Autumn in Paris

People ask me all the time, "When is the best season to come to Paris?" And I never know what to answer, for there is no "good " season to visit Paris. You do different things in winter than in summer, but you still get to do things. And believe me, at the moment, it's wonderful. Not only do you still get warm temperatures, but you can also see the leaves turning yellow, like in the this photo that I took from one of the highest points in Paris this morning: Menilmontant. I think the church in the background is called Notre-Dame de la Croix. By the way, Menilmontant is also the name of a song...

  1. Autumn in Paris sounds delightful! I've been twice in Spring and once Summer. Autumn has to be next.

Beautiful photo to sit and dream with, Eric!

  3. Beautiful, Eric. Thank you.

My first trip to Paris was in October and it was magnificent.

But someday I want to experience April in Paris - you know, walking through the Bois de Bologne in the rain, smelling the chestnut trees.

  4. Autumn is my favorite season in Paris. The air is cool, the parks are still full of flowers, the museums have new shows, it's chilly enough to enjoy a yummy daube or blanquette de veau, but still warm enough for sidewalk cafe sitting, there's that whole rentree vibe going on. Okay, Eric and I have just made me completely homesick for Paris. When do you other PDPers like to go? I hate summer--too warm, too crowded.

  5. People ask me all the time: when is the best season to come to Paris?

In my opinion, Spring (mid-March through end of June) and Fall (September through mid-November).

  6. Wonderful photo thank you. I am never sure if I prefer autumn or spring in Paris they each have their own charm.

  7. Tomate, those are my favorite months, too! You can also feel a special excitement in the air in Oct. and April.
I had to call in sick last week and missed one of my Paris trips. I am one of those people who get upset when they have to call in sick for what is supposedly called work.
Sooo looking forward to my schedule for Paris in Oct.
PS. If you get American Express Departures magazine, the October edition is totally on France with an emphasis on Paris. ERIC: It mentioned La Cigale Recamier as a restaurant Michelle Obama went to with her children. I can say the saame thing, but I brought YOU in January!

  9. I am back in Paris early and late October to meet a US friend who is visiting for the whole month. Difficult to advise somebody from Florida what to pack - suggested layers (and an umbrella!).

  10. Michael and I, both Floridians, would say that you advised them perfectly! I would just add a scarf to the list, which as Floridians, they assuredly do not own, wool or otherwise.

  11. I love Paris any ole time of the year. I can't talk about it or I get all weepy and grumpy. Great shot today. The leaves were falling at the Palais Royal in July. What's with that???

I had another reason for my visit. I came to see if your Blogger Followers had disappeared. I figured if they ate your Followers there would be hell to pay. I don't see them , but maybe you don't do that. Well pull some strings for the rest of us s'il vous plait. Merci Monsieur! :)

  12. Eric, your photo makes me feel like a little bird sitting high in my nest over Paris. Lovely!

    {Virginia, I don't normally show followers on my blog but I just tried to add them and it showed up blank, so could be across the board - hopefully just a temporary glitch and they'll be right back after this break in transmission. :) }

  15. Any season in Grapeland is just fine avec moi, mais autumn definitely gets the nod. Perhaps I've just been too influenced by the melancholy charm of the French poets of yesteryear (particularly S. Mallarme) to know any better. I do agree wholeheartedly with the Tomate.

  16. shame on me! I dont even remember what seasons I visited Paris. But I was just a teenager and that was 25 years ago. I remember needing a light jacket.

I think any season is a great time to visit Paris!

  19. Lovely pic the leaves are changing here in the UK and colours are wonderful. I have been to Paris in June and stay with a friend in Belleville so have similar views. I like Junes because of the long days and am usually there for the Fete de Music. I have been offered a chance to go back in November this year at Bojolais time.
Thanks for the song I was surprised as the one I was expecting was Maurice Chevalier-March de Menilmontant.

  20. I love every season in Paris.
As I love every photo from Eric...
He always makes me nostalgic and missing Paris sooooo much!!

I´ve been to Paris at least one time in every month.
    I like every season!!
Once I spend 2 weeks in Paris in October and the temperture was like 16-20.
Indian Summer I think it´s called.
    It was the greatest.

In December again for 2 weeks!
Spending X-mas and New Years with friends.

Is there a meeting in that time?

  21. Lovely view, Eric.

I suspect Michael might take issue with your description as 'warm' though! lol......

  22. Hey Suzy Barbie looks fab! She has black hair though? I thought she was always blonde. Did she dye it in Paree? ;)

  23. Although I love the photo Eric, I have to say that Autumn for tourists is better than the Autumn for people living here. We're just back from a sunny summer vacation and there are only 3-4 months to get everything done that was left behind when we were away and to prepare for before December holidays. It can be a stressful time even if it's lovely.

  24. Agree with you PHX...but I'd throw in an umbrella too. We have them in Florida in the back seat of the car for that unexpected thunderstorm we have to run through between the car and Publix, but other than that we don't have the habit of carrying them like I do in Paris. Here you can count on a some rain when the real Autumn comes.

  25. I think what you mean to say, Eric, is that there is no "bad" season to visit Paris! Of course, like the rest of your faithful band of followers, I love it in all seasons—even winter, when it's dark and gray. Glad you're having such lovely autumn weather.

  26. As autumn is the best season it truly stands to reason that this beautiful season would be so wonderful to experience there.

  27. Coltrane, how are you??? I love "Grapeland". That's hilarious.

Shell Sherree, I'm sure Eric has taken care of all that Blogger nonsense for us! :) He's the boss you know.

  28. My first trip to Paris was at the end of May through most of June - the long days are lovely! But next time I want to try the autumn. Thanks for the song, Eric, I shared on Facebook. Love your blog. xo Sara

  29. Michael, once again you have my pity. NOT!

I'm going to agree with Coltrane that any time spent in grapeland is the perfect time. (That's not exactly what he said, but that's what I heard!)

  30. I need a lottery win...or a beautiful rich woman falling in love with me...or wanting to get rid of me so bad she'll support me living in Paris!

  31. I just love the idea of the "daily photo"! If it's ok with you, I am going to add you to my "bloglist"! And do not hesitate to come and pay me a visit!

  34. Although I have a particular soft spot for Paris in May (my first time ever..., it is eclipsed by Paris in late October/early November as that's the first time I took my bride. We go every year around the same time and the place, the air, the cooling temps...all make it magical and ever so romantic....
