Taxi strike (Part 25!)

I just read that Parisian taxis would go on strike this Monday morning to protest a recent judgement that DID NOT prohibit Uber! I know they have a lot of constraints (including the fact that they have to buy the "right to be a taxi" (a licence) for about 300 000 €), but still... I don't think they will will in the end for the population is clearly in favor of alternative solutions; not only because of the price of course, but also because of the poor level of service that regular taxis deliver. I took this photo in 2007.

  1. Uber is here as well, though the municipal governments are trying to put them out of business.

  2. I was always uncomfortable with Über name. And it turns out, they have been collecting & tracking private customer information beyond what is necessary for their business, they've been submitting fake ride requests with a competitor, they apparently don't run background checks on their drivers (alleged sexual assault and thefts in several countries), and the CEO has actually suggested running a smear campaign of some reporters who have reported items that could be viewed as negative (all in fun, he claims). Not for me, thank.

  3. I thought truck drivers were going to be on strike tomorrow, but I guess taxis too! You have to be happy missing all the fun of another strike.

  4. Pas de problème—my own two feet hardly ever go on strike!
