Eglise Saint Roch
It's been a while since I've shown you a Paris Church... So here is Saint Roch, a beautiful church located at rue Saint Honoré. It was built between 1653 and 1722, it's one of the largest ones in Paris (even though it is hard to tell as it is surrounded with buildings) and it is known for being "the home of the artists" as many of them are buried there. It's also the place where Marquis de Sade got married, I just saw in Wikipedia!).

Lovely church Eric. Stayed next to it in the Relais Saint Honore a couple of years ago, a beautiful little hotel and one of the older hotels in Paris, I am lead to believe

Thank you for this blog. I visited Paris in April and can't stop thinking about it! Love your photos.

What a gorgeous Tenin perspective! I love the blue sky and the clouds. Oh, and the church is beautiful too. :) But the blue sky....Ahhhh.
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful church in France -- I love it.
ReplyDeleteWow, "Marquis de Sade got married," that's news to me. With his bad reputation, one would think that the church would not want to have anything to do with him. Merci for the Wikipedia link. They also said that the Marquis de Sade's wife filed for divorce.
@Lois. Actually it was news to me too, that's why I reported that in the caption ;-) About the divorce, I don't know why, but I kinda understand LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful, thank you so much!! Valorie
ReplyDeleteAdore this church, Eric. And your photo is so stunning. I always visit Saint Roch during my Paris visits. And because of your blog, I discovered the tiny but amazing antique shop nearby.
ReplyDeleteAs always, thank you.
This would be a beautiful church in which to get married—to anyone but the Marquis de Sade!
ReplyDeleteLovely shot of old Saint Roch...the "Artist's Church." This was also the church where the funeral services for Yves Saint Laurent were held, if I remember correctly. Looks like it was a lovely fall day in Paris! Autumn is my favorite time of year to be in the City of Light...wish I were there now!
ReplyDeleteEglise Saint Roch is one of my favourite Parisian churches. I visited several times last year, and walked past many times as we stayed quite near. We also saw a gospel concert there. It was so moving. I still get goosebumps just thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteHello Eric,Love your site
ReplyDeletewe will take a tour of Paris and plan follow the path that Marie Antoinette took from the Consiergerie to the guillotine, is there a map of that path?
Hi Eric, great blog, I too would love a guide from the Consiergerie to Place de la Revolution, can you help.
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Helen Sue
