My scooter broke down a few days ago and I had to take it to a garage... Last evening I went there to pick it up and on the way, I came across this stunning painted wall at rue Oberkampf. It was made by Mosko Associés, a group of street artists that actually started in the Moskowa area (hence their name), an old Paris quarter that has been renovated and completed in 2004. Check their website.

  1. Very colorful -- however, I don't really like the cat's eyes. Cats have wildly beautiful eyes -- which makes them all the more difficult to capture by an artist.

Which brings to mind, I watched the PBS documentary "Birds of the Gods" this morning. Wow, those birds are gorgeous, and talk about colors; not to mention their beautiful dance routines. It was so fun to watch -- a sort of "guilty pleasure" as they say.

  2. Looks like the LSU Tigers from Baton Rouge, Louisiana will capture the BCS national football title this Saturday night and Paris is joining in the celebration early!

    Great post Eric, merci.

  3. I'd love to see more murals like this in our own streets. Love the purple eyes.

  4. This is huge. It almost "jumps out" of the wall.

Which part of the city is Moskowa area ? It's the first time i hear that term.

  5. "My, what big eyes you have!"

This are just gorgeous, but I wonder how easy it would be to sit with your back to this painting. Would you feel it staring at you?

  6. I know exactly where this is, Cafe Charbon is just behind it.
When we first started visiting Paris many moons ago, we used to hang out around Rue Oberkampf which was a pretty cool area then. The last time we went to Cafe Charbon however, we realised we were by far the oldest people in there, and that was that.

  7. WOW! Look at those eyes! Very interesting.

  8. Nice kitty! I love what these artists do.
Drummond -- That happens every time I go someplace with my kids—the little pishers are taking over.

  9. Speaking of photos -- it's not a "Kodak Moment" they are closing their doors.

Oh sigh, Kodak, a fine old American tradition. The company that brought the art of photography to the people, the masses. Thanks for the memories.
