The largest fashion show in the world!

Like last year and the year before the Galeries Lafayette Department store organized a giant fashion show near their main store, at Boulevard Haussmann. The event would be pretty usual if it weren't for the 400 models that were all amateurs and selected prior to the event among 5 000 (to 8 000?) applicants. Great idea, great event and great place to take photos (see my selection in this little Animoto or view the complete video). Last, but not least, let also thank Samsung Electronics France fro inviting me to this show.

  1. I love everything about this. The photo is beautiful. I love the whole idea of real people as models. And kudos to the brave young man at 0:22 in the Animoto for pulling off the crazy red plaid pants.

  2. Before everyone starts snickering and/or running to the Animoto to see a flasher, by "pulling off" I mean rocking the look.

  3. Merci Eric for the video -- it is great -- I love outdoor fashion shows. The very first one that I saw was by Yves Saint Laurent (a genius in my eyes).

  4. Oh, shoot, Mrs. Vandertramp.

It looks like a great show, and you can't beat the setting! I'll bet the models had more fun than anyone else.

  5. Great. In the video what were the folks with the spray cans squirting?

  8. ERIC!!! Where did the Parisians go ????

Excuse me but I've never seen so many fat people in one place in France - EVER ! This was like an explosion of too many Cheesy Fries or bad fast food from another part of the continent.. HELP!!

I don't want to seem like a snob but I shot fashion for A LONG TIME and I wouldn't waste my film (traditional or digital)... Ggeezzz....

  9. @Petrea " and you can't beat the setting!" I agree, that is why I went there. It's actually between the opera and the Galery Lafayette. Stunning.

"I'll bet the models had more fun than anyone else." Yes, but a lot of them also looked a bit nervous. It's probably not easy to walk on a runway for the first time.

@Cindi " I LOVE the choice of real people for models." yes I think it's a brilliant idea.

@Anonymous "Excuse me but I've never seen so many fat people in one place in France - EVER !" Really? I did not notice. There might have been a few chubby ones, but fat... and a lot of them..; I don't think so!

Like Stefan noticed it, the one in the photo is far from being fat!

  11. Anonymous prompted me to watch your video which I never seem to have time for in past postings.

Thanks to you I saw fashions for humans and on real earthlings and loved loved loved the video. Bravo to France for such a great idea. I hope they take real people of a certain age as it would be a hoot to participate next year. I would just have to stop myself from laughing and having too good a time ? Models do not smile, PHX!

  12. What fun! And it was real people walking the way real people walk and wearing clothes that real people would actually wear (with the possible exception of the guy in the orange tights and white skirt and the woman in the "birdcage" dress!). Looks like you had a great spot to watch (and shoot) from too.

  13. That dress is gorgeous! I would love to be a part of the modeling crew, but afraid I would be "not quite" the body type they'd be looking for. Oh, well, I can enjoy it from afar. :) Thanks for sharing!
