One million visitors milestone

Today is a great milestone for PDP... First of all I just celebrated my 3rd year anniversary (I almost forgot about it!) but it's also a big day for my stats; within the next 24 hours or so I will greet my one millionth visitor. I'm also approaching my goal which is 100 000 monthly unique visitors (over the last 30 days I reached 70 000). Let me dedicate today's post to you all. Like I said many times, you're my fuel...

163 comments:

  1. Whaa I never saw Paris like that! It's absolutely awsome, the perspective is wonderful... From the Tour Montparnasse?

  2. Eric,
En tant que parisienne extariee, j'adore tes photos de Paris.
Merci, et felicitations pour ton million de visiteur

  3. Eric, this photo is another "gasper." One for the desktop background! And many, many congratulations to you!

    ReplyDelete
  4. With photos like this your goal should be reached very soon. No rain on this day, I see.

    Congratulations on your 3rd year.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Guille, isn't that the Tour Montparnasse on the left? (blow it up and you'll see it)

    ReplyDelete
  6. What an extraordinary photo. This one I'll come back to again and again. Were you across the Seine with a zoom lens? I'm disoriented.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Really, your one millionth visitor? ça donne le vertige!
Glad to be your fuel by the way. Personnaly, you make me love Paris more than ever and you make me discover a lot of areas I didn't know before.
    Thank to YOU.

  10. Lovely photo! It has the look of a vintage postcard. Congratulations on your third anniversary and the 1 millionth visitor! Here's wishing you many more.

    ReplyDelete
  11. BTW, yes, I took this photo from the top of the Arc de Triomphe.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Congratulations, it will be an impressiva milestone. And it is always a pleasure to come here and see your lovely pictures.

  14. C'est vrai, on peut y aller?!!

    EIFFEL TOWER!
    EIFFEL TOWER!!
    EIFFEL TOWER!!!

    :-D

Now that it's out of my system ... er wait - EIFFEL TOWER!!! (OK, I was burping here) anyway, I was saying, congratulations on your Millionth (?) visitor, Eric, and especially for hanging in there all that time when I know it may not have been easy to come home late and say to yourself when all you want to do is sleep "OK, now the daily blog post..." So thank YOU for doing that, and congratulations on your up-and-coming (?) stats. Enjoy! :)

  15. Holy Mackerel!Every minute a comment is added, it's incredible to see how much people love your blog...I had no doubt on it before, of course, but it's confirmed with the past 3 days. ;)
Wall paper on my desktop, already. hehe.

  16. Will it be me? Will it, will it? The one millionth visitor; me? LOL oh my goodness you should make a rough guess as to what time it would be Eric then we can all race in a most ungainly fashion to be THAT visitor. My goodness imagine the dresses, the hair all flying to get there, the clouds of perfume, the painted nails speeding over the keyboards! You can make an average estimate oh yes you can.

I adore this panorama it's beautiful.

  17. What will the prize be for the one-millionth???? That knocks the GF out of the water!! ;)

Seriously, congratulations, Eric! You bring me daily joy to see my most favorite city on Earth! Thanks for all your efforts and for your incredible dedication!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh yes, dare i say, there should be a prize... Pont Girl well done. Perhaps a handwritten postcard from Eric in Paree?....sigh.... That's a big milestone isn't it Pont Girl, i bet you want it! Can't have it though; it's going to be me! lol Wait til the others see this.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Congratulations!
You site is a daily stop for me!
Thank you for the wonderful pictures!

    John.

  20. Petrea!
    Petrea!
    Petrea!

I can't stop looking at this photo. I feel like I could just fall into it - but then I'd probably just end up a pancake on the Étoile.

Did anyone ever see the movie "Window to Paris?" I believe it was a Russian family who literally could walk through a window in their home and end up on a Paris rooftop. I need one of those. Badly!

  22. Hello Eric and all,

Congratulations, I love your blog. I have been checking it every evening religiously for the past few months and I have decided to leave my first comment on this big day for PDP. I am French but I have never lived in Paris and your blog makes me want to move back to France and settle in this beautiful city.

To the Eric fan club, I am not sure I will ever be the GF but I will try my best. New kid on the block ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. je viens prendre ma petite dose de plaisir quotidien ici depuis de smois et des mois, alors je me réjouis pour ce beau chiffre tout à fait mérité :)
Bravo ! et vivement le prochain million !

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes, but you guys are good... I will have to work hard :) Bonne nuit

    ReplyDelete
  25. Dearest Lynn: You will surely outpost me on the one-millionth competition, since your fingers are far more golden and nimble than mine ;) Vous avez vraiment les doigts d'or (??) I could only be silver or bronze, at best. Although... one-millionth is probably rather more like winning the lottery since it's more random, so perhaps I do have a chance!

    Bienvenue Catherine!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Bonne nuit également! Promis demain je vous laisse ma place. Mais d'ici là...c'est moi Gold Finger.(with all the modesty of the world: Yeeaaaaaahhhhhh!).

    ReplyDelete
  27. wow...1000000!
    How wonderful!
    Hello Catherine!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Félicitations Guille, vous le méritez , vous êtes une fan fidèle (peut-on se tutoyer ?)
    I'll try tomorrow, for sure....

    ReplyDelete
  29. Aaahh the English "you" is SO practical isn't it? I would like to use only "tu" in France.
    Of course Catherine.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Completely agreed. I feel uncomfortable being 'vouvoyer', so tu is much better. Good night.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Eric,

Congratulations on your anniversary and on reaching the millionth visitor milestone.

I am so happy to have come across PDP. I check it religiously and it brings me a little piece of my most favorite place in the world every day.

Waiting anxiously until I can stand on Pont Neuf again.... Jamie

    ReplyDelete
  32. I suggest that when the millionth hit arrives on the blog the prize goes to Eric!

Didn't anyone else notice when Guille said "Holy Mackerel"? Guille, I love your slang!

    ReplyDelete
  33. You have a lovely blog here! I completely love Paris (almost as much as I love India) - can't get enough of it. The architecture specifically moves me.

Congrats on your successful blog. And I'm looking forward to visiting again.
    best,
    S

  34. Great photos and great idea for a blog. Congratulations. Vive le tour.

    ReplyDelete
  35. my biggest congratulations to you eric, well done and keep up the good work! :D

    ReplyDelete
  36. First of all, my felicitations to you for your soon-to-be-millonth hit.

And now for the photo, yes I believe it's the view from the L'arc du Triomphe. I was in Paris last November and on two occasions, I couldn't ascend the structure because of some ceremony for the unknown solider below...tant pis!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Gorgeous shot, and congratulations on three years of diligently posting beautiful photos of one of the world's most beautiful cities.

  38. Gorgeous shot, and congratulations on three years of diligently posting beautiful photos of one of the world's most beautiful cities.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Eric you are welcome. I mean, I'm sure a big porcentage of the hits PDP gets goes to me, Lynn and the other girls! (how modest I am..)

    So I guess it's: Metro/Boulot/PDP/More Boulot/PDP once again/lunch time: PDP, PDP, PDP/end of Boulot/PDP encore/GF race/dodo

    ReplyDelete
  40. A photo from this exact vantage point hangs on my bedroom wall just to the right of my bed. Each morning I wake, the first thing my hazy eyes see as I open them is Paris and I close my eyes slowly to imagine I am there... always in spirit.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Photolicious: The ceremony is held every day (at 1800, I believe?). The history of it is quite amazing. Wikipedia has a gloss. The body of the unknown soldier is from WWI.

I read somewhere that even when the Nazis first occupied Paris, a few brave French war veterans marched to L'Arc to honor the unknown dead. The Nazis allowed the ceremony, so the daily performance of it has been uninterrupted since...the 1920s?

    Correct me if I'm wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Your numbers are impressive Eric. See how it would be worth publishing a PDP book? You could sell 1 million copies!
(I'm available in case you need a manager!) ;-)

And this photo IS amazing. It's my desktop now too.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I love the way the trees in the photo look like a green carpet.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Eric, your photo of the Eiffel Tower today is dreamlike {sigh} just divine. Inspiration, all great artists seek it. ;)

Whoooo Hoooo parteee on the PDP for the 1 millionth visitor (incredible)!!! Who will it be? Where do they live? How did they find you? Your blog is attracting a lively and interesting group, more and more each day. I love Monica's book idea. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Bonjour, Eric. I found your blog randomly and love your photos of paris. Thanks for showing us Paris from your perspective. I hope to visit her soon. Keep up with your nice work!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Congrats on the stats Eric! And thank you for bringing a little piece of heaven to my eyes every single day. Paris is my favorite city in the world and your photos allow me to feel a little closer to it even though I'm so far away.

    xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'll pop in to say congratulations. Now, if you're there in May when I visit, Eric, I'll buy you lunch. Or maybe dinner. (Cote du Mer on Blvd St. Germain?) After all, I'm saving money with using my airline miles for a free flight. (Yes, PHX, American.) And, after all, two of my friends will be there. And, after all, I said I'd buy you dinner two years ago for your blogger award.

And, by the way, anyone going to Paris May 6-14?

And, by the way, when was the last PDP picnic? Oh, yeah, I remember...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Congratulations! And thanks from all of us who so look forward to checking out another daily photo of Paris taken by a most congenial Parisian.

Every day! How can you do it? I hope you are able to kick in a bit of auto pilot even on days you aren't away on holiday.

    ReplyDelete
  49. congratulations on the million milestone

here's hoping i'm the millionth visitor

i'll be in Paris first time ever in a couple of weeks, your photos have been inspirational for my trip

    ReplyDelete
  56. And thanks to you for reminding us of the reasons to love Paris, whether we've visited in person or not!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm so glad to have stumbled upon your blog! My husband and are taking a quick (as in, 2-day) trip over to Paris this weekend. We feel very overwhelmed with all the city has to offer but this info is great! I'll definitely be checking back regularly. :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Your stats are even more impressive after I became curious about the term "monthly unique visitor" and found:
"A unique visitor is a unique IP address that has made at least 1 hit on 1 page of the web site during the current period shown by the report. If this visitor makes several visits during this period, it is counted only once. The period shown by the summary reports is a month."

Wow. Once again, congratulations indeed! I'm dizzy for two reasons now, and both related to triumph.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Congratulations Eric, that's fantastic. And what a view !

Eric, may I use your blog to relay an important message?
LATEST NEWS: 24 HOURS AGAINST INTERNET CENSORSHIP - PLEASE TAKE ACTION
This morning I heard on the radio that Reporters Sans Frontières (Reporters Without Borders http://www.rsf.org/ ) is lauching today the first International Online Free Expression Day, a worldwide cyber demonstration against government censorship on the Internet. Why is it important? A total of 63 cyber-dissidents are currently in jail worldwide for using their right to free expression on the Internet. China continues to be the world’s biggest prison for online journalists and bloggers.
You can help! To denounce government censorship of the Internet and to demand more online freedom, please come and protest: TODAY AND TODAY ONLY (from 12th March 11 am to 13th March 11 am Paris time) you can take part in the 24-hour online demonstration that will take place on Tien An Men square in Beijing and in one of the nine countries that have been identified as "enemies of the internet": China, Burma, Vietnam, North Korea, Egypt, Cuba, Erythrea, Tunisia and Turkmenistan . Just click on http://www.rsf.org/ and follow the prompts: you will chose an alias (your virtual character), a slogan for your banner and the city where you wish to demonstrate. We need huge numbers! The blogging community can make a difference. Please relay this appeal and take action.
Read the full details about this action here.
(please note you cannot action before 11 a.m. this morning)

I told you fame would come. Perhaps someone local to Eric can tell the paper. He is too modest to put it in himself, i fear.

Today's view is going to replace the Arc de Triomphe stairs in a few minutes ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  73. .. and for visitors who would like more "geographical details", I guess the avenue on the left is Avenue d'Iena, going down to the Pont d'Iena, which crosses the Seine between the Trocadero and the EIFFEL TOWER (yessss!).
The one on the right is Avenue Kleber, going to the Place du Trocadero.

  74. ~Happy Anniversary~ and ~Congratulations~ and thank you for another awesome photo :) Love the tree lined streets in the midst of the concrete jungle!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Happy 1 million! I've just thought, I really should share this Blog link with my boss and a colleague, both of whom I think would love it (my colleague's another keen photographer like me), and also an American friend who's making a brief visit to Paris en route to Toulouse I think. She wants to see Paris so much, she's cramming as much as she can into her 7 hour pitstop ;-)

  76. Happy anniversary from a lurker en Corse!
I always love going to your site to see another view of Paris. Keep up the good work!

Hey, is there a Sao Paulo Daily Photo???

    ReplyDelete
  83. i am a bit concerned what if you approach your goal of 100 000 visitors ... do you stop? I hope you just treat yourself and buy a new scooter.
    Long years to PDP!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Lynn, none of us can be the millionth visitor because it has to be a "unique visitor," per Tall Gary's explanation. I think Eric said that, too.

Not that you and I aren't unique. Some of us, in fact, are uniquely unique.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Congratulations, Eric. Job well done!! I look forward to more pictures of your beautiful city. I copied your picture for this post and am using if for my computer wallpaper. I hope that you don't mind. I so, just send me an E-mail and I'll remove it. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Congrats! As usual, beautiful photo and thanks for starting this. I really enjoy the "sneak preview" of so many cities, especially Paris. They brighten up the dull days and make me feel connected to other parts of the world. :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'm so please to be part of this! Congratulations on your milestones and please don't stop!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Petrea, the uniqueness of a visit is not that simple to measure. For example, some people have settings in their browsers that stop sites counting them as having been there before and if they change their IP number as well, then it is impossible to track them down as unique visitors.
So technically, Lynn, if you clean the cache (clear everything in your internet history including cookies), then log off the network and providing you have a non-static IP number you will be a unique visitor everytime. Alternatively, you could go to your neighbours and friends' houses and ask them to use the net and visit the site and hope that nobody hits the million mark while you are trying to get yet another computer. Hehehe...that would be funny!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Michael there used to be a SP DP but they stopped posting a long time ago...a shame really because SP gives you an amazing scope for good photos.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I just happened upon your blog today- it was in the "blogs of note" section. These pictures are beautiful and insightful- and the idea of sharing your country with the world is a great one. Thanks for the pictures!

  91. Rose, don't give advices about computer or internet or anything connected to a plug to Lynn, it's like Chinese for her. :) Thx for asking where I was!(blush). I had school until 8p.m. but I decided to leave "Nanterre the beautiful".

Holy Mackerel Petrea! Don't you know this expression? I thought it was an old one...Maybe I'm wrong.
I like "holy moley" too. Old-fashioned but so good.

    Guille.
    GF un jour, GF toujours!

    ReplyDelete
  92. hehe hundredth comment for me. Not the 1 000 000th visitor but...no so bad!

    ReplyDelete
  93. he he Guille yes you're right, it's all chinese but funnily enough i did understand Rose's details. Some things on the computer, like website jargon and html THAT's Chinese, but my own computer i'm pretty ok with. I am pretty unique though let's face it, as are you and Monica, Petrea, Rose, all of us are. If this million is based on unique visitors, then just how many ordinary people (that's us then folks :( we're the mere ordinaries) has he had?? So we cannot be winners, then. What a shame. Our balloon is burst. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  94. We girls could all give ourselves titles.
I m keeping my self proclaimed title of PDP Number 1 Fan!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Oh, there is a geek among us?! Cool! Good to know ;)

    ReplyDelete
  96. Eric, this is wonderful! And these amazing stats are the result of your great work:) Congratulations:)

    ReplyDelete
  97. I don't know what to call myself Rose apart from No. 1 fan! ... ?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Let's all clean our caches! Thank you Rose, for the explanation.

Guille, I've heard Holy Mackerel. Yes, it's old-fashioned. I thought it was sweet that you used it. I was just remarking on your command of American slang.

When I took French class in school, they taught us "zut alors!" and "De donc, ou est la bibliotheque?" My French voisine looked at me like I was nuts when I used "de donc" with her.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Eric, what an achievement. Those stats are mind boggling and so well deserved. A very happy third birthday and may your 100 000 goal soon be reached. I have no doubt it will. And again, thankyou for creating this CDP family - for many of us our lives are enriched and changed forever- all thanks to YOU.

Jilly - Menton DP and Monte Carlo DP.

Great photo for such a milestone - simply amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Guille: Am I to understand that you are a student at Paris X University Nanterre? If so, what are you studying?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Tomate we have a few geeks amongst ourselves
Lynn what about Number 2? hehehe

    ReplyDelete
  102. Petrea, you are welcome
I know what you mean about
Guille's command of English language. As if it wasn't enough the brat (that is for breaking my bank on Fb!) also speaks Spanish, knows too much about everything, plus is funny and witty...put us to shame or at least moi!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Holy smoke Petrea!! "dis donc" is very informal!LOL. I would like to speak American/English slang as I speak French slang. It would be fun. Do you know more French slang?

Lucio, HOW is it possible for an Australian to know Nanterre Université?? I can't believe it.
I study Art History. And Law in the same time. So my timetable s**ks. :S

Eric if I'm not wrong, you studied in Nanterre? What were your studies?

    ReplyDelete
  104. I have to congratulate you Eric, and here, like all your fans, even if you already know all the good things I think about your great DP communauty!
I hope PDP has brought to you plenty of real happiness for three years and that you will go on a little while again!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Guille: I know about your university because I once considered the possibility of completing part of my higher degree in Paris. At that stage, I was going to major in Cinema Studies and French, but my interests shifted as a result of my passion for Art History being reignited by some wonderful lecturers. Now I'm doing a double major in Cinema Studies and Art History.

I will be picking up French again next semester, as an extra subject, and taking the odd philosophy subject along the way (probably during the summer and mid-year breaks).

BTW, I am at the University of Melbourne.

What are your current Art History subjects, if you don't mind me asking? Mine are Baroque Art and Nineteenth Century European Art.

  106. Rose, thanks for the "brat"!!!! I'm breaking your bank on Fb and it's only a beginning. hehe. Stop buying Michael and we'll see. Or buy him and offer him to me. ça marche?
You're wrong, I don't "speak" Spanish, don't know too much about everything (pfff), I only agree with "funny", it's a compliment I like. And I have to tell you that I'm "de facto" a brat.LOL.
But what about you Rose? You speak English as an English (Take it as a compliment!), and you are one of the funniest girl here. I have to say "after Lynn" because I'm wainting for a postcard from her and don't want to upset her...And an upset English woman is worse than everything, she throws you pudding to the face and curses your bloody country in order to send you the surplus rain she has in the UK...Too risky.
    What's more,
you're really cool and young: you're on Facebook!

  107. Lucio,
If it's not indescreet, how old are you? You told me before that you restart to study so I guessed that you worked for a while before.

My art studies are general: romanesque art, Etruscan art, medieval art, modern art (by mondern I mean Renaissance), contemporary art (from 1900 to now). And in optional I chose American movies Ideology, Japanese art and Ethnology.

You would love Nanterre. ;) The master's degree you're talking about is a good one and quite renowned.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Guille, you say I speak English as an English but you are so wrong: I open my mouth and before I say anything people say "Oh, where do you come from?" or I say "My name is Rose" and they say "How do you spell it"...

Lynn, there is your title PDP Number 1 Fun ;) or we could call you The Duchess of Pdp-land

    ReplyDelete
  109. Guille, I don't even know what "dis donc" means. The only other slang I know is "pfff."

  110. Ive just found your Blog!
I will visit daily. Thank you for giving us a bit of Paris all the way here in Missouri, USA!

  111. Guille: It's not indiscreet at all!

Just over a month ago I turned forty-six, which in many people's minds makes me a "mature age student" - a term I absolutely loathe, by the way.

The fact is I spent the first few years of my adulthood working as a writer, director and designer in the theatre, before attending film school. I then worked for about a decade or so in the film industry, directing advertisements and music videos. I also did some script editing.

Then, a few years ago, I got divorced (fortunately, we had no children).

At the same time, my father became very ill, so I moved to the country in order to help my family take care of of him. While there, I worked as a kind of guest lecturer in various secondary schools. My interdisciplinary background meant that I could teach in several departments - and did, with relish. I particularly enjoyed devising and presenting single text seminars on film. On the side, as always, I was doing copious amounts of reading, viewing and writing, all of which gave me the idea of re-entering academia. That's why I'm back at university.

Ultimately, I'd like to lecture (which I found I was quite good at during my sojourn in the country) and write books (either monographs or collections of essays).

Well, I think that's about it. Oh, I also had an exhibition of my artwork back in the nineties and, if all goes well, hope to have another one in a couple of years.

I think I should stop now and heed the motto of my blog:

'The secret of being boring is to say everything.' (Voltaire)

From one photographer to another looking forward to your 2 mill visitor.

  116. LOL i just read your comment, Guille about an upset English woman ! She throws pudding at your face? How funny. No i'd never do that. Sends you her surplus rain? I might do that. he he.. oh and Rose, no i cannot be No. 2. In anything. lol! I'd rather be Duchess. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Rose,
I thought your name was pronunciated like the flower, it is not the case?
Don't worry when I say my name people always ask me to repeat or to spell it (it's the problem with rare and square name LOL). I like yours. Is it Rosa in Bresilian?

Petrea, I'm not even able to translate the "dis donc" (your "de donc"). Maybe Eric would help us...or somebody else who is fluent!

    Lucio,
You had a busy life and obviously it's not going to calm down! The "rang" (I don't know if it's used in English in this way) of your specialties and knowledges seems to be considerable...
Where do you want to lecture ? At uni? Would be nice to have my Cinema course lectured by you in Nanterre! Study there and then teach there. ;)
Of which "country" are you talking about? You mean countryside? I don't catch the subtetlies of English.
"mature age student" hehe. I think it's courageous to study at your age (don't be offended!).

Lynn, it's weird you didn't react to my description of you (or any else English woman) upset. I don't recognize you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  118. Ok Lynn, I had to refresh before posting. My comment took me too much time! :S

    ReplyDelete
  119. Yes it really made me laugh, though i missed it the first time round.

Now, WHO made it to the millionth mark? Why does Eric not come in and tell us, put us out of our misery? He LOVES to keep us all dangling.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Guille: Yes, my life has been busy - which is why it has never been dull.

"Range" is the word you are looking for, and it can be both an asset and a curse. In an era of specialisation, someone like myself can seem like an anachronism - or, at least, difficult to pigeon-hole. Which is why I always fear the question: "What do you do?" Where do I start!

Lecturing at Nanterre, or at any other Paris university, would be a dream come true, but for the moment it must remain just a dream.

I mean country as in "the countryside". I grew up in a smallish country town (pop. 20,000).

Returning to study has been an interesting experience, to be sure. Fortunately, I never think of myself as either young or old when it comes to learning, which I have always pursued firstly for its own sake and only secondly for its longer term rewards. "Young" people tend to think that everything lies ahead of them, while "old" people tend to think everything lies behind them. I, on the other hand, tend to think everything is right in front of me - here, today.

So no, I am not offended by your comment: which, accordingly, I should accept as a compliment of sorts. And I would, if I thought of myself as a courageous person.

  121. Is it just me around for the GF race tonight? Come on, show yourselves! lol.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Rose, could you buy me back in FB?

I was bought by someone I don't know... I belong to a stranger...

    :(

  123. Lynn I'm here. Not sure I can beat you though..

Guille I just saw you bought me bacl at FB! Yay!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  124. LOL oh Eric you LOVe it, what a tease you are. Look at that. One word. Soon dot dot dot. Oh the pain...

  125. I can't take this suspense!!!!! I think I'm gonna quit... this is too nerv wrecking!

    ReplyDelete
  126. I'm falling asleep...may not be able to stay up.... i had hardly any sleep last night...lol

    ReplyDelete
  127. Lucio,
In French "range" is an asset(if you can, look up in a dictionary to "éventail" or "panel", I don't have one).
to pigeon-hole? What does it mean?
To study, the age is not important. In my previous school, 1/3 of the students were from 30 to 60 years old! So you have the time. ;) I wish you to fulfil your dream of lecturer.

Lynn, as usual, I'm here. My Bic pen embedded in my cheek because I felt asleep on it...

Monica, I saved you from the hands of the stranger. You cost me A LOT!

    ReplyDelete
  128. hi Guille. I too went to uni as a mature student ten years ago. I was so welcomed by the younger ones! It was great fun.
To pigeon-hole is to put someone in a certain category, Guille.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Guille: To "pigeon-hole" someone means to categorise them in manner that, seemingly, restricts their ability to escape this categorisation. Thus, it is most often used as a negative term, and found offensive by those to whom it refers.

I found these French translations, but my impression is that they are only remote equivalents.

    n. - case, casier, (fig) catégorie
    v. tr. - étiqueter, cataloguer, classer

Good luck with your studies, and do keep in touch.

    ReplyDelete
  130. LOL, I have a feeling many of us are here waiting for another photo treat from Eric (and to win the coveted GF). :)

Hello fellow mature students. :) I'm not studying art, but Engineering Education (say what? it's a new Ph. D. program, a longish story). I teach, I develop curriculum, and I do educational research. But my passion in for design, I would love to be in a design studio working with students on some real world, meaningful projects.

I so admire all here who have studied art, history, film and law. Bravo!

btw...there is another Jennifer here, "hello" Jennifer, I like you little picture...I might need to add one too.

    ReplyDelete
  131. "Actually 12 or 13 years ago. How time flies." LOOOOL Lynn!

Lucio, the perfect translation to me is "cataloguer". I know what you are talking about.
    Let's keep in touch.

Jennifer, don't admire us, all the studies deserve the same admiration. Your studies sounds interesting too!

    ReplyDelete
  132. Lucio, your life sounds expansive. My husband and I (ages 48 and 52, in that order) were saying today how much fun it would be to go back to school and study history, because we'd appreciate it now.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Jennifer: I agree with Guille. I also hope that you follow your passion and one day get "to be in a design studio working with students on some real world, meaningful projects."

  140. Ouch! Looking at this is like looking at a photo of a lost love. Truely I feel pain in my heart at times when I think of Paris and my desire to visit again. Oh how I miss the feeling, the food, the different arrondissements and the light. Oh the light in every city is so amazingly different. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  141. When I was in Paris, my Dad didn't want us to go up the the Eiffel Tower because he thought that the view of Paris from the Eiffel tower defeats the purpose of being in Paris! What's a view of Paris WITHOUT the Eiffel tower :)

    What a postcard shot!
