Sunset over Paris

I'm just back from dinner with the Benauts - and Michael who showed them Montmartre and Le Sacré Coeur this morning - at the excellent Le Georges restaurant on top of the Pompidou Center (also called Beaubourg Center) and here his the view we could see from the table we where sitting at until the sun went down for good. We had a lovely time and I'll post more photos on the making of later. But right now I just want to go to bed! Have a nice Sunday - and a good Labor day weekend if you're in the US.

  2. I think I'll use this resto recommendation when I take my friend to the Centre Pompidou - she has been wanting to see it. And, I've never been. I'm not a huge fan of modern art, but, a meal with a view like this could raise my enthusiasm for the visit!

  3. Stunning photo, just stunning! I'm sure I won't be the only one who gasped upon seeing this. I've never been to this restaurant; but now I want to go! Especially if I can get a sunset like this. Swoon!!! Carrie too bad our trips overlap because I would happily meet you at Georges. Congrats on GF by the way!

  4. Orange sky! You can photograph the Eiffel Tower every day with every color, for all I care. This is magnificent.

  5. Three years ago Georges was included also in the 10 best design restaurants of the world. It is one of my favourite places for dinner in Paris, the personnel is also so friendly, and the view... oh this view...
I also like the "brother" of Georges the famous restaurant of Hotel Costes in St. Honore.
Eric, wish me to find time next time I will come to Paris, so I can invite you for a dinner also there!

  6. Eric, what a beautiful photo. The ET never looked so good in the evening light. With it's roof top views, the Pompidou is a great place to photograph the city.

  9. I HAVE to do that, Suzy, it's for you:
    EIFFEL TOWER!
    EIFFEL TOWER!!
    EIFFEL TOWER!!!

This photo is one of the most beautiful that I've seen here, it is so Paris. Gorgeous sky. Un orange incroyable, vraiment.
I would have loved to be with you.

Le Georges is a great restaurant. But I still remember the bill of 14 euros for...a tea and a macaron. It's "quite" expensive!

I hope to see you tomorrow guys!
    Bon dimanche.

  10. Guille, you beat me to it! I was going to do the: EIFFEL TOWER!, !!, !!! for Suzy. But I must say this picture is worth everyone doing it!! Amazing photo, Eric. I really don't care for the color orange, but it doesn't even matter here. I love this!! Gorgeous! Merci Beaucoup!

And our good thoughts and best wishes to Michael and the Benaults!

  11. Hey Eric and Michael, you know how to dine in style. I can imagine the Benauts felt like they had truly ARRIVED. This is a gorgeous Georges photo, Eric! What a cool artistic restaurant. And what a magnificent view! I guess, if one thinks about it, most Parisian restaurants are really art museums that serve my favorite kind of art...the edible kind. Yeah, you made some magical memories tonight. Thanks for sharing.

  12. How beautiful, how I wish I was there with you!!!

  13. Oh, Eric, that is a breath-taking picture. The tower looks like lace.

  14. Coltrane "gorgeous Georges" LOL!!!

    Katie - ditto - it would have been super cool to meet on two continents! (At least for a tea and macaron!) I'm outfitting the crown, which is sitting a little cockeyed on my head right now, with a beautiful, huge (and I mean huge) multicolored opal (with a long and very mysterious history that fades into the mists of time) -- you should just see it. ;-}

  16. Oooh, USElaine, I just saw your link and went to it. What dulcet tones the man could produce. Smooooooth. Perfect for the end of the day here where I am in Cali; my sun is about to set into the sea and my evening about to begin. Maybe I'll have an orange colored sky! Thanks.

  17. It's time for bed here too and this is the perfect image to end the night on. Flamming orange sky and an iconic image.

  19. Carrie I'm glad you figured out my message; of course I meant to say that it's a bummer our Paris trips DON'T overlap. But I bet we'll find ourselves both in Paris at the same time in the future. Your crown sounds amazing! Love opals. And yes, where has Tall Gary been?

Mary thanks for the new vocab word "étourdissant" (my dictionary says it means staggering, stunning), which is perfect for this photo!

  20. Good ole Nat, perfect for any situation. Thanks uselaine!

Oh dear Eric, how are we all supposed to get through the day when we're daydreaming about Paris at sunset now? Even in my incredibly tired mental and physical state I'm absolutely stunned by the beauty. I suppose it helps that a nice russetie orange (is that even right?) is my current favorite color. Although I must say your comments on the photo worried me somewhat. The sun set for good? *cries* I was really hoping I'd wake up tomorrow to daytime. I imagine plants will start to die pretty soon without it!!!

So so happy you all had a wonderful time. It wont be too much longer now until it's my turn to tour and wine and dine with you!!! *squeel*

Ok, off to bed before I start not making sense. Well, more so than now. And before I start rambling. Oh, wait...

  21. Eric, Merci, Cali a/k/a Rose arrived yesterday and we went to Bastille for dinner. She had her favorite dessert, Floating Island.

Coltrane, Merci, we are having a wonderful time. This evening we went to North Beach (little Italy of San Francisco). And Cali a/k/a Rose was flirting with the table next to us. There were about six Frenchmen at that table. She heard them talking and you know she is a push-over for a man with a Parisian accent.

Alexa and Lynn, Today we went to ChinaTown. Cali a/k/a Rose wanted to buy everything. The jewelry just blew her away and the Chinese couture fashions (especially the silk jackets).

Cali a/k/a Rose is telling jokes all the time. I will share one with you. As you know I have a few closets of clothes. She told me that she never sees any fashions that she really likes. So she doesn't buy a lot of clothes. She said, "Now I know the problem, I haven't been shopping in your closet!" LOL

  22. étourdissant!! Thanks for the new word, Mary!

Lois, Cali, I'm so glad you're having a visit. Katie joins tomorrow, if I remember correctly. Everyone's having a PDP weekend. PHX/Alexa, Eric/Michael/Benauts. Anyone else?

Carrie, I miss Tall Gary, too. I bet he's traveling somewhere exotic.

  23. Rebuttal: in my defense I may have been innocently making eye contact with lovely Parisian men, but it was Lois who high tailed it over there to introduce herself and pass out cards with her vital statistics, leaving me alone at the table. Was I introudeced? Not on your life. ;-)

Lynn: start saving up for that hit!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh Lois it sounds like you had SUCH fun today! And where was I when you and Rose were flirting with 6 Frenchmen? Picking veggies in my mom's garden in the blazing heat. I almost fainted it was so hot! I'd MUCH rather have fainted in the arms of a nice Frenchman. Oops, did I just say that? Anyway, I am SO EXCITED about meeting up with you tomorrow! I'll be wearing red shoes and lipstick, so it must be a special occasion. And when is the sample sale at Lois's Closet?

Petrea you're so right that there are PDP weekends happening all over the world!! What an amazing thing that is. Eric, how can we ever repay you??

  25. I love your sunset pictures, Eric. And the sunrise ones. And the blue sky ones. And the stormy ones.

  30. I can tell you all that the dinner with the Benaut's was fantastic! The food, the wine, and most of all, the company. The only down side was that Eric and M Benaut were up and down all evening taking photographs! Imagine!

Mme and I had then the duty to finish the wine, of course! I learned that their European vacation is going to be enough to wear anybody out, especially me, but they are both so full of energy and love of life, they will touch everybody they meet.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I meant to tell everyone that yesterday I took the Benaut's all around Montmartre, Sacre Coeur, Place du Tertre, and Pigalle. It was the best summer day we've had so far.

While at Place du Tertre, we sat for a coffee at Le Sabot Rouge. As we took turns using "the facilities", on M Benaut's trip he ended up speaking with the owner, Manuel, in French. Come to find out that for the last 11 years, Manuel spends 2 months every year in Australia, a month of which is in Adelaide! After lots of laughs, photos, and mutual invites for when Manuel is in Adelaide or the Benauts are in Paris, we left with the world feeling even smaller than we already thought.

If you come to Paris and end up at Place du Tertre, be sure to visit Manuel at Le Sabot Rouge (13 place du Tertre - 75018 PARIS tél/fax : 01 42 59 19 99). Be sure to tell them the folks from Adelaide sent you!

  32. Good morning, eric, are you still in bed? Hahaha! Here in Vienna it is 11.45 and that's the same time as in Paris!
