Hurrah, I managed to go out one hour yesterday! Long enough to witness "O Lavagem de La Madeleine" a Brazilian march, that apparently originates from Bahia and that has been imported in Paris in 2002! Lots of drums, fancy costumes and fun. I took this shot while they were passing by the Opera House on their way to La Madeleine, hence the title of this post! Have a great week everyone.

Glad you were up to getting out to capture this (and enjoy it yourself, of course). There are sometimes Brazilian drummers marching in out annual Halloween parade—they're fantastic!

DeleteA wonderful shot in a wonderful city. Always so much going on there!
ReplyDeleteTrue, it's like a magnet for music bands, protesters, demonstrations, marches...
DeleteWe see a parade like this in San Francisco around May. It was originally supposed to be the pre-Lent celebration, but the weather is usually so unpredictable and often cold at that time. So, being San Francisco, the powers that be just moved it to a better time. Now it's completely detached from Lent. Besides many samba school groups, there are martial arts groups, cultural dance groups (there seem to be a LOT of Bolivian groups), and an assortment of unattached but costumed people who just dance along in between the official groups.
ReplyDeleteLove the "So, being San Francisco, the powers that be just moved it to a better time." LOL. Thanks for the info Sasho
DeleteSo glad you were able to get out for a bit - that is absolutely the best part about this photo! Aside from your improving health, le Palais Garnier is beautiful, too!
