NYC PDP Party

Sorry I'm late posting, but you know why. I'm just back from... the NYC PDP party. As for last year in San Francisco and at the Paris gatherings, it's always a pleasure to meet people "for real". We gathered at Pipa (a recommendation of Alexa's), a tapas restaurant very nicely decorated. I had the opportunity to meet very interesting people, with different background and experience. From right to left: Alexa, Doug, Lori, Ming, Mame, Deborah, Elisabeth, Aliya, Charles.
Not to forget Vince, who kindly popped in a few minutes to tell me nice things about PDP ;) and Jessie who came in late and does not show on the photo. I was also touched to receive a call from Jeff (in Mineapolis) and a text message from Thib in Paris for the occasion. I may find it hard to post a daily photo of Paris sometimes, but all this is really rewarding ;)

  1. Hello New York!!!! You guys look fantastic - I gather Eric took the photo? It looks like you're having a wonderful dinner - wish I could have been there.

  2. Ditto what Carrie said! I am always touched by these PDP meetings and look forward to the day when I can be there in person. Thanks for the photo and for this lovely community, Eric!

  3. Ok, so now that I posted and no one else beat me to the punch, I have to say I can't believe it! :) I thought I'd return to a photo and 10 comments. Eric, you still must be on Paris time to be awake! I guess I'll put castanets and a mantilla on my crown in honor of the NY PDP tapas fest. Maybe a tiny little flamenco guitar can top it off. 8^}

  4. I said this on the previous post, but we had a terrific time (I had so much fun I actually gained 20 pounds on the spot!). Seriously, it was great to meet Eric (who did take this picture) and to spend time with old friends and new.
Way to go, GF Carrie—add some tapas to the crown!

  5. Hello! you don't know me but I am a regular reader and yes, your photos and posts are much appreciated. I pop by to see little vignettes of a city I really like as much as I can. So thanks, and keep up the good work. :)

  6. Woo hoo for NY PDP! What a fun looking group! Eric you really do have fans everywhere and I'm glad you're getting a chance to meet more and more people "for real". Alexa it looks like you picked a great place to meet. I met Heather tonight for Mexican food, and we of course talked PDP! Not quite a full-blown SF PDP get-together, but hey. Carrie I agree that you need to add some tapas to the crown!

  7. Sounds like it was a great time Eric and everyone has big smiles to prove it. You may never come back. How on earth hasn't some television station picked up on this fascinating phenomenon - all centered around 1 photo a day?!

  8. Boohoo, if you had only partied past midnight, I could have had the pleasure of meeting the other NYers.(Ihave had the great pleasure of meeting Alexa).
How could you not have had a great time: meeting each other, and the man that made it all possible, ERIC!

  9. Oh, maaaaan! I missed the SF one! Eric, you would really love Mendocino county. It's world class, I promise!

Great to see the NY-ers in any case. Thanks for sharing the fun.

  10. Somewhat tall I may be but when it comes to class this group has it way over my head.

"Tapas?" they might say. "You will never top us." Nor could I aspire to, but it is an honor to share vicariously the pleasure of their company.

Noticing the person on the right the immediate thought that came to mind was that Keith Richards, et alii, must certainly still dream of Alexa's smile. Not that there is a dearth of beaming faces around the table. Who could possibly be the cause of that? Oh no, of course not the photographer! Ha ha.

  13. I only have one question : did Charles behave like the ambassador of french culture and elegance he usually is ? ;o)

  18. It was so nice to meet you Eric. We all had such a fun time last night. It is always lovely to meet other bloggers face to face. I think it inspires me to keep going. I hope you enjoyed your stay in New York and come back soon!

  19. Glad you all had fun. Fun to see everyone's faces. But Eric, they needed you in the middle of them!! Eric, did you let them kiss your ring????

    ReplyDelete
  20. Virginia -- ring-schming! This occasion called for French kisses (no, not that kind)!
(And click on Lori's name to get to her blog and see the great picture she posted of Eric.)

  21. Eric:
Thanks for the honorary mention. Sorry I couldn't stay and enjoy the great company. Keep up the good work.

  23. Eric, how is it to have friends all over the world?! It seems to be quite nice, isn't it?

Mike, "You may never come back"...Please don't say such things! We can't live without our national Eric. LOL

I would have loved to be with you all...Anyway, I'm sure that you were thinking of us. ;)

  24. What fun it was to meet the other bloggers and the Roi himself. Thank you, Eric, for the occasion.

  25. NY NY So good they named it twice! Had to say it. This looks fun. Like the tilt of the shot too Eric. That gap at the far end is my seat I think... Save it for me! I will get there one day.

  26. One good point with these PDP picnics, dinners, etc... is that you always meet lovely people. "In real life" if you attend the event, and through their blogs when you're on the wrong side of the ocean.
In both cases, it's great ;-)
    Thanks a lot, Eric!

  27. Eric or anyone else have any recomendations on places to eat, drink, or see in NYC other than the obvious choices?? My boyfriend and I are going to be visiting NY and Jersey for a few days for a concert and have never been and aren't really sure where we should go. We love the off beat places and live music that most don't consider. Hope your trip was fun...I'm sad we missed you by a couple of weeks!

  28. Those New York bloggers do know how to put out the welcome mat. Glad you enjoyed their company. A great group of friendly people for sure!

  29. Looks fun! I'm glad you guys had the opportunity to meet up!

  30. Good turn-out! No video? ;)

Seriously, it's really pretty cool that you get to meet a lot of your readers while traveling all over the world (or while they travel to Paris from all over the world).

Hello folks from NY! Greetings from the other side of the country!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Guile, YOU have friends all over the world, too, don't you?!!! ;)

  32. I think I'm in love more than once. I would have liked to talk longer on the phone, mon ami, but you had guests! Had I known thay are so cute, I would have (politely) demanded to chat with them. I noticed the Chicago Art Institute on Mame's vid (both the Seurat and the Grant Wood) though it's hard to look at anything other than the guide. Did I also see our Walker Art Center exterior?

Oh, and nice Eric photos, too, on Lori's & Ming's blogs. Good job, folks.

Whew. One hand typing. Hope your flight home is good.

  33. Oh, wow! Looks great! I think daily photo bloggers are probably some of the best people ever. But then, I'm probably biased.

Love your blog, Eric. I used to live in Paris some years ago and your updates keep me in touch.

  34. Thank you all for a lovely evening. It was delightful to meet this lively and passionate group. I found out that I'm a "lurker"...one who views, but doesn't comment. Well, on this 39th anniversary on the birth of the internet, I'm changing my tune. Eric, so wonderful to meet the man who continues to capture the essence of Paris. Safe travels and I hope you make it back to NYC soon.

    Deborah

  36. I wish I was plain on Eric in Paris. Ok, ok, sorry, that was clearly a deliberate Freudian... ;) lol

  37. We all have friends around the world. It amazes me every day. Thanks for this wonderful post. It's a joy to see all your faces. Nice to meet you all.

  40. Looks like you had a smashing great time! Way to go...PDP in NYC! Seriously, cool to see all you tapahappy people in one place enjoying life. Cheers! (even though I'm a late entry...)

  41. Hello everyone from New York! Isn't Eric a darling? HIS group of DP bloggers are bound to be nice - they say that if the guy at the top is good, it filters down - this is clearly a demonstration of it!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm so glad you all had a good time in NYC! Eric, glad you're home safe as well, since I'm posting a few days late myself, I know the future!! Sounds like you had a great time there at Pipa!
