Really Just Married!
Between June and September you find a lot of newly weds in the streets of Paris. They are generally followed by a photographer trying to catch their best profile ;) These two were no exception - and I was not the "official" photographer (as a matter of fact I often receive emails from people who plan to get married in Paris and want to be photographed!). FYI, there were 266,500 marriages in 2007, a pretty stable rate within the last 10 years (with the exception of 2000 of course...)

So pretty! I always love black and white wedding pictures. The tilted composition is also great!
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous photo Eric! I am sure the happy couple would love to get a copy. Can you find out who they are??
ReplyDeleteEric this is a particularly beautiful photograph. have always loved the way you use b&w but this one... well, you excelled yourself.
ReplyDeleteEric, another beautiful, beautiful shot! I love every corner of it. Too late for me and John to get married in Paris, but we keep meaning to have our honeymoon there.
ReplyDeleteEric, very nice perspective - . I found the following:
ReplyDeleteStudies show that people are waiting longer until they marry. The average age at which men married was 36.4 years in 2006, a rise of almost five years since 1991.
The average age at which women married in 2006 was 33.7, an increase of just over 4.5 years since 1991.
What a lovely photo of the Bride and Groom...walking together into their future.
ReplyDeleteLucky for them that with the summer we've had it wasn't raining! I agree with Rose, you've excelled yourself with the composition of this one.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely and romantic. I wish them the best.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great photo, Eric, and I love the lookers-on in the background too.
ReplyDeleteDo you or anyone know if Paris still has a residency rule to marry there? A friend of mine wanted to get married there about 5 years ago but was told that she would have to present proof that she was a resident of Paris for the last 6 months in order to get a license.
Eric,
ReplyDeleteAdd this to your card collection for wedding or anniversary.
Thanks!
Rena
I have commented on this before to Dido, Edingburgh daily that the best wedding photography is not taken by wedding photographers. It's always so staged, but this is a perfect example of a natural shot, simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBrides of all shapes and sizes really have a magical glow and grooms always have a sweet nervous way about them.
I agree with all the above. The couple would treasure this in years to come,it is so beautiful and yes add to a portfolio. It's such a different perespctive to the usual wedding shot. Night all.
Love the photo. I see another series Eric. Galleries love it when artists do series. It shows continuity, style and longevity. This photo brings to mind this B&W wedding photo you took http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_SBTuwr34yA4/R6EO9uj7RfI/AAAAAAAAFt8/qRT86iuh1v0/s1600-h/WeddingDressMoniqueGermain.JPG and I really love love love this one http://photos1.blogger.com/photoInclude/x/blogger/3488/872/1024/390934/WeddingDress2.jpg Now, if I were to get married again. That would be my dress.
ReplyDeleteSorry PDP -- I can't figure out how to do those fancy links. Even though I have been give the lesson.
Soosha, Great photo of you showing us your bumper stickers. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSo romantic and exciting... I love weddings. I agree with Babooshka that these are the best kinds of wedding photos. Candid and relaxed and intimate.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo! Perfect in black and white.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, a perfect shot indeed. E, you are always at the right place at the right time. Were you a guest or a lucky passerby?
ReplyDeletelovely photo Eric. You would do well in this line of work!
ReplyDeleteEric, wow! That's over 700 marriages per day. Have never really considered this...ever. As if there weren't enough love and romance already floating in that Parisian air. With that many marriages happening on a daily basis, it's a good chance that a visitor to Paris will come upon one, eh? Granted, there are probably a good number that aren't as ceremonious as these newlyweds. Hey, thanks for crashing their party! Be honest now, Eric. How many weddings do you crash per year under the guise that you are working for all of us? ;-) You go boy!
ReplyDeleteSoosha...you've got a nice bumper! (That sounds awfully NOT like the way I wanted it to come across. You know what I mean, right?) ;-)
Hi Eric! Lovely shot, as always.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened in the year 2000? Why were there fewer weddings?
A big shout out to Coltrane Lives, I'm watching a R&B special and BB King is singing. I know him from Max's Kansas City in NYC. He's a very quiet and polite man. A big sweetheart. Anyway, he just said, "May I live forever, and may you live forever and a day". What a love muffin!
ReplyDeleteVirginia "Were you a guest or a lucky passerby?" Simply a lucky passer by.
ReplyDeleteMonna "What happened in the year 2000? Why were there fewer weddings?". No more. It was probably the same everywhere in the world. People took advantage of this particular year to get married (305 000 in France) and to have a baby.
The B and W is perfect fot it...
ReplyDeleteCould it be at les jardins du Palais Royal? According to the fence... :p
WOW..!!!
ReplyDeleteDats PRETTY!!!!
I always loved Paris, whenever I can I go there visit. Living in London I've must admit what I miss the most in Paris is the food... Maybe I have chosen the wrong city to live in... Your pictures make me want to jump on the Eurostar for good!!! J'aime la France et j'adore Paris...
ReplyDeleteThinking about weddings and marriages and what makes for a successful marriages. Someone once said: "A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person."
ReplyDeleteAwww, how sweet! I've been photographer at my 2 most recent sister's weddings. I can't say I'm great, but they've been happy with the results-part of which is definitely way more candid shots than a professional! Of course mine would never be as amazing or beautiful as Eric's shots!
ReplyDeleteColtrane!!! I was very sleepy having just gotten up, but you've done gotten me wide awake now! ;oP Of course I know what you mean. You should see my car all nice a shiny clean and with my Obama magnet that's currently missing. (Owen likes to take my magnets off and rearrange them or move them to complete strangers cars!)
So pretty, a young couple walking together into a bright new future. Is that a noose above his head? Oh, no, it's a lamp.
ReplyDeleteluggi: I hadn't made that connection until you pointed it out. "is that a noose above his head?" Funny!!!
ReplyDeleteROFL luiggi!
ReplyDeleteLuigi..."noose above his head"...I'm dying from that one! You've my vote for "one liner" of the day! ;-)
ReplyDeleteSoosha...Owen's magnet "arrangement" (say it with a French accent "AH-RAHNGE-MAHH")is too funny! He can put an Obama mag on my old BMW(Bucket of Metal Works)any day. :-)
Lois...BB King is simply a BEAUTIFUL SOUL! How fortunate he has graced this planet as long as he has. I felt the same about Stevie Ray Vaughn...BEAUTIFUL. They're the type of musicians that make me want to say thank you Great Deity for the gift of allowing us to hear them play. Yeah, you can tell I have Guitar Heroes (but not Guitar Hero)!
Profile photo tweak test! Merci Soosha...I think I've finally arrived in OZ. Everything is so colorful and bright now. There's no place like PDP, there's no place like PDP, there's not place like PDP.
ReplyDeleteROFL! Wow, itty bitty like that it looks bad. Oh dear, the quality has been reduced by the jpeg format. That bites. Oh well, I tried anyway.

ReplyDeleteWith this photo you show why you get lots of emails from people asking you to potograph their wedding!!
ReplyDeleteI love B&W wedding photos too, they so romantic and chic!

ReplyDeleteNow I can log in but I don´t have a picture anymore. This internet problem just gets worse and worse. Hope to fix the pix problem along with my internet access problem.
ReplyDeleteSoosha...I'll probably go to another profile photo soon anyway. I'm tiring of this one. Thanks for trying.
ReplyDeleteHey Monica! Hope you get connected soon. Ciao.
I think I may understand, considering I've had 375 different profile photos myself in the last month alone!
ReplyDeleteEric
ReplyDeleteA very nice shot! I'm actually a Registrar of Births, Deaths, Marriages and Civil Partnerships in the UK, so I spend an awful lot of the summer weekends conducting weddings. It's good fun.
I would never wish to be a wedding photographer though, it's far too stressful!
B/w wedding pictures are so romantic. Whichever angle they are clicked from.
ReplyDeletehow cute! i've always loved the time i've spent in paris and don't know why i didn't realize until now i want to get married there... :)
ReplyDeleteThis picture is really amazing. Thank you for your hard work. You should think about posting you pictures on this new travel site I am a part of , baraaza.com. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteNicole
.. en noir et blanc
ReplyDelete.. parfait
.. pour essayer le nouveau profile
ReplyDeleteHi Eric, what a fun blog you have. I moved to Paris a few months ago and live in Belleville. I am struck by how many people i see having wedding photos done at Buttes Chaumont park. They are almost always Asian couples, and the wedding party is often totally rocked out in punkish attire. It's so amusing!
