Not in my name

France recently experienced a terrible event: Hervé Gourdel, a 55 year old French citizen was kidnapped and beheaded the next day by so called Muslims in Algeria. To show their support and condemn the execution of this manman, hundreds of "real" Muslims gathered yesterday near the Grand Mosque. "We French Muslims say no to barbarism, stop to terrorism," said Dalil Boubakeur, head of the French Council of the Muslim Faith. We kinda knew that already, but it's better to express it loud and clear!

  1. It is good that they come out in strong opposition. A shocking event that made the news here.

  2. I've never believed that Islam supports barbaric behavior. Many in the U.S. think it does, a view that was promoted in the recent past for political purposes. Because of this, itt is good that Muslims are making it clear that they do not believe in murder. -Jeff

  3. Jeff's right, Islam has gotten a bad name in the States. We can help (as you do here today, Eric) to spread that word that the majority of Muslims are peaceful, good people.

  4. I am so pleased that Muslims are coming out and condemning this barbarism. Same in England, a local taxi driver has been kidnapped by IS and the local Muslims are loudly protesting, holding vigils etc. Ironically, this is uniting the different religions and also people with none, in this area. Awful awful thing. Condolences to family and friends of the Herve Gouedal and all the French people.

  5. The website of the Muslim Community in Portugal was hacked. A message of hatred was shown on top of the homepage. The Muslim leaders condemn it, of course. Shame it took 4 days for the message to be deleted.

  6. In fact here, a lot of people are saying that Muslims should not have to claim that they don't support this barbarian behavior, because it's obvious that it has nothing to do with them.

  7. The skewed, distorted worldview of groups like ISIS, the Taliban, or Al-Qaeda in terms of their interpretation of Islam are as realistic as the whackjobs that make up that Westboro Baptist Church sect in America are for Christianity: unrealistic.
