I'm just back from a dinner at dear friend's who live in the 7th arrondissement. On the way to their home, I passed by the back of the Invalides and I noted these green statues just to the right of the dome. It's probably a monument dedicated to the WWI soldiers, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I could not help but taking a photo. I love this place at night.
It is a beautiful statue, even though it's all green! Sprig is in the air? Or else in the statue.
ReplyDeleteSpring!
ReplyDeleteNice contrast of the verdigris against the golden dome. It's as if the soldier is standing watch. I have a photo of the tip of the dome taken from my hotelroom on Rue Des Ecoles many years ago. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was that the statue was smooth like chocolate. Now I'm itching for some chocolate. Earlier this week it was bread. Why do your photos make me so hungry?
ReplyDelete*I can answer that myself: they get posted 2 hours before my dinner time.
Invalides never captured my imagination, but this picture is inspirational! Thanks for a new way of seeing it.
ReplyDeleteIt is General Fayolle’s statue.
ReplyDeleteThat's a so beautiful composition. I really love it. Great meeting between Les Invalides and this green statue. I saw it by myself lately and I already miss this scene. Yes, I miss it. That's what I think. Really. Thank you Eric. And good night.

ReplyDeleteIt is indeed beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great link, Gary.
Suzy, you have the best avatar evurr.
Pretty colorful for a night shot, Eric! Hope you had a lovely time with your friends ce soir. (And thanks for the info, TG).
ReplyDeleteYou and your walks, Eric! Do you realize how much drooling you induce with such statements and photos? ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't recall having noticed these statues. I suppose the dome always drew my attention. Thanks for introducing me to a new aspect of the area.
«Louis» regrets that he went around but not in Invalides in his time in France. Somehow, he had missed this statue.
ReplyDeleteThe night sky makes these even more beautiful ~ gorgeous, Eric!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your beautiful pictures. They help me in my souvenirs of Paris. And I always feel frustated because I've missed so many parts, last time. Still it was a nice trip. Next time in Europe, I wish I could add Roma to Paris. And many more cities I dream of.
ReplyDeleteThe statues in the gardens surrounding Les Invalides are some of my favorites in Paris! One in particular is of a beautiful man; reminds me a bit of a young Jim Morrison.
ReplyDeleteParfait!! Et le 7eme...J'adore!!
