Ironing Salmon

Here is a little "haute cuisine" tip for you today. Brought to you by Cyril Rouquet, one of the participants to famous TV cooking Master Chef (and chef at Louvre Bouteille at reu Saint Honoré) that I photographed yesterday at Galeries Lafayette, while he was... cooking tuna and salmon on a Laurstar ironing board with an iron! He had this idea when he was young, while he was living in a small studio apartment with no oven! I tasted it, it's really good - of course the sauce that went with it probably played a role too ;-) I wonder what Julia Child would think of that LOL!

  1. What an idea! Reminds me a bit of car engine cooking (not that I've ever done it). I'm sure you'd want to use a dedicated iron. I can only imagine all your clothes smelling of fish if you did it at home.

  2. I can imagine that it would be a good idea and the meat would sear quite well, but I am with Louise, I would want a dedicated iron for "cooking"! LOL :)

  3. That's fascinating! I would like to try it sometime (eating it, not ironing it :-))

  5. A clever idea, that's for sure. Would I dare to do it? Not sure.

  6. I've not cooked fish with an iron, but a thin spread of butter on the outside surface of two slices of bread with cheese on the inside and covered in aluminium foil makes for a quick and easy grilled cheese sandwich!

  7. I'm sure it works. but still seems like a silly idea. Surely, a hot plate or a microwave is a better idea. I've cooked a whole salmon in the dishwasher. Wrap it in cheese cloth, put on the top rack and of course, don't use any soap. It performs as a very large steamer.

  8. I typed in Recipe for Salmon using an electric iron on my computer and I only got back recipes for salmon used cast iron skillets!!!
Very clever for someone without a kitchen!!!

  9. @PHX "I don't even like ironing my clothes. Ironing FISH? Fugetaboutit." That really made me laugh!

Well, again let's face it, I think it's just a gimmick, something that helped the guy being famous. But it does work, I can testify!
