A Paris Classic
It's a classic, but it's always effective! I took this photo last evening on my way home from the office. I see this almost every night (when it's sunny!) but it always amazes me. FYI, the boat passing through the Pont Neuf is called Le Gavroche and it belongs to one of the bateaux-mouche companies that operate on the Seine. When people email me and ask me "what do you recommend I should do while in Paris?" I always answer: "a cruise on the Seine, preferably at night (but dusk is fine too ;)".

This is such a nice picture, Eric! The bridge, the boat, the Seine, aahhhh, Paris!
ReplyDeleteYou can almost feel the excitement of the people who are taking it in!
Thanks,
Mammie
I agree. Crusing the Seine is a great way to see many of the key monuments in a relaxed setting. Plus now, you can get off and get back on, so there is really no reason not to try in.
ReplyDeleteAs the Pont Neuf, I visit him every time I visit Paris.
that was
ReplyDelete"not to try it.
As to the Pont Neuf, ..."

This is such a lovely photo, Eric. It looks so green and hazy over the Seine as the Parisian August day wanes. I am positively yearning for Paris in the last few days.
ReplyDeleteWhat am I to do, helas, helas, trapped in my lackluster life, with only a window into paradise to look through each day? Why, appreciate that the window is there, of course! Thank you, notre roi!
Now this...this is Paris.
ReplyDeleteMerci!
How lucky you are, Eric (and I love that you appreciate it). And how lucky we are that you want to share your hometown (and your talented eye) with us!
ReplyDeleteI can smell the water, feel the breeze, hear the boat's engine and the traffic along the quai.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Alexa - I also LOVE that you appreciate your city, Eric. It is quite evident - and contagious!
ReplyDeleteI also agree that a bateaux-mouche is a must-do for all visitors. I recommend both the day and evening cruises. In addition, stroll across as many bridges as you can. Don't rush it. Take your time!
The bateax-mouche at dusk, just as the Eiffel Tower begins her happy display of twinkling lights. Ahh... that was my 'I have to live here some day' moment.
ReplyDeleteI never, ever tired of these boat rides on the Seine. I always liked to board about a half hour before sunset so I could see Paris one way in daylight and the other way by night.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am with Alexa and ET Suzy ... Your appreciation of Paris is beautiful and meaningful.
Ah, Wren, I had so many of those! I still have them when I see the photos.
ReplyDeleteSuzy you said it well--it's good that Eric appreciates it too, and shares it with us. Thank you, Eric. I'm impressed that you know the names of the bateaux! I can't even keep the bridges straight.
Love it! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI loved taking these trips. I didn't take one at night though and regret that somewhat. Note to self. :)
ReplyDeletePetrea, I think Eric memorises the lists of all the Paris boat names, bridges etc. every night before he goes to sleep.
ReplyDelete(it also helps when the name is written on the boat).
Does anyone else see a little lion face on the stern of the boat?
What a remarkable shot. I can almost feel the coolness of the shade as the boat slips under the bridge, always welcome on a summer day. I feel as if I am there; and that is a lovely feeling right now.
ReplyDeleteEric your observation is so true. I can't believe the other day I was passing by the Louvre and I really didn't even notice it. I pray I never become accustomed to Paris to the point that I don't notice little, common things such as this.
ReplyDeleteBTW, did I miss something or is "GF" a thing of the past?
ReplyDeleteI/we/all of us just LOVE your classics, Eric. You take me mind traveling right back to Paris every time. Pont Neuf is so beautiful !
ReplyDeleteLast week i watched "Les Amants Du Pont Neuf" for the first time, it's for sure one of my favourite movies from now on ;-)
BTW Lynn, if you promise to come to the picnic next year, I'll take you on a night cruise. Now you just have to show up :-D
ReplyDeleteOh duh! Drummond!
ReplyDeleteA lion face...? It's Aslan! Paris is Narnia!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was just a smiling face, but now I see a lion, too! C'est un bateau-smouche. ;}
ReplyDeletebeautiful! it´s the one thing that i´m gonna do for sure when i´ll be in paris next month!
ReplyDeleteI can remember taking a nite time ride down the Seine and it was freezing out! This was last November, the day before our wedding anniversary, and we were the only two people huddled up on the top deck of the boat. I remember thinking we had our own private boat....and wondering if it would snow!!
ReplyDeleteSean
Michael, the GF talk got on some nerves so I think many people are hesitant to mention it now. (I'll do it next time I get it just for you!)
ReplyDeleteOh, ok ET Suzy. I thought there might have been something...
ReplyDeleteI love Seine pictures. Very nice!
