France: 1 - Brazil: 0!
Thank you very much for your nice congratulations messages for Saturday evening. Yes, we did win over Brazil! Needless to say that the closer we get to the final the more excited the people are. I just went down my street and it was absolutely crazy (I took this photo and a little video that I will post tomorrow morning French time). It's been a long long time since I have seen so many people happy at once. Amazing what football can do... [Update: the video is here]

Good luck to the next two games! It is not too difficult anymore...
ReplyDeleteGreece showed you the way 2 years ago. Nothing is impossible!
Allez - allez - allez!
The French team played magnificently. I love watching that 'old' guy who plays in the middle whose name starts with a Z. The World Cup is not a big deal in America but all the games are televised. The France/Brazil match was on at 2 PM today, and was in high-definition. It was very enjoyable. Also far too hot to go outside here (Texas).
ReplyDeleteThe bad officiating has made the news here, too. They really are bad.
WOW ERIC!
ReplyDeleteYou were REALLY close to that shiny moving metal banana!
Glad you escaped with your life...do you think that crazy valentine-of-a-guy made it? LOL!
Congrats on the "soccer" thingy too...wierd how we're the only country to call it soccer huh?...wonder why? I'll have to Yahoo! it!
Adios!
=)
Ame should look a Wikipedia for the etymology of the word "soccer."
ReplyDeleteAllez les Bleus!
I really does look as if you narrowly escaped being mowed over by that car, though!
Wow, Eric! Congratulations on not getting killed by that car. ;)
ReplyDeleteAll this Texan has to say is: ALLEZ LES BLEUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D
What a wonderful photo! I am secretly (or not so) thrilled France won!!
ReplyDeleteIl pleut ici maintenant et il n'y a plus de parade de partisans de l'équipe de France, mais je viens d'entendre un type qui a crié/chanté "Allez les Bleus" dans la nuit de Montréal.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Eric and your countrymen! Zidane is amazing.
ReplyDeleteYes, floski, but it was Thierry Henry who made the goal!
ReplyDeleteit was a great game...we stayed up late to watch it (the starting time is 3 am in HK) and it's worth it, ZIDANE is the greatest! And I know there'd be a great shot about this on PDP ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting night here last night. Like with any sport, when it comes to the end, EVERYBODY is a fan!
ReplyDeleteLOL when jpmcdonough said... "I love watching that 'old' guy who plays in the middle whose name starts with a Z." By now you will have figured out his name is Zinedine Zidane. Even HE has a page on Wikipedia can you believe it?

Awesome! And I like the photo too.
ReplyDeleteThe video is great Eric! It's exactly how it was out there!!
ReplyDeleteYeah. Congratulations. Of course I mean it ;-)
ReplyDeleteEric - Thanks for the video, I have linked to it from my blog!
ReplyDeleteSame atmosphere at Place de la Bastille!!! Everyone dancing, shouting and smiling !!! even some "strip-tease football dance" on top of van performed by a crazy football supporter in a "Bleu-blanc-rouge" underpants.... ! Incredible atmosphere compared to the gloom of last week before the game against Togo when everyone was complaining about the team... I wish French supporters were more supportive especially during difficult times. Anyhow, Well done Zizou!
ReplyDeleteLove the video! It makes me think that someone should start a video version of PDP, and host it on their own Youtube.com channel.
ReplyDeleteI'm just saying...
Yesterday, after watching England lose in penalty kicks, I pinned my last hope on France. MBH told me I was backing a losing horse but this morning, I got to gloat of croissants and the'! What a wonderful picture of exhuberance! Viva La France!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of course!
ReplyDeleteI heard the cheers and honking on my street but did not go out as I had to get up at 6:00.
I will post some images on my site
www.aphotographerinparis.com
as well.
Brazil is still (and it will be for a long time) the best soccer team ever! They were not good at the world cup 2006, they missed something form de beggining and weren't playing at all against France, that is why France won. They cannot win everytime (nobody can), but Brazil is still the best soccer team of the world and the favourite ever. Let's face it! It was only France lucky day. Don't fool yourselves.
ReplyDeleteThat shot is full of the crazyness of yesterday night. And that red an white guy troubleshooting a yellow "thing" ...
ReplyDeleteI love the picture!
ReplyDeleteBut after seeing the video, I must say ... what a mess!!! Doesn't look like many Parisians got a much sleep that night in that area.
