May 9 is apparently Europe's celebration day and this year we've been hearing a lot more about it than previously. There are many events going on around that date but the most impressive, from what I have seen so far, is this exhibition in front of the Hôtel de ville (town hall) : a collection of stars made by 25 European artists. I LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteSpecially the one from Germany. That World Cup Championship might get Germany looking all cosmo with all the tourists there!! What a great mixture of colors!!
Hey, that's pretty cool! I like "street art" like that, I wish we had more of it here!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute!!! I'm glad they're holding exhibitions now in front of that Hotel De Ville. That seems an excellent use of space!
ReplyDeleteNasty GG: thanks!
That's great! Last time I was in Paris there were demonstrations in front of the Hotel De Ville - this is much more attractive!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I love the Spain star and the French star and the Slovakia star and the Lettonia star oooooh and the Greek star...and the Scotland star kinda speaks to me. Probably because it's the only one witha ginormous mouth.
ReplyDeleteChouette!
ReplyDeleteSo lighthearted and fun! I like this a lot.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea!
ReplyDeleteFabulous photo too- the modern star sculptures look great against the old Parisian architecture.
Oh wow, cool! thanks for sharing this with us.
ReplyDeleteNice shot!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Eurobrat. So interesting photo. Thank you Eric and nasty GG about showing this exhibition.
ReplyDeleteI was there yesterday too and did a guided visit of the Hotel de Ville.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you took your photo when rain had stopped. I had a hard time handling camera and umbrella at the same time.
Great Idea from the inspirators of the European Union!
ReplyDeleteThank you Robert Schuman!
EuroStars could have sponsored this! :-) must be fun to play around and photograph this exhibition.
ReplyDeleteHey Eric, I've heard that this year was the 20th Europe's celebration day, so maybe is this the reason why we hear a little more than previously.
ReplyDeleteBTW, today is the 10th of May and another celebration day : the first edition of the "Journée des mémoires de la traite négrière, de l'esclavage et de leurs abolitions" (sorry I don't know how to put it exactly and comprehensively in English). Not yet as many artistic events as for Europe but at least lots of debates and books issued on the subject.
> Tomate Farcie : I've been thinking of you this morning ! back to yesterday's post, I too was wrong (nasty-and-silly GG !!!) : the bridge you could see in the back grount was not even the Pont de l'Alma but the Pont des Invalides. This time I checked !!!
Cool idea. I hope they will still be there when I come to visit in June.
ReplyDeleteif I have to choose, I'd go with Cyprus' design..so very cool !
ReplyDeleteLooks like toys set down by some giant hand...
ReplyDeleteL
San Francisco a eu une expo de rue analogue avec des coeurs comme support.
ReplyDeleteBelle image de l'Europe...
ReplyDeleteNasty (?) GG: Look for the Zouave ;)
ReplyDeleteIn the Middle-Age (since early of the 12th century), the large space you can see partially on the pic where there the stars are, used to be named "place de grève".
ReplyDeleteThe "grève" means (and meant already at that time) in french a kind of beach made of small stones and sand. It was named "place de grève", because this large space really was this kind of beach, going down to the Seine river which is not far away, and where there was a harbour.
In those old times, people unhappy with their work came on this space/beach to demonstrate.
That is why nowadays, in french, we say "faire la grève" to mean "going on strike".
Eggscelent. I love the Greece and Estonia stars. All those stars remind me of my Lone Star State. —Greetings from San Antonio Daily Photo
ReplyDeletehaxo: cool, thanks! On en apprends tous les jours des trucs sur ce blog! :)
ReplyDeleteThis kind of thing is really fun. I like the Greek star.
ReplyDeleteBonsoir Eric...Any idea as to how long the stars will be shining for? Just curious as our arrival in Paris is approaching...
ReplyDeleteJust a quick reply Kelley: until May 14.
ReplyDeleteHey, Eric! I was in this exact spot on Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteWow!! Merci Eric...they are beautiful and I am so happy that once again, PDP has kept me on the "cutting edge" of what is going on in the city that my spirit calls home and yearns for!! Lucky you!!
