Sport in Paris

I rarely posted a sport related photo on this blog and though there are many sport facilities in Paris. I'm not talking about the many private clubs such as the famous Club-Med gym, but about the 388 public stadiums and gymnasiums, the 38 public swimming pools, the 43 public tennis courts... I just checked the guide that the Paris town hall made and even I am amazed by what I could do if I were less lazy! BTW, I took this photo at Porte de Saint Cloud (16th arrondissement) at the Géo André stadium one of the stadiums where the Rugby players from Le Stade Français are said to practice. I'm sure all my female visitors heard of them ;-)

  1. They should be called Le Stud Français! That was a bit obvious!

This is a nice unexpected look at Paris. Look at what all that rain produced. Sort of makes it all worth it, huh?

  2. OOh -le rugby! Is that how you say it. Ooooooh, les rugby players!! I know that's not how you say it, but I'm not thinking too clearly right now!

What is going on in this photo, Eric? Is this a giant runner next to a normal sized basket seen from ground level or a tiny basket seen over ground cover with a normal sized runner?!

  3. The French Rugby Team? Yes, I've heard of them once or twice.

    *ahem*

How lush and green! Is there actually a basketball court somewhere in there?

  4. Umm, that's not a runner, right? I'm so uneducated with sports stuff - is that a rugby player or a soccer player, or can even sports-educated people not tell by the uniform?

  5. Holy Moly - 40.00 US for a calendar! (Yes, I went back and looked again.)

  6. There's a calendar? I was a little discombobulated. I'm afraid to click on the link again for fear I'll faint.

Is this a statue, Eric? He's all right, but I have to say he doesn't come close to the real thing. As far as I can tell from the photos...

    I love your pun, Cali.

  7. Hmm. I'm pretty dense, I guess, because I couldn't tell what was meant by obvious. Now I get it!!

Petrea - go for it -c'est pas mal!

I was just looking back at April 1/09 - a photo of a yellow post box - and saw a little metal plaque to the right of it with numbers and letters and what looks like a handdrawn symbol of Paris - the ship. Does anyone know what this is - is it some other kind of Paris municipal marker or some odd graffiti?

  8. Petrea - maybe they're not calendars, but posters.

  9. Oops, I thought this was a photo of Eric running to the site of his next photo. My mistake.

  10. [:-} Nope, they're caledars and a book. (I just wanted to make sure, so I went back and looked again.)

  12. I can look at them but I can't order one. I'm a married woman.

  13. A funky photo Eric. A little surreal even!

But Petrea, if someone else ordered one, you know, hypothetically, and then sent it to you, you know, hypothetically, then that would be alright, no?

  14. Good Lord, I just looked at that link and the fan on my laptop went into overdrive.

Petrea, I can't order one either. But if Michael happened to know someone who would do the hypothetical thing of which we shall not speak, my postal address is ...

Oh, and most importantly, Great photo, Eric! It does show another side of Paris.

  16. If someone were to order the calendar or the poster and send it to me (against my wishes), I wouldn't be able to hang it on my wall! Would you, Shell? Would you even be able to open the package?

  17. You guys crack me up! I definitely can order one of those calendars—but before I plunk down $41 for it, I need to know that it will be personally (and I do mean personally) delivered by Mr. August himself!
I just noticed this studly statue in relation to the basketball hoop. How big is this thing, Eric? Still learning from you—thanks!

  18. Ahh the disappointment Alexa. I was reading and I was sure you were going to say, "but before I plunk down $41 for it, I need to know that it will be personally (and I do mean personally) delivered by Michael!" :-(

  19. Oh, all right Petrea, I confess, I'd be able to open the package but I wouldn't be able to hang it on the wall. There's no room for it next to my firemen's calendar...

  20. Oh. Wish I could but I've kind of reserved a place on my wall for the naked farmers' calendar I haven't ordered.

  21. I just noticed if you click on the pictures of the calendar boys, they enlarge!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh, of all of us ....Gramma Ann tells us that they enlarge! Shell's laptop may not be able to handle this! Lynn - hoe, hoe, hoe!! : ) Eric, you seemed to think all the ladies would have heard of these guys already, but I think you've created a monster. And what about that tiny basketball hoop??!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Haa Shell and Gramma Ann!

Hey, wait a minute! When I clicked on my favorite he didn't enlarge. Am I doing something wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Gramma Ann obviously has the knack because my careful and tender click did nothing of the sort. I'm quite surprised at the revealing nature of these calendars members. (chortle) You wouldn't see this in England. We only get rear views and bottom cheeks. The forest of the front is usually well hidden.

  25. Older women I guess has something to do with it.

  26. For some reason I can't access the Rugby player link at the office.
Thanks for the tip Gramma Ann, but the enlarging will have to wait, as usual!
Petrea: if you do receive a calendar, feel free to share. BTW, the pun should have read "it should be named." Let's say the boys had me flustered, except I didn't try the link until after I wrote my comment.

  27. I don't know why, but I kinda thought this would be a big hit. Not that the photo is really interesting though. It may have something to do with one of the links I included in the caption... Go figure!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes, I'm confused by it as well, Eric. I'm going to have to study this post in depth. It may take hours.

    ReplyDelete
  29. And I'm quite sure I'll need to revisit it as well (until I learn Gramma Ann's magic trick).
Michael -- I almost said that! (But I didn't want you to feel obligated, you know.) Though you could probably be counted on NOT to call me "ma'am."

  30. I'm going to hide the laptop tonite....we saw Daniel Craig's new movie last nite and my wife carried on about him for the rest of the evening! The last thing I need is for her to see the links and everyone talking about how to make the models "enlarge" !! lol
