Afterwork at the café

I don't go very often to cafés and bars after work like a lot of people do. Not that I don't enjoy a nice beer sipping once in a while at a terrace with friends or colleagues, but I often feel like I have much better things to do at home. Last night though, I made an exception. Why? Because I met with Virginia, from Birmingham DP (not the English Birmingham, but the one in Alabama!) who happens to be in Paris. We had a nice chat at a terrace and she really put a smile on my face when she told me that thanks to her blog she made friends with a lot of people. I'm really glad this CDP community gets people together. Especially since we know now - since yesterday's photo! - that this world may end in 2012!

  4. Oh, how nice for you both! Is this in fact the cafe where you met? Because this is a great photo. Even if I didn't know this is paris, I'd know this is Paris.

Wish I could have watched the dusk fall softly over the city with you, too. : )

  7. You're right Alexa, if this picture appeared out of the blue, we'd know it was Paris. I love the juxtaposition of the modern sign against the beaux arts facade. Another winner, Eric.

  10. Hi Eric, I am one of those who has made friends with Virginia through her blog site. It was her Paris Through My Lens site that connected us; however, I also enjoy her Birmingham DP site.

You are to be commended for creating the idea for these sites.

  12. Ah, what an oh-so-Paris photo. Love the neon sign especially. What fun that you and Virginia got to sit and have a drink and a chinwag! I know she's very sad to be leaving Paris, but I'm sure meeting with you was a great way to end her wonderful French adventure. You really have created quite a community Eric, that goes well beyond just the internet, and I thank you for that as well!

  13. Your post put a smile on my face. I so agree about the making friends around the world. That is my favorite thing about the city daily photo community. I also liked your photo. The building behind that pleasing Cafe sign is just so Paris and makes me think how lucky I am that I have experienced your great city and how wonderful it would be to go back again.

  15. Merci Eric for taking the time to have a sip at the cafe avec moi! I'm flattered to be mentioned as well. It's true you know. YOU started this whole thing and aren't we glad! You are the star (of course) of my blog today! I am currently spending my entire day trying to catch a flight home. Funny, when I said I wanted to live here, I didn't mean in the airport for pete's sake!

Hello to my friends that are commenters on your blog as well!!

  21. I agree the photo Virginia took is very nice (it helps to be back from the sun and have a nice tan!)

It's always nice to meet someone from the CDP family. I've never met anyone who I disliked (there must be something about the CDP bloggers!!)

  24. Meeting people through the blogs is really nice. Beware, though, you other daily photo blog hosts, you might meet people who make demands on you: like creating parties, or picnics, or other such tasks, and then fly across the ocean to attend. Watch out!

  25. Michelle from Iowa, email me. I see you don't have a blog. I have an Iowa connection as well! HA It's a small world.

THanks again Eric. It's Friday and it lookslike I'll be leaving Paris for Pittsburgh shortly and then on to B'ham. Look me up if you're ever in town! HA Believe it or not we have some very nice terraces to enjoy. We'll show you a grand time!

  26. Eric, one of your finest images. . .so simple, yet the light and sense of place make it outstanding. . .or is it just that I love design so much the circle and repeat of arched windows making a line and the contrast just sing? Great eye, as always!

So glad you could meet Ms. V. She's had a lovely adventure in your city, and it would have been incomplete without meeting the guy whose blog got her started blogging! You've got a circle of friends that encircles the globe. Thanks for being that friendly Parisian to all your viewers. So many of us have become friends and met. It's really fun!

  28. LOVE this photo, especially the way the shadow bisects the line of windows and the light above! It could be a notecard or postcard...
And I am looking forward to finding Virginia's blog! I am from Pennsylvania now but was born in the state of Virginia...
