Have Giant Flies taken over Paris?

No, this is not a real fly, but a mock up that I photographed by the Jardin des Plantes, on the Grande Galerie de l'évolution museum side (a museum that shows the different steps of animals and man evolution throughout the ages). And to think this giant fly probably existed at some stage...

  1. I would love to have that sculpture in my garden. I wonder if this is buzz girl's French relative?

  2. This is NOT what I think of when I think of your city!!! When I fly there, I hope I don't have to climb a fence to get in!

It's Friday night here, I'm just about to leave work, and God am I glad the weekend is here.

    Bon weekend, tout le monde.

  4. Eric I love how you often start your posts with "No, this is not...something something..". It's cute.
This fly, however, is not. Specially from this angle, a bit too intimate for me..

  5. EeeeUUUUUUUWWW!!! That is just not nice, Eric. How could you? I squealed as loudly as...a loudly squealing lady. Ugh! Shudder. You've scared me away. My hand is over the screen for the first time since.. you posted the r.a.t. animals. Ugh once more.

  6. ...of course, there is ONE thing which will make me remove my hand from the horrid thing on the screen....a picture of YOU, Eric. We want to see our Paris man. Please. Oh my goodness! It isn't you in there is it Eric? you've been watching... THE FLY ???

  7. I must disagree with Lynn. I feel terrible about it, as I rarely disagree with Lynn. But I think it's a charming sculpture, and I like the photo's playful perspective.

  9. A rather intimate view, don't you think? Fun!!!

  10. Hi Eric,
Remember the lighhouse in my old fief and how I wanted to see it by myself... I did it !
    Thanks, lol !

  11. Now Lynn, we must find beauty in everything, including, rats, flies and Princess Ann's face on your site.
He, he, Jeff, as the other Lynn would say.

  12. I like this post for two reasons:
    1- I m fascinated by evolution
2- I happen to like this sculpture. I love the way the artist worked the wire in such a way that he/she managed to make the huge wings look fragile.

And Eric thanks very much for always provide a link to more information!

  13. Having said that, I wonder when you are going to give the girls a photo of yourself...with a link giving "more information"...

  14. Hey girls, you know if you look for a photo of Eric, you will find one in PDP's archives !

But maybe you're asking for a more recent one with a link for further informations ! Petites coquines !!

  15. Anonyme; yes we've seen that. Do you honestly think we wouldn't have searched? lol! No no, we want a recent one you're right!

Petrea, no worries about disagreeing - i agree it's about the only thing! Ugh.

Phx i did laugh at your comment! Your remark about Princess Anne is not lost on me, i assure you. Let me know when you find that beauty in her. Miaow. I am sure it must be there, concealed modestly within her character no doubt. My goodness at this rate i'll be sent to the tower. Come visit?

  16. Lynn and Phx, I never told you I once saw prince's Anne in person, did I? Many years ago she came here to an event at the Jockey Club to see some horse racing.
I was a little kid and was very excited for seeing a real princess. I didn't know much better but even so I remember I couldn't find any beauty in her face back then.

  17. oops, that would be Princess Anne.

Oh and girls... just rememered I have a picture. Of Eric and me. In Paris.
I'm not making you girls too jealous now, am I??!!

    ;-)

Tell me you didn't make her a basquet of flowers and she said to you: "What a ridiculous thing to do!"
On Christmas Day 2000, Princess margaret said that to Mary Halfpenny, 75, who had waited for hours outside a church at Sandringham. Source: BBC website

  19. I am disgusted at that, Rose. I often AM disgusted when i see hundreds of people waiting for the Royals; often they don't even wave, let alone talk to a few of them.

Monica, search my blog for her. See if she has improved at all. She really is the most ordinary of ordinary people. In her conversation too. I'm talking about all this to take my mind off ... that picture ! Ugh. Something pleasant tomorrow please Eric. Like... you!

  20. Well, I certainly would have liked to have been a "fly" on the wall at Sarkozy's wedding to Carla Bruni!! I can't believe you already have a brand new first lady, Eric! What do you think??

    ReplyDelete
  21. No Rose, I did nothing of the source. I was just standing there and I saw her a few steps from me.
I wouldn´t hand out a basquet of flowers to royalty. No way!

Lynn I saw her picture in your blog. I just didn´t comment that day, but I saw it!

  22. Pont Girl i was wondering too. The British seem to be laughing. Playing 'je t'aime' over the news reports etc., playing on their 3 months romance, top model, he's fooling himself blah blah. Also she is quoted as saying that 'she is monogamous from time to time'. Oh dear, what about the times in between? Who will fill the space?

  23. I love this area, and most of all the Great Mosque (La grande Mosquée de Paris)just in front of the Jardin des Plantes, where I always meet kind Americain people, drinking some mint tea. Un délice.

Pont girl: sarkozy's wedding to Carla Bruni? Beurk beurk beurk. And I don't say that toward her. Or not totally.

Eric, I think you don't have the choice anymore, a groupies band was created few days ago and their main claim is to see a picture of you...
If it can help, I agree to join their demand. But it's only to help. Of course.

    Have a nice week end.

  24. LOL Guille,

Well, I'm not sure I want to show a photo of me at the moment ;)

About our new first lady? I made it my today's post. Could not miss that could I?! What do I think Pont Girl. Honestly nothing, if they're truly in love, that is fine with me. I don't think it's a good idea if it's just a fling...

  25. For him, it looks like love. For her; for the moment anyway!

  26. I really like this photo (sorry Lynn from Cheltenham). It is not just an interesting sculpture, but where it's placed is well thought out. I am wondering now where is BuzzGirl? Hmmm, could it be???
