhances the narrowness of the passage"! Because I had to wait a long time before someone showed up and I was quick enough to pull the trigger on time!
Now on my way to... You'll see in tomorrow's caption ;-)
Funny pet Drummond ! You know elephants are a symbol of wisdom in Asian cultures and are famed for their memory and intelligence! Just be aware of him/her in a china shop ...
ReplyDeleteHope everything is going well for U in the US.
Stéph.
