Back to the rink!

I have a special guest from Ohio at home at the moment and last night... she absolutely wanted to "go to the ice rink located where the famous kiss photo by Doisneau was taken!" So we went. I did not really feel like skating, so I remained on the side of the rink to play paparazzi! I had a blast! My dear visitor is going back to the States tomorrow morning so I just wanted to give her a little tribute on PDP to thank her for coming. BTW, most of you also know the second skater in the photo...

  1. You are such a good sport, Eric—even if you didn't get on the ice. Is that Michael strapping on the skates?

  2. What a great catch of movement! Now, everytime you skate, you will have Paris!

Make sure to bring Paris back with you...

    forever in your heart!

    ;) From another Ohioan!

  3. Yes, I'd recognize that flexed toe anywhere.

Sounds like a fun time! I know your
"dear visitor" will remember it forever.

  4. What troopers you all are. Now where is that rink? I loved seeing the kids at Hotel de Ville.

Have I mentioned today that I miss the living HELL out of Paris. Ooops, pardon my French! :)

  5. What a fun shot and a fun post! The last few nights I've been watching the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in preparation for the Olympics next month. Your post adds to my excitement over (watching) the sport!

  6. I'm so glad Megan got to go ice skating. She almost brought her ice skates, but for some reason there just wasn't enough room!

  7. I like the skates. They look like they have the support of hockey skates but with figure skating blades. I tried figure skates some years ago and could barely even stand up. Great action photo...er, pre-action photo.

  8. And perhaps I need to add a big MERCi to you Eric for suggesting Brébant for our meeting instead of the rink at the Hotel de Ville. I would surely have ended up breaking something major and been laid up at the Val de Grace while I mended! :) I'd love to have stayed on in Paris, but not on crutches!

  9. Of course it's Michael. But tell us, Suzy, how is it you recognize the curl of his toes?

  10. I love this shot Eric, the colors, the lacing up of the skates, the movement, the curled toe...
Seriously, this is one of your great ones!

  12. Had to click on this when I saw it in the portal. Such a fascinating shot with the skate to the forefront, the angles (Tenin angles), the atmosphere, the discretion of it all. Even the excitement because seeing people strapping on skates takes me back years and I want to do it all over again! Thanks for the photography lesson, Eric. Sounds like everyone had a great time.

  13. Makes you want to go over and find out for yourself, donnit Petrea?

  14. Yes, it's me BEFORE. Thank goodness Eric didn't photograph the AFTER! Just imagine a Florida boy on ice skates. That image should keep you going throughout the day. I'm so grateful to my niece Megan who made me do something I haven't done in years.

I'd especially like to ditto "Cupless Bra's" comment. Who wouldn't! LOL

  15. Funny coincidence. I took my daughter and friends skating yesterday. Didn't venture out onto the ice either but took lots of photos.
    Great shot as usual Eric.

  16. I agree, that's a GREAT shot.
It was pretty cold yesterday but not too much. The perfect weather for the ice steadiness and skaters pleasure, I guess.
Well, I would not mind more sun today... as you already skated!

  17. Great photo of getting ready to skate.

    Beautiful blog and happy birthday.

  18. Oh, the air of anticipation!!! {And perhaps a smidge of trepidation.} I'm glad Michael's niece gave him a gentle nudge ~ lovely Paris memories for both of them!!

  19. Love the photo. With the winter we are having this year in heartland of the USA, I need ice skates for my commute to work! ha! I know, ice skating in much better in Paris. sigh.

  20. And the reflection in the wall panel makes it all look like a Manet painting. A dRink at the Folies-Bergere?

  22. Why are you coughing Tomate??? Meghan is A SPECIAL visitor!

I'm sorry to be a bit missing these past days, but I have been really, really, really busy at work. Not very nice.

    Anyway...

  23. Yeah, that didn't come out right either.

I was just implying that you were flirting with your visitor, Eric. Hence the *cough*.

Is it me or it is hot in here? Where are the emoticons when you need them, uh? ;)

  24. Tomate - you leave my niece alone. She is a nice, sweet and innocent young thing. Ok, maybe I'm exagerating, but Eric is nothing but nice to her and she IS special. I miss her already!

  25. Oh, I hope you had a wonderful time! Michael, looks like you were very brave and courageous. :)

Our family just bought skates this year for our local Winter Sports Park rink. Of course, the last time we were there, I got up close and personal with the ice a few too many times! But we had a good time together as a family, and that is the most important thing.

  26. Two absolutely lovely people for a lovely picture... Hope Megan made it ok to Ohio yesterday.

I don't ice skate anymore. I did, once. I was watching kids of 3 and 4 and they were so great on the ice that I was ashamed while following them, trying not to fall. Never again. At least with kids. But I am ready to go with you guys! :)

  27. I love your composition and perspective, and the action in the shot. Your shot is a decisive moment kind of shot itself. Glad you got a little diversion in your busy work week, and that Michael and Megan could hang out with you.

  28. I just love the way Michael curls up his toes - one last stretch before those skates go on. I love ice-skating, it's fun and something I can still do, praise the Lord. Megan looks very sweet to me and I adore her socks!
