Sunbathing in Paris

I may not be taking any vacation this year, but I still get to lay in the sun right in the middle of Paris (presently near Le Louvre). It's not that bad actually, considering how the city is almost empty and all I hear around me are people talking in everything but French. I feel like I'm a foreigner in my own country! Nice feeling actually. Here is my postcard to you. Wish you ALL were here! ;)

  1. I wish I were there too, Eric! No vacation? The trip to Turkey didn't count? Well, I see a Ferris Wheel you should ride on for us - especially as an action shot!

  2. Eric, wish I were there too. I remember this lovely threesome but from a different angle. The wheel and sun make for a great framing. From the grassy side of the world, you did exceptionally well again. Hope the weekend has been relaxing.

  4. uselaine now is imagining Eric prostrate on the cut grass, getting green stains on his knees and, well, everywhere! Easy to shower that off though...

  8. You are such a tease! I am sure we all wish we could be there. And you are not alone: no vaca for me this year either. :-(

  9. You are too kind, Coltrane. I would prefer gold, but bronze will do.

  10. Well gals, I'm off to make some tacos for dinner. Enjoy the rest of the night. Peace! You are golden in my bool Cali. ;-)

  11. Oh! Speaking of the Olympics, our own Petrea is going to be in a television commercial to debut in those broadcasts! I think it will be for AT&T and she will be the woman watching television in a hotel room! I wish I had TV just for these moments! Can someone among us take a video of their screens when it's on, and post it online, d'ya think?

  12. Eric, I think that we all wish we were there to enjoy the view. That's quite the Ferris Wheel, it looks like it's placed in a spot that will interfere with the morning joggers. Hope your weekend is lazy and slow.

    Paris Photo Art!

  13. Oh yeah, to lay on the grass and just tan...Isn't holidays Eric? You're so demanding! ;)

Have a nice sunday all, and nite nite.

(I missed the GF race, but Coltrane, to answer your yesterday's question, I would add to the crown a golden cicada and some lavender sprigs (or wisps? or blades? which one?).

  14. I get nostalgic at some of these photos. Remember last year on August 2nd when we visited this spot with Jacques, Sophie, and Laurence? Do we have a future spot for a PDP picnic?

US Elaine. You can see a night view from the top of the Ferris wheel on September 11, 2007.

  15. Eric, a few nights ago, I went to Newport, Rhode Island to escape the warm weather & it seemed like everyone was speaking French!
    It sounded so nice!

  18. What a beautiful day!
I've been meaning to ask for a while now, I know some countries don't like tourists, do the French grizzle about all the tourists(I'm talking about the everyday people in France, not the ones pushed to the front to put on a happy face for the tourists)?

  19. I would love to see Petrea in her commercial, too, but I don't have TV either - so if anyone can make a copy of it, that would be great!

This photo is very relaxing. Its wild to think of Eric lying there hearing no French! I've read that France gets more tourists every year than its own population, and if that's true, they are the most patient people in the world and, in my book, entitled to feel overrun and exasperated every once in a while!

  20. Will it still be hot enough at the end of the month to sunbathe? I'm on my way over ... just a few more weeks. Can't wait!

  21. Not such a bad Dimanche. Moi? A bicycle ride with friends then barbeque and wine. Not bad, either.

  22. uselaine wires the last of the abalone shell palettes to the points of the GF crown, procrastinator that she is...

Here's the explanation of what to look for on the Olympics ATT commercial with Petrea.

  23. Eric, That sure is a big bright sun. Two circle photos in two days. "I feel like I'm a foreigner..." My X said the same thing to me once when he returned to Paris. I never forgot it because I thought that was a strange thing to say. Anyway, you are not alone. I wonder how many other native Parisians feel this way. It would be an interesting man-on-the-street survey. Hey, speaking of surveys; you don't give us those anymore. Remember how you use to do that. Maybe you stopped when someone said, "Eric loves surveys" :) hmmmmmm?

We had nice weather here in San Francisco yesterday so I went to a friend's sushi restaurant. It's a family run business by Steve and his two sons. Walking on the street, I passed a young couple sitting at a table at a sidewalk cafe. The man was speaking French and English. Well, anyway, I had Kobe Beef. And we talked about the similarities of Kobe Beef and Steak Tartar. I also tried Japanese mayonnaise for the first time and then we talked about homemade French mayonnaise. I also tried cold saki with a hint of juniper berries. I told Suzuki that Guille recently went to Japan. They love to hear about people taking an interest in their country.

Coltrain, I make tacos too. I don't like to eat them at restaurants. I think they use inferior meat and try to cover it up with tons of spice.

  24. Hi Lois...good to hear from you. Let's hear it for "tacos." ;-) My little four-year-old Elena loves to prepare her own...says Daddy doesn't do it the right way. Go figure! Sounds like you're having a great weekend. I just said Sayonara to my Japanese guests. Sure did enjoy them but I'm whipped. Glad to hear the weather has improved in the Bay area, too. Ciao for now!

  26. Beautiful, peaceful summer Sunday shot, Eric. And it looks like you have the town to yourself. I guess all the tourists are behind you, in the Louvre. And of course, we already know all the other Parisians are anywhere else!

  27. Hi Coltrane, I'm making tacos tonight. I have some ripe avocados. Once a young man, Vincent, from Paris was visiting me in the early 1990's. He had never seen avocados, and when I put guacamole on the table, he wouldn't touch it. We all tried to encourage him, no way. He wasn't going near it. He said it looked like smashed catapillars' guts.

    ReplyDelete
  28. BTW He said that in French -- it sounded nicer that way :)

  29. C'est bon! I love being a tourist in my own town. I hope you enjoyed yourself, Eric!

  30. They all must be in the Louvre because it's free first Sunday? Great sunshine Eric, glad you are getting some sun. Gorgeous blue sky. Very nice 'postcard', it and you are most appreciated.

  32. Yes, for some reason I'm feeling this as a particularly strange Parisian summer. The beach is there and all the other stuff, but something is... different. Or maybe it's just me changing and Paris staying the same. Nice photo, by the way.

  33. 'Loveliest postcard I've received since I-don't-know-when. I wish we all were there, too, Eric! Thank you for always thinking of us!!
