If you're familiar with Paris, you will probably have recognized the Hotel de Ville, that is the Paris town hall, a typical Renaissance revival type of building. But the reason why I took this photo today is because of the piece of art in front of it... A piece by Alain Kirili, made of concrete and gravels, called Rythmes d'automne (autumn/fall rhythms), that you can actually see better on the Paris.fr site . I like it when modern art meets the classic one; it allows Paris to keep its traditional flavor while keeping in touch with the present trends. Now, about this piece in particular, I'm not so sure... ;-)

Initially, I thought the piece a bit depressing...graveyard-like. But after a while, it grows on you. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI like it a lot, and your photo is magnificent.
ReplyDeleteI also like the ongoing art conversions. I'd have to experience this one to appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteArt styles change, so you're going to get this kind of juxtaposition. Reminds me of Buren's columns in the Palais Royal (which I never liked much) and the ultimate (perhaps) example, Pei's pyramids (which I've always liked). Whether you like it or not, you have to love the way Paris incorporates art everywhere, non?
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the way that public art enlivens the area and challenges the observers -- whether we love the art or hate it.
ReplyDeleteI love your photo, Eric. {Nice sign!} While I don't tend to stray too far from the beaten track, mixing it up helps keep things fresh and alive. Have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteIf you want to know how much PDP means to me, I have just finished boarding a flt from LHR to JFK and remembered I didn't see my PDP yet. I even have time to go to the Paris.fr site as I couldn't figure out what the art work was! Thank goodness for foreign SIM cards for the IPad.
ReplyDeleteLove the dramatic photo of Hotel de Ville. Not sure about the art work.
Wow. Looks like a magnificent place. The contrast in your image is tres dramatique.
ReplyDeleteHooray PHX! What a trooper! We may need to give you a new name: PHXPDP
ReplyDeleteHotel de ville looks like a fairy tale castle. Love the photo not sure about the artwork either.
