Roller Skater
Surfboarding has become so popular along the past decade or so that the Paris town hall had to dedicate spaces to this sport, like they do with tennis, basket ball or football for instance. Thus, if I counted them well on the map, there are 14 roller skate and skate board training facilities throughout Paris and they are rarely empty, especially when it's sunny outside, like at the moment. I took this shot at one of them, at Quai de Jemmapes in the 10th arrondissement, by the Canal Saint Martin. I wish I were a little younger; I would give it a try ;-)

Skated there with some Parisian and English friends in the Autumn of 2006. There's a basketball court behind it too right? We ate pizza across the way and saw the homeless encampment. One of the best days of my life.
ReplyDeletecool pipeline pis well done eric
ReplyDeleteCool skateboarder.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, Eric! It looks as of he is grasping the globe from the lamp post in his left hand!
ReplyDeleteI thought this was in the Parc de Bercy, and then you tell me there are 14 of these places around the city! I'll have to open my eyes a bit more. I was pretty into rollerblading a few years back - I'll have to get back into it when my son's ready - I guess 18 months is a bit too young yet...
ReplyDeletewarning Eric! it's not as easy as it looks! my husband got a skateboard for a xmas present last year and on its first outing came home limping and spent the following 6 weeks in plaster! Apparently when you turn 50 all senses can be eliminated! LOL
ReplyDeleteAs for me I like this kind of sport very much.
ReplyDeleteYou mean skate boarding, not surfboarding, of course!
ReplyDeleteHow colorful! We have a small skatepark on the outskirts of town, but I think I'm not flexible enough to try that anymore! It does look fun though.
ReplyDeleteSkateboarders are really impressive ; I like very much looking at their huge performances. When I happen to see them, this is delightful.
ReplyDeleteFascinating. Not less.

I'm not to sure I would want to even try this sport? You would have to have pretty good balance. I see them all the time here and when they jump and try to get the board to flip I've seen some have some pretty mean falls.

Hi Eric. Just wanted to say I really like your blog. I was researching a trip to Paris (came home on Sunday) when I came across your blog. I liked it so much I went through every photo! It even inspired me to start up my own Daily Photo which has since been added to the DP community.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration :)
I much prefer them in these small parks then on the steps of every building in town by us....

The "sport" has come a long way from attaching two halves of a roller skate onto a piece of wood.
ReplyDeleteI always wonder how the board stays right under their feet when they leave the ground. :~} Eric, were you over there visiting with Guille?
ReplyDeleteBig fan of the blog, but want to help with your (excellent) English. Surfboarding is not used - people who take a surfboard into the ocean are surfing. People who use a body board are sponging. Skateboarding or skating may be used per the comment above. By the way your English is much better than my francais. Your photography is also inspiring. Keep it up!
