5 years!

So this is it... Today is the 5th anniversary of ParisDailyPhoto! I've posted 1834 photos since March 11 2005, every single day, without missing one. How's that for a commitment?! LOL. I've also met - or got to know online - an incredible amount of nice people from all over the world, and that is priceless. After 5 years I also thought it was time for a little "bloglift"... I wanted to wait a little more (I'm the perfectionist type!), but I decided to launch it today even though it's not exactly like I want this new layout to be ;-) As you will notice there are more opportunities to view the photos; you can browse by label, by category (Museum, Must see, Exhibition...), you can also click on one of the links suggested by LinkWithin under each post (it's not fully working yet as the service has to crawl all my photos...). There will also be other features in the weeks to come. I hope you'll like this new layout (even though I know that people generally don't like too much change!) and I welcome any comment you may have. Thank you very much to all of you, I enjoy your support, your nice words and your loyalty. BTW, I took this photo 2 days ago outside La Géode at the La Vilette park. If you look closely, you can see me in the reflection ;-)

  3. Happy 5th birthday to PDP, Eric!
I see the old girl got a face lift for her birthday - well she is getting on a bit!
She's looking better than ever now!

  4. Eric I can only say THANK YOU!
Thanks for your photos and comments. You know there are many people that every single day at this time is waiting for your comments and photos.

  5. OK, you asked for feedback. I would keep the photos and the daily article, the focal point. In other words, they probably should be centrally located, first thing you see when you log in.

I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to see the green dots finally disappear. I hate them with a passion (probably because many times, that's *all* I could load from the blog, no photo, no nothing, just the green dots! ;)

Good luck with your project and let us know if you need any help of some sort.

  6. Happy Anniversary! What a gift you have given us Parisphiles for the past five years. Thank you, thank you, thank you. We love you, man.

  15. Where am I, where am I??

Love your avatar-like picture in the upper lefthand corner.

Everything is fantastic, tho I agree with Tomate on one thing, your daily photo needs to be featured more promenently.
    Happy Anniversary!!!

  16. As always, Eric, you are in the center of the picture, whether your image is apparent or not. I've been coming here for about 3 years now and look forward to every post. Thank you for all your hard work. Congratulations!

  17. Many thanks for your labor of love (craziness?) over these five years. Everyday we get to share a little of your Paris, and it has been so enjoyable. I met so many folks, in person and on-line, through PDP and City Daily Photo. What a wonderful occasion to celebrate. Enjoy your blogoversary, and a little tribute over at SDP for you. Hugs!

This has been one grand ride pour moi. I've also so enjoyed meeting and getting to know you when I've been in Paris. Merci beaucoup mille fois, mon ami!

  30. "Congrats on the 5 Year Anniversary, Eric!" I absolutely LOVE the new webpage, although I like the old one too! But change is good! Job well done & keep up the great works of showing off Paris!

  31. Congratulations Eric, and thank you VERY MUCH for giving us a little bit of Paris every day, and for your friendship. I wholeheartedly again the Friendly Parisian does exist and you are one of them!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Congratulations again...and again, and again, Eric!! And, of course, merci.

1834 photos - that is aloooooot. I hope you really do something special to celebrate this anniversary.

BTW - what is the "urg" category??!!

  33. Congratulations Eric on a fantastic achievement: five years of continuous daily posts without missing a beat!

And BRAVO for the new look - wow PDP is entering a new era!

Lots of love from the south of France

  34. Just one more little thought, besides not being able to enlarge the comment box - it was really helpful to have the date with the photo, and I don't think its there anymore. (And, even if Tomate is really glad to see the dots go, I'm still attached to them!) (But, change is good!!)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Congrats on the anniversary!
Hopefully by the 10th, I'll be able to have seen Paris in person!

I like the remodel on the page too :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. "How's that for a commitment?" How I love a man who can meet a commitment. :)

Five years, that sure went fast! -- and many more to come. My website has been up since 1997 -- now I feel old. I owe it to Silicon Valley. They put me up and keep me running. BTW, my daughter said your new look -- looks modern.

I see you in the photo -- your reflection reminds me of those mirrors that warp the body at amusement parks. Way Cool! that you could capture that.

    Cheers!

  37. It's Midnight in Paris,
    6 pm in Toronto,
I come to Paris Daily Photo
And click on the Refresh button repeatedly until the new photo appears,
To catch a glimpse of the Paris that I love,
    Day after day after day.
    So far...
    And yet so near
Because of you and your dedication, Eric.
    Comment puis-je te remercier ?
Bon anniversaire et mille fois merci !!!

  40. Congratulations, Eric. Thank you for all your dedication. I hope you'll have time to view all the tribute posts tomorrow, and know how you've inspired us.

Terrific photo for your happy anniversary.

As for the new look: Wow! Like a new paint job (with blue lights) on La Tour Eiffel! It loads fast, too. I agree, I'd like to see that terrific photo take center stage. And I might not have noticed the missing date if Carrie hadn't mentioned it, but I'd notice when I went looking for an archived photo.

  44. Congratulations, Eric! And again, thank you so much for your commitment in sharing photos of your lovely (and sometimes crazy-looking) Paris, and for starting this wonderful community.

I think your new layout is great. So much more things to navigate to and explore easily.

With much love from the other side of the world.

  45. Eric, I stumbled upon the CDP blogs a few months back and it amazes me how a few photos and a few words can brighten my day. As a French student I absolutely love all of the francophone blogs, but seeing your little piece of Paris is a really nice part of my day.

    Chapeau! Et merci!

  46. Eric -

I have followed PDP for many years, and I thank you sincerely for all the beautiful photos. I admire your project of bringing a little Parisian beauty to the rest of the world.

  47. Merci beaucoup, Eric, for starting City Daily Photo. I've had a great time sharing my city with the world and seeing the world through CDP. Congrats on 5 years without missing a post . . . that's incredible and so is Paris.

  48. Marvelous! Congratulations and thank you for five years of our bleoved Paris!

  49. Once again Eric, happy anniversary and thank you for giving us a little slice of Paris every day! This is a great shot to celebrate - a reminder that behind (or in front of?) each of these daily images, you are there for us with your trusty camera. P.S. Tomate, I always thought the dots were pink - maybe I'm colourblind, or maybe they change colour as they cross the Equator? But too late now to go back and check.

    ReplyDelete
  50. OMG=Ohhhh Mon Dieu!! I thought there was something wrong with firefox when I went to my bookmarks list and clicked on PDP!! What a surprise!! I believe that as of late I have fallen into that category of people that are rather suspicious of "change", but I think the new design will grow on me. I do like the new links to categories and the great view of your left eye at the top of the page!! LOL!! Maybe you can "Frenchify" the home page a bit by having the Eiffel Tower and a bottle of Vin Rouge come floating across the page when we first access the site!! Merci for all of your hard work Eric, hope to see you in Paris this year!! I can't believe it has been 5 years that we have all been going to PDP to get our daily "Paris Fix!"

    ReplyDelete
  51. Happy photo-versary !! I love seeing your pictures everyday and 5 years - wow!! That is committment! I applaud you - thank you for sharing your beautiful city with us for 5 years!

  52. Wow - 5 years blogging and 1834 amazing photos of Paris! Thank you so much for not only starting your blog, but taking time each day to photograph your beautiful city for us. A day without PDP is a lesser day indeed. I miss the dots, but I'm ok with change and I really like your new layout. Delightful self-portrait today!

  53. Muchas gracias Eric for the 5 years of devotion to your superb blog!

  54. Congratulations Eric! your new site is beautiful.
though I would agree about your daily photo, if not center stage, maybe in this format just a little larger.
It is always a treat to see your PDP.
Thanks for all of your inspiration dear Eric.

  55. We started making an annual May or June trip to Paris in 2005, not long after you started your blog, and I've been checking out ParisDailyPhoto every day since then -- every visit we've added "must-sees" inspired by posts and photos of yours. You've really influenced my perception of Paris -- so thank you very much and congratulations on reaching your 5th anniversary. Now if only I could co-ordinate our visit with your PDP picnic!

  61. Five years is a long time to be posting a new photo each day - and a sincere thank you for doing it!

I agree that the date would be very beneficial on each post and hope you can add it on easily.

I have not been to Paris in person, but I have been there through your blog.

The new look will take me a little to get used to, but I agree that change can be good. Best wishes to you in finishing up this project and thank you again for starting the City Daily Photo community.

  62. Well I saw the blog yesterday evening when it popped up but it was too late to comment. Here it is 6:45am in Paris and there are already 60+ comments! What does that tell you Eric?

    So now we know...

    5 years
    1834 photos

    But...

How many litres of petrol have you been through?
How many press conferences did you have to go to?
How many times did you go down on your knees and come up again to make the Tenin Perspective shots?
How many awards you have won?
How many bottles of wine at the PDP picnics?

Hmmmm, I bet PHX-CDG has all of this data!

CONGRATULATIONS to a wonderful blogger and man!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Eric -- Félicitations, mon capitain! I wonder just how many people you've inspired to start blogging. When I first saw your new design, I thought I'd gotten lost in the blogosphere. Change is good, and I'm SO glad your commitment remains that strong. Very happy to have met you here in NYC, and hoping to see you next time in Paris! My own small tribute to your dedication is here.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Congratulations on making 5 years - you have inspired us all.

The new layout looks good. I added the "link within" widget but got rid of it after a while as it seemed to make the blog load very slow - it seems to work best on blogs with fewer than 300 posts.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Congratulations! I've obviously missed 5 wonderful years but I will make up for that now.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Many congratulations, Eric on 5 fabulous years, all those wonderful photographs bringing your Paris to our worlds, wherever we are. You have changed the lives of so many of us, I now have friends who are not just blogging, photography friends, but friends for ever - because of YOU! There's no way to thankyou properly for that but please visit Menton DP and Monte Carlo DP if you've a minute for special Eric tributes: La France Triomphante in bondage (!) and the Musee Oceanographic and both taken in the Tenin manner (I hope).

With love and thanks and many congratulations again, from Jilly in the south of France. xxx

And when's this picnic? Sounds like fun!
    Keep shooting the BEST!

  81. Joyeux Anniversaire, PDP! Eric, Paris could not ask for a finer ambassador. Thank you for your commitment and your care. I cannot tell you how many times your photos, your words, and this site have "picked me up."

P.S. Being the responsible journalist you are, I assume you had to arrange for emergency personnel to be on standby for the moment when ET Suzy saw that dedicated link. Thankfully, she has posted, so we know that she survived the thrill! :) Truly, the new layout is fantastic.

  82. Happy anniversary to PDP and to his big creator! This new look is a good change. I'll still have a very special thought to the previous version as, of course, it gave me... many emotions.
    5 years...
What did I do on March 11, 2005? Did not have the beginning of an idea. Did not know PDP, nor Eric Tenin, at this time. Met PDP somewhere in the first quater of 2007 thanks to an paper I read. And my positive intoxication to PDP since that beautiful encounter has never ceased ! Not a single day without checking PDP ;)
    So, what about March 11, 2015? Ohh my... Hopefully, we'll celebrate (1834+ 1834 new photos) 3 668 posts, won't we ?
But for today, March 11, 2010, I want to say a BIG thank you to you Eric. Because you are the best, Eric, simply the very best ;)

Any change must incorporate that. Congratulations dear Eric! I have not managed to post every day so I am full of admiration.

I see you in the photo! Great shapes and patterns there. I have not visited for a while, for which I apologise and, looking back a bit, I adore The Other Side Of Paris. 111. Happy 5 years, Eric! It was my blog's 1st birthday yesterday and your blog was one of the blogs that inspired me to start blogging, so, thank you! The new design and search features are great, too.

  112. WOW!!! I thought I was on the wrong blog at first. I love your new layout but it will take a while to get accustomed to it. 3 years ago I took my grandsons, then ages 6 & 11, to Paris. We spent a day at LaVilette park. It was wonderful. We also have a photo from the same spot with our reflections showing. So cool..

  113. Forgot to tell you congratulations on your anniversary. Also really love the Paris clock on the page.

  117. Congrats Eric!

My daily photo blog continues to be a great joy and a learning experience. I also appreciate all the friends I've made through my daily photo blog. In fact, tomorrow I'm going to go for a walk and take photos of our town with a friend I met through the blog. And I reconnected with a friend from college from over 30 years ago, through the daily photo blogs as well!

Bravo and thank you so much for your great original idea and constant inspiration!

  120. Gosh, busy here isn't it? A bit like all the best parties. Now, where's the kitchen? Got a bottle of wine to put down somewhere.

Cheers Eric, and congratulations on making it to one-twentieth of a century (makes it sound a little less obsessive that way). I can't quite make out why I haven't caught you up yet, maybe in a while.

  121. Eric,

Congratulations on 5 years! That is quite a commitment! And, I for one am happy that you decided to undertake the project.

I, too, have met many wonderful bloggers through your Daily photo friends - and have seen places that I will never get to experience in "real" life...so, thank you...

And, I love your new look!

  122. Congratulations, Eric, from an American who wistfully lives his dream Parisian life vicariously through you. To 5 more years!

  123. These five years have definately changed PDPers lives somehow, every day there is a wonderful post to read. I've visited this blog only about six months, but I'm really glad that I found it. I love Paris and through the blog it's just like being there every day for some minutes.

Thank you, Eric, for this blog and congratulations! Many years more for the blog! :)

  124. I normally check a couple other daily photo sites that are in my area before checking yours (saving the best for last). Imagine my surprise when I clicked on Greenville, SC's photo and saw a tribute to the "Tenin Technique" that many daily photo participants are using today! How fun! Exciting! What an honor for you! Congratulations!

  128. Congrats to five years of blogging Eric! It has been a fun ride. I joined in April 2006 and I am still enjoying it as much as I did when I started. I took a photo in your style for today's post. Hope you enjoy it.

  129. Happy anniversary Eric .. and best wishes for many more.

Thanks for the inspiration and the hard work to bring this community together. I remember the original few and your encouragement for us all to join in the your vision for City Daily Photo community.

I started my photo blog four months after yours, however it was not part of the CDP community until your talked me into a name change .. close to five years later I have wonderful memories of the experience.

Once, in a TV interview, I expressed my thought that what we in the CDP community are doing is bringing the world closer together in understanding and appreciation of each other.

  140. Like a friend who comes to your home often, I kind of knew my way around the old apartment. I didn't realize how much I use your links to others. Today I'm looking for the door that connects me with Mr. 9:09, or JM the Parisian daily blogger who takes a photo of himself at 9:09 AM everyday. With the remodel, I can't find a link. I hope you will add him back in along with others who were in your old sidebar link list whom many of us discovered through that old door :-). Also, I often click on the City Daily Photo Blog logo to reach the general portal and forums, but the link is not active to click on in current mode. Always a few bugs to chase down with changes. . . It's a big undertaking, remodeling like this.
I love that you bring the world together a little closer one photo at a time. Thanks!

  142. Eric: Congratulations on five years of daily photo blogging and for starting a movement that has gone viral many times over. It's been fun to participate and I now count as some of my good friends many of the folks who are here--Virginia, Kim, the other Parisian Peter, Rob, Bob Crowe, et al. I also met my partner as a result of photo blogging.

Here's to the next five years!

  157. Wow - Eric, you've inspired so many people. The Tenin Perspective is now official in CDP land! It warms my heart to read all the tributes and how you've touched so many people's lives. I think its not only your dedication that deserves kudos, but your wish to create a way to do something truly meaningful for people. That's beautiful.

  163. Eric! The friend that Lori Lynn reconnected with was me!

What everyone's saying is true--you've inspired so many of us to blog, and through that we've met each other, met so many people, learned about our towns. Our worlds have opened up. Thanks for showing us how it's done and inspiring us to do it for ourselves.

USElaine left this comment on my blog today: "Sadly, I can't get a comment to post on Eric's new format. Here's what I wanted to say to him: 'I think no one will ever be able to measure the good you've given to the world through the effects of Paris Daily Photo. It has everything to do with your generous spirit. Thank you.'"

I haven't heard of anyone else having trouble commenting, but I'm sure that'll get ironed out. And I think Elaine's comment is right on.

I posted a photo to honor your theme day a few days ago without really knowing who you are. I have looked through your blog and can see why you are so well thought of. I am linking to you from my blog so from now on I can follow your posts. Happy blogging :-)

  175. Thank you Eric for reminding me of my love for Paris each and every day. Your photos are remarkable (and should be turned into a book). I would comment that the layout of your blog has lost some of the warmth it previously had. The layout is very clean and functional, but the subdued palette feels a bit cold and sterile.

I look forward to 5 more years!
