Candy anyone?

I had a really exhausting day today, and barely found the time to take my daily photo. But on the way back home I passed by the Bastille area, where they currently have a tiny amusement park. I saw this stand where they sell waffles, cotton candy, ice cream and many other treats and I immediately fell in love with its looks. I then set my shutter to a slightly slower speed and waited for people to pass by. I'm quite happy with the result, even though it's not the photo of the century LOL!

  1. Thanks for this photo - reminds me of walking past exactly that spot exactly 3 weeks ago. (though the smell is sickening!) Don't know what they call it in the US, but "barbe a papa" is "candy floss" in GB.

  2. Wonderful low light shot, Eric. So hard to get it right like this with a bright center of interest in the dark. I love the sharp details in the bright treat stand and out in the dark edges of the shot, too. The motion and angle make it even more super. What camera are you shooting with these days to get such great details in such a hard lighting situation? -Kim

  3. These little carnivals are universal. Humble little amusements and sweets. People love them no matter where you go.

The State of Minnesota in the U.S. has a very large state fair every year. I've read it's one of the biggest in the country. The last time I went, I almost threw up after going on one of the rides. I've never gone back since. That was thirty years ago.

  4. It doesn't need to be "the photo of the century"...it just needs to be like this, another sweet glimpse of Paris.
    : )

    Thanks as always for sharing!

  5. How about the photo of the day? I think you downplay your skills, mon ami. Besides, what LGreenWriter just said is too true!

  6. Great pic, Eric! I share Kim's question about camera choice. I think V is referring to the US's cotton candy, air-spun sugar served on a paper cone; a cavity on a stick, but loved by the kiddos. :)

  7. I'm with LGreenWriter. We need those pictures of everyday life and views.
BTW I had a lovely 4 day stay in CDG due to Sandy. The plane was met in JFK by a supervisor from my company to see how we all were. I looked at her quizzically and said "the biggest complaint I heard from the flight attendants was that they were running out of money due to shopping....and you just said you still don't have electricity and heat. Something is wrong here!"

  8. PHX: Perhaps you flight attendants should have been asking the supervisor how SHE was doing! At least they showed some concern for you. What a mess in New York. Glad you made it safely.

  9. I second what LGreenwriter said. This is such an evocative photo--I can almost feel the cool air and smell the cotton candy.

Jeff--It's been a few years since I last went to the New Mexico State Fair. I don't know why, since last time it featured Harley (The World's Largest Pig) and Russian Performing Cats. That's a lot of entertainment for five dollars.

  11. @ V ...Barbe a papa/cotton candy is fairy floss in Australia.

  12. @V "Fairy floss" that is really sweet (no pun intended!)

@Kim & Katie "hat camera are you shooting with these days to get such great details in such a hard lighting situation?" Thanks first of all ;-) I have had a Nikon D7000 since July and I must say, even though I keep saying everywhere that a camera does not make the photographer, it seriously helps! I just love my new camera.

@LgreenWriter @ Alexa "it just needs to be like this, another sweet glimpse of Paris. " Thanks. I have to say after 7 years I've become more demanding!

@PHX " "the biggest complaint I heard from the flight attendants was that they were running out of money due to shopping....and you just said you still don't have electricity and heat. Something is wrong here!" LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

@Jeff "What a mess in New York" So it seems from the news we have here anyway.

@Mrs Vandertramp "--I can almost feel the cool air and smell the cotton candy." Thanks that was actually my exact intention.

@Bill" Your photo radiates light and happiness. I think it's wonderful!" It was my intentioin too ;-)

  13. It's lovely and I was so happy to have some "fairy floss" aka cotton candy last week on Halloween. (And it was even purple, my favorite color!)
